TD Sales Center Reviews (2)

I scheduled a time to test drive a truck for purchase on Thursday, January 14, 2016. We arrived early and I brought title to vehicle for trade-in and cash for rest of purchase. I drove there from 130 miles away only to find the appointment was not honored and the truck I was going to purchase was moved to the side and had a down payment on it. This is not good business ethics to have for customers who wish to purchase a vehicle from there and have to travel. This was a very bad experience for me and I have been in the auto business for more than forty years at a dealership. I am not going to recommend this business to anyone. I am sorry he could not have scheduled the other person to look at it later in the day!

PURCHASED A VEHICLE WHICH IS UNRELIABLE AND DEALER KNEW IT. Appx. 5 weeks ago, I took my 2003 Ford F150 Pick up truck with MY title to TD sales and met with a sales man named [redacted]. I needed a truck with more pulling power for my horse trailer; he showed me a 2005 Ford F150 with a v8 engine. I told him I was a single lady who had just moved to the area and did not know anyone so I needed something reliable. He told me his trucks were brought in and gone through thoroughly by their mechanic on site. I went ahead with the purchase. The price of the 2005 truck was 12K. I signed a finance contract with a local finance company. My payments are $400.00 per month for 3 yrs. After about 4 1/2 weeks of owning the truck I purchased, it broke down. I called TD sales and talked to [redacted]. He advised me to tow it to the dealer which I did and paid for out of my own pocket. I left the truck with TD sales and rented a car out of my own pocket. At the time of drop off, [redacted] reminded me that my 30 day warranty had expired on the truck and that he hoped it wasn't anything major. The next day [redacted] called me to come get the truck and told me their on site mechanic had replaced 2 fuel injectors. What [redacted] didn't know was that when I had the truck towed to them, the tow truck driver put a tester on the truck's computer and it indicated 2 bad fuel injectors along with a 3rd problem. I asked [redacted] about the 3rd problem and he said there wasn't any. I took the truck and within minutes of my driving away, the check engine light came on. I called [redacted] and he said not to worry about it, it would come on because of a "gunked" up engine. I said Ok. Two days later, I was driving home from work and my truck broke down in the middle of a 4 lane highway. It stalled out. Shaken up, I called TD sales and spoke with another salesman named [redacted]. I was speaking loudly in the phone as I was in the middle of the highway with traffic going by. This salesman asked why I was yelling at him: I explained I was in the middle of the road with a broke down truck, he then got EXTREMELY UGLY AND CALLED ME A [redacted] AND HUNG UP. I NEVER said a cross word to this man- I immediately called back and this time, my salesman [redacted] answered the phone, I explained to him I was broken down. It was CLEAR he did NOT CARE NOR WANT TO HELP ME. I grew frustrated and the two of us argued, he hung up on me. I called a 3rd time and this time the owner answered the phone. He tried to place the blame on me by telling me I had driven the truck too many miles, he said I drove the truck 2800 miles in 5 weeks. I said "Are you KIDDING ME?" I paid 12,000 for this truck and haven't even made my first payment yet.The owner was RUDE, IGNORANT and hung up on me. Not once did one of these 3 men ask me if I was okay, was I in a safe place, nor did they apologize. I had the truck towed to a Ford dealer and am waiting on word as to what is wrong with it. THIS IS THE WORST, RUDEST DEALER I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH IN MY LIFE.Desired SettlementWhen the check engine light came on, I called [redacted] the salesman and told him I was NOT comfortable driving a vehicle with the check engine light, I asked to trade the vehicle for another more reliable vehicle. He told me he would see what he could do, I never heard back.Business Response /[redacted]/The vehicle in question was serviced and inspected according to North Carolina Law. If the vehicle had the problem that it developed 5 weeks and 2700 miles after the purchase when it was sold, it would not have passed NCSI. The problem that did occur we believe was caused by bad gas. We replaced 2 fuel injectors and charged the customer for parts only. ($120) It has not been paid. We informed the customer that a related problem may come up because of the large amount of fuel that mixed with the oil. The fuel injectors didn't allow the gas to flow properly. The catalytic converter most likely got clogged up as a result. The catalytic coverter issue is the point of contention in this case. From a legal standpoint none of this is an issue for the dealership. As a business with a good standing and reputation in the community we always