Signed up for a marathon in Maryland which was canceled due to Covid. Was told no refunds, however one part of their website states that if you refer other people to the marathon you'll receive $20 dollars off. So there's misleading information: $20 off but only if you give TCR event management more business. Asking for a refund by itself apparently isn't allowed. Also, my payment was immediately deferred to next year's race without any sort of guarantee that there will even be a race in 2021.

Greetings. This complaint was made against TriCycle and Run, LLC and we are a brick and mortar retail store, specializing in bicycle sales, repairs and parts. We are not affiliated with the event that the complaint was made against.

The complaint was actually made against TCR Event Management, not TriCycle and Run, LLC. That notwithstanding, the same people run both TCR and TriCycle and Run, LLC. To claim they have no involvement with each other is a blatant lie.
TriCycle and Run is a brick and mortar triathlon retailer and is owned primarily by Laura ***. TCR Event Management is owned by Jason *** and is a sole proprietor owned business, separate from. TriCycle and Run. it is not a DBA of TriCycle and Run.
The Salisbury Marathon/RunSBY events is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 2021 and registration will open Nov 1. The party involved received a bib and finisher medal foe the virtual event, and was given access to registration for the 2021 or 2022 event.
The no refund policy was clearly stated and a the party entered in to the race knowing that. Any complaint should be directed to TCR Event Management and we will continue to dispute this.

On 2/25/2020 at 14:53:01 the complainant signed the following waiver, acknowledging that there would be no refunds. "Signing up for any of our events is a commitment to the event, and therefore no refunds will be allowed for the event. Should you not be able to participate in the event, you have the option of a BIB TRANSFER to another person. Once the other person accepts your transfer request they will pay for their registration (with a $10 additional charge) and you will receive a full refund. You may also GIFT your registration to someone and they will only pay a $10 transfer fee. You will NOT receive any monetary refund."
The referal program that the complainant refers to is a program that the registration provider, RunSignUp, offers to runners. This program is akin to an "ambassador" program, typially used in running events, that allows registrants to share the events and are financially compensated for bringing in more registrants.
This race was cancelled, on 3/12/2020, less than one month from the event, when Governor Hogan declared that no gatherings could occur. At that time expenses such as bibs, medals (complainant should have recieved this in the mail), timing chips, contractor deposits, give-a-way items, and various other permit and insurance fees had been incurred. The remainder of the money was placed in a secondary account to be used for the production of the event for the 650 registrants in 2021.
TCR Event Management mailed out all medals to participants (incurring yet another cost) and offered a FREE virtual event, which over 100 participants tooks place in, running their distance and sharing photos of their families presenting them with their medals.
Furthermore, TCR Event Management is allowing, at no cost to the participant, a deferal good for the next TWO YEARS of this event, in case the 2021 date does not work, or if COVID-19 restrictions will not allow it. Should COVID-19 restrictions not allow an event in 2021, the deferral will be pushed to the XXXX-XXXX years.
Registration for the 2021 event will open on November 1, 2020, with the understanding that the event will only occur if the State of Maryland COVID-19 restrictions will allow. The complainant will receive an email at that time, allowing for his free deferral to the event.
The electronically signed refund policy has been attached to this response and we hope that this resolves the issue. Complainant signed the policy, received a physical product (bib and medal) and will receive a registration email for the 2021 event on November 1st.

I'd like to see income and expenditure statements in regards to putting on the race which will indisputably show that a refund is absolutely impossible to do.
We will not provide financial statements to the complainant. The next communication that the complainant will receive is an email with directions on how to claim their spot for the 2021 event (or 2022, should they choose). Registration for the event will begin on November 1, 2020, for the April 3rd, 2021 event. The website, www.RunSBY.com is active and has information on it for the event.
