I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that the response would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.The restoration of the Broken Shifter Cable was $Labor, & $Parts, & $Shipping.This is just touching the surface of what it took to restore this car The "Removed" Water Pump showed the age and condition of the OEM installed pump after 98,miles A replacement pump would not have have the visible corrosion on the installed flange side that this pump had I seriously doubt that the pump was ever changed at the engine overhaul as stated on the original repair order by Schmidt Automotive They have shifted gears on their warranty representation again, saying that the pump was warranted Mo/6,Miles, rather than not warranted I need to call them on this and state again, that the water pump is an internal engine component, driven by the Cam Timing Belt This was certainly a premature failure of a) The NEW Pump that Schmidt said they replaced; or B) failure of the original pump which reinstalled in the car (This should not be the case in either a Timing Belt Change or an Engine Overhaul).I have included the invoice for the Failed Shifter Cable Replacement and a Clutch Replacement that was necessary due to the clutch not performing as designed Neither of these are part of the Overhaul, but I believe the responsibility for these rests in Schmidt Automotive as the car was in for Engine Noise, oil Leak detection, and Oil change The result of this was Car would not shift into Gears 2-4-upon retrieving car I had no confidence in Schmidt Automotive to repair this condition, so I used an independent vendor which is a Volkswagen specialistInvoice and comments are from this vendor FranksTdis VW.I am now disputing the entire job of the recent visit to Schmidt Automotive ($1036) The other part that I was not disputing was replacement of a cam follower I never received the used part from Schmidt Automotive as I requested in writing to them This gives me less confidence that they actually performed the replacement, but just made the charges to me Same condition as I asked for the purchase invoice for the original Water Pump and was denied by them.Furthermore, we found two serious workmanship issues with Schmidt Automotive with regards to their OverhaulFirst Item was the Clutch Pressure Plate made contact with the Engine Oil Pan, yielding gouges and surface overheat condition on the ClutchThe Second was the REUSE of a Torque To Yield Bolt which is a one time use bolt restraining the Harmonic Balancer/Accesory Belt Drive Pulley This is a serious in engine overhauls It could result in catastrophic engine failures resulting from early onset Fatigue failures

not a minor and has placed his trust in his father, Me, *** **, to act on behalf of him in regards to this correction at Schmidt Automotive and fulfillment of the said warranty concerns *** *** was not a minor when he entered in contract to overhaul his engine in November with Schmidt Automotive It is easier for his parents to deal with this seemingly minor concern rather than to burden him with the poor communication and customer service that he has been dealt with by Schmidt representatives

For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I am requesting $reimbursement from Schmidt for the replacement of the Water Pump and the associated Labor I do not wish to affect the public reputation of Schmidt by having this as a public record on the Revdex.com.The refund is for the Water Pump, which was not replaced at engine overhaul (or it would not have failed) The pump that was removed was severely calcified and leaking around the O-Ring This is not evidence of a New Pump Installed on the overhauled engine as reported on the Repair Order Invoice, for which I was charged $for a new pump Upon multiple requests to Schmidt for evidence of their purchase order (documentation) for the new water pump, I was denied their cooperation and they failed to provide me any supporting evidence that they had changed the pump The Pump is a standard replacement item along with any Timing Belt change, as it is buried beneath the engine side cover, inserted into the engine block, and driven by the timing belt Failure to install a new pump and have it fail within two years is a failure to follow their internal Engine Overhaul procedures and should be a workmanship issue covered by the warranty

Non starting, overheating Caravan with over 213k miles was towed to Schmidt's They diagnosed and repaired the vehicle Over miles later, problems have not returned Schmidt's personnel were very competent, professional, cooperative and efficient Knowing that we were out of towners, they facilitated and expedited our repair work We would use them again in a heartbeat
I'm sorry. We only respond to complaints that are received in writing. This is a personal employee email box that only gets checked every two weeks or so. The customer is fully aware and was provided with a warranty disclosure form and was signed by customer in acknowledgement upon repair completion that we cover ONLY internally lubricated components. A water pump is NOT an internal engine component and has a six month/6000 mile warranty which customer again is fully aware of. the warranty on the water pump expired 16,000 miles ago. there will be no refunds of any monies in this matter. Also in closing, the customer held up the engine rebuild because they wanted to purchase parts elsewhere at a lower cost to them. which in fact should have voided all warranties. We cannot warranty items that may cause other issues within our repairs when we don't purchase or manufacture ourselves. thank you for your time.sincerely, Kelly H[redacted]

WARRANTIES ON PARTS AND LABOR. OUR SERVICE MGR [redacted] GAVE HER AN ESTIMATE BY PHONE TO REPLACE BOTH PUMPS ASSUMING THAT WAS ALL THE REPAIRS NEEDED. AND INFORMED MS. [redacted] AT THAT TIME THAT THIS WAS COST TO REPAIR PRIOR TO INSPECTING THE VEHICLE.
UPON INSPECTION OUR TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING AS WELL. DEEMING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND/OR BE INSIDE THE BUILDING. AN ESTIMATE TO MAKE ALL REPAIRS WAS GIVEN AND MS. [redacted] WAS REQUIRED TO PAY A 300.00 DEPOSIT PRIOR TO ANY REPAIRS BEING MADE ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE OVER POOR CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE.
WE DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM MS. [redacted] FOR SEVEN WEEKS REGARDING THE NECCESSARY REPAIRS AND DEPOSIT. WE HAVE NOTICE DISPLAYED ON OUR BUILDING INFORMING ALL CUSTOMERS THAT ANY VEHICLE LEFT ON OUR PROPERTY FOR THREE DAYS AFTER DECLINING A REPAIR OR THREE DAYS AFTER REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED A $15.00 PER DAY STORAGE FEE WILL BE ADDED TO THE TOTAL TICKET. THIS IS STANDARD PRACTICE AS EACH VEHICLE IS AN INSURANCE LIABILITY WHEN NOT UNDER REPAIR BUT LEFT ON THE PREMISES.
MS. [redacted] FINALLY PAID THE REQUIRED $300.00 DEPOSIT ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2014! AGAIN...SEVEN WEEKS LATER AND ALL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED AS PROMISED PRIOR TO OCTOBER 9, 2014. MS. [redacted] HAS BEEN QUITE DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH AND HAS VERBALLY ASSAULTED SEVERAL EMPLOYEES SINCE THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THE BILL STANDS WITH A BALANCE OF $492.00 TO BE PAID IN FULL NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 10, 2014. THEREAFTER STORAGE WILL ADDED TO THE TOTAL TICKET AT A RATE OF $15.00 PER DAY AND MAY RETRO BACK TO THE SEVEN WEEKS THE VEHICLE WAS ABANDONED ON OUR PROPERTY IF MS. [redacted] CONTINUES TO EVADE THE MONIES DUE FOR REPAIRS.

ALTHOUGH I CANT EXPECT YOU TO COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND FROM A MECHANICAL PERSPECTIVE A WATER PUMP IS NOT AN INTERNALLY LUBRICATED PART (WHICH MEANS OIL DRIVEN INSIDE THE ENGINE BLOCK) IT IS BOLTED ON TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE ENGINE BLOCK WHICH WAS THE ORIGINAL CUSTOMER COMPLAINT AND AS STATED ON THE CUSTOMERS WARRANTY...THE WATER PUMP CARRIED A 6 MONTH 6000 MILE WARRANTY( WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST) THIS CUSTOMER WILL NOT BE REFUNDED A DIME OF THE MONIES PAID TO US FOR REPAIRS.
