TC's Auto and Transmission Repair Reviews (1)

To whom concerned: On Aug. 17, 2016 [redacted] and [redacted] had their 1994 Chevy Suburban delivered from ShastaCalifornia to have the transmission repaired. I ask why they had it towed so far to get repaired and wastold every other shop gave them a higher quote. I told them I did not want to work on it...

because I wasallergic to diesel and if it had any other problems I could not work on it besides the transmission issues. They told me it runs great and had no issues, that her brother just did a major upper end engine repair. Itold them that the suburban might have electrical issues due to the amount of rust. The vehicle wasfrom Minnesota and was eaten up extensively and may pose a major problem. They told me they had noproblems that they knew of. Vehicle was un-drivable when delivered, so was unable to check it outbefore repair. I told them that I could not give them an exact quote until I had the transmission tore down tosee what parts was needed. I told client that the labor was $1280 and that would not change. The onlyadditional fees would be the parts. The transmission had signs of being repaired before and had majordamage. Called client told them it would be around $2400. Told me to go ahead and do the repairs. When they picked it up on Sept.2, 2016 I told them that it ran poorly and had some electricalissues. To get it to run right then I could make any adjustments if needed. I told him what ever shop hetook it to, make sure they repair all necessary codes as the engine and transmission have to work inconjunction to each other, because they are all electronically controlled. They took the suburban back toShasta Cal. I don't know where they took the vehicle, but the man called and asked me some questions andI told him what was needed and that was to run correctly and at that point he told me he did not wantto drive it or do any repairs on it, because the engine ran so poorly he thought it might blow up. But hewould do what he could. I received a call on Sept. 6, 2016 that it was repaired and the transmission was not workingright. I called Bulldog towing and had him drive to Shasta, Ca to pick the vehicle up. I told [redacted] and [redacted]that if it was something we done then I would cover the tow. Got vehicle back to shop. The vehicle didnot run any better. Had my son pull the transmission back out and I tore it back down and found that Ihad a seal failure. Note: on the new rebuild kit it has a new design seal to replace old style and it wasn'tsealing properly. Went through the whole transmission again re-checking all seals and clutch tolerances.Everything checked good. Reinstalled transmission in vehicle and called client. Informed them it still hadengine problems and needed to be fixed or it voids all warranty. He refused to sign the document thatstated the requirements, so with two other individuals present I read to him so he knew what wasneeded. He said he still would not sign it. So I told him I was going to sign and date it and have the othertwo individuals sign it witnessing to the fact. He told he did not care and that I did not know what I wastalking about. So [redacted] and [redacted] picked it up on Sept. 9, 2016 and told him to let me know. A couple days laterhe called me and said it started no working right. I asked them about the repairs and they told me therewas nothing wrong with the engine. So I called Bulldog Towing and asked him to go to California andpick the vehicle up again. I told [redacted] and [redacted], if it was our problem I would cover the cost, if not theywould be liable. After receiving truck at my shop, the vehicle still does not running properly. Note: I have asever allergy to diesel fuel caused from being a jet engine mechanic in the United States Air Force atwhich I am 100% disabled. That is why I can't work on the engine. And this is the only reason I cannotwork on the diesel engine. If I get diesel on me I will Die. Just had an attack Last Friday from someoneburning Diesel almost died. But at this point just wanted to help them get it fixed. So I took to a local shop to check it out.and they could not get it to run. So I took my assistant with and had him work on it with my assistancefrom a distance. Jerry's told me they got it to run and transmission to work, but suburban won't start. SoI had my assistant John check with Skip and they together worked on it. Found aftermarket securitysystem wasn't letting the truck start. After removing the security system and bleeding the water off thefuel system we got truck to run. The vehicles computer was not communicating with the transmission.Called owner asked them to get a computer. They said they would and when they sent it, they sent itC.O.D. which they where suppose to pay for. Installed new computer and it would work intermediately, because of all the rust, so we ranaground from the battery, body, engine directly to the computer and it functioned properly. Wechanged electronics in the transmission because old computer fried the electronics that we replaced inthe initial rebuild. I told [redacted], that this was not our fault and I would like to be paid. When they pickedtruck up in early October [redacted] told me he was an honest person and if it worked he would pay the restof his bill. The day [redacted] picked up [redacted]'s truck I told him when they got home to please call me and letme know how it worked. Never got a call one way or the other. Approx. 3 months later I was told that they called, I was out with doctor appointments at theWhite City VA hospital. I got back to the shop and called them and there was no answer. Then a littleover a week later [redacted] called and I asked what was wrong and he stated that the transfer case blew upand broke the transmission and it was my fault and he wanted to take it to another shop for repair. Andthat he would contribute a $1000.00 to the repair for what he owed me. I told him I would have to seethe vehicle first to see if it was my fault. He started screaming at me though the phone and would notstop so yes I did tell him to shut up so he would quite screaming. I told no so would not authorizeanother shop to do the repairs without seeing what caused the problem. The vehicles transfer case was never worked on so if the transfer case failed causing damage tothe transmission that would not be my fault. But I do not know what is currently wrong with the vehicalas they will not let me see the truck. Also why would you volunteer to pay for part of it if it is not yourfault. I have to question this claim. I have towed this truck and paid for all the parts with nocompensation even for the parts and labor that wasn't my fault. Note: cracked ear of case was done buyer [redacted]'s boyfriend, which he told us he crackedwhen he was working on the trucks fuel line. We JB welded it, it was just cracked not broken and a usedtransmission case for this truck is $500.00 which they did not have money to spend on it. Which in turn I have done this same fix for other customers and never had a problem. Yes there is wire dangling fromunder the vehicle all the mounting brackets are rusted off. You really need to ask them to send youpicture of the truck. John from Bulldog towing asked me if I knew they were pulling train cars with this truck. Theproblem with diesel vehicles is a lot of people miss use them and overload the manufactures ratedtowing capacity. The truck has the power but the rest of the vehicle will not take it. The transfer case isall aluminum and will not take extreme weight or abuse. I have had other customers use their diesel inthis way and they have blown up the transfer case which in turns explodes the back of the transmissionor cracks the case from pulling excessive weight, which the truck is not rated for. Most trucks of thatcapacity usually has a tongue weight around 5,000 pounds and towing of 8,000 lbs. John from Bull Dog towing told me if you have any questions you could call him at 541-955-9600Thanks for your time please call me with any questions. Ted C[redacted] Owner