consider helping in some manner with vehicle issues. Each situation is handled on a case by case basis. We contend that if the customer had called and acted like she was talking to a human being we would have helped her .When she did call she didn't even sure she was talking to someone who could help her. The person she was yelling at doesn't work n retail.I [redacted] then received the 2nd phone call. When she told me she was upset, I said I understand. This apparently struck a nerve with her. She said I couldn't possibly understand because it didn't happen to me and Im not a single woman. I told her I was ending the call and she could call back when she calmed down. As far as being concerned for her safety my contention is she told where it broke down. It happen when the sun was still out and it was in a safe area. If she didn't feel safe she should have called for help for the local authorities.Consumer Response /[redacted]/I purchased this vehicle on September 8th and it broke down, would not run on October 14th. That was the first break down issue, I had it towed back to TD Sales on my dime and rented a car on my dime, when I arrived at TD Sales, [redacted] met me outside with the vehicle still on the tow truck, he informed me I was out of warranty and had gone over the miles. Talk about tact, it makes a customer feel real good when they JUST spent $12,500 on a vehicle at your dealership to be told that. The next day I received a call the truck was ready, I picked up the truck and informed [redacted] immediately of a check engine light being on. He told me not to worry about it, that it would work itself out. Never did he nor anyone at this dealership say anything about the catalytic converters going bad. While on my way home from work, less than a week later, the truck broke down for a 3rd time. I was stuck in the middle of a 4 lane highway, I was not happy about that situation and felt vulnerable in the middle of the road. The first time I called the dealer to inform them of what just happened, I guess I must have talked to a NON RETAIL person, according to what [redacted] wrote. This person had NO RETAIL / HUMAN SKILLS, so I question why he was answering the phone to begin with ? This person did ask why I was yelling at him and I tried to explain the situation to him, he then got belligerent to me, cursed at me by calling me a [redacted] and then he hung up. I did call back and get [redacted], he was not friendly, did not want to hear about my problem, not once did he apologize for the other guy, not once did he offer any help, not once did he ask where I was, was I safe? He also never said he understood, as this would not be a reason to strike a nerve with me. Perhaps, if he did say that, the situation would have went a lot better. I called a third time and got the owner who tried to pin the blame on me by saying I had driven the truck 2700 miles. I asked him what my driving the vehicle that distance had to do with anything, I then told him if he sold me a vehicle that was not capable of being driven 2700 miles then he didn't need to be selling such vehicles. Some people do travel for their job and various other reasons. So, after being told by the owner and his 2 employees that they were not going to do anything about the vehicle breaking down, I then had the vehicle towed a 2nd time out of pocket to a repair shop. The mechanic at the repair shop questioned why their mechanic would have sent the vehicle out knowing there was still a problem with it? After all, the check engine light was still on when they gave it to me. My mechanic replaced 2 bad catalytic converters on this vehicle appx. 5 weeks after I bought it. I was also informed by my mechanic that used car dealerships will put an additive in the fuel to get the vehicle to pass inspection and to sell it. My feeling is this dealership knew there was an additional problem ie.. the catalytic converters and sent me on my way with a problem. They now want me to pay for parts, I am NOT GOING TO. They should have had the truck road worthy to begin with and their customer service skills need a lot of help to say the least. Not good people at this dealership at all, they DO NOT stand behind the junk they sell. Final Business Response /[redacted]/This 05 F150 had 136,000 miles at time of purchase. 5 weeks later it had 138,700 miles. the only reason that was mentioned to the customer was to recap the 30 day 1000 mile warranty that was provided with vehicle. it also has a $250 deductible. After replacing the 2 fuel injectors 2 dealership employees did tell the customer that another issue could arise from all the gas that had mixed with the oil because of the injectors. At the time the customer picked up the vehicle this issue had not presented itself yet. As far as how the phone conversations went after that we apologize for any lack of professionalism that was displayed. It is difficult to talk to someone who is screaming and will not listen or calm down.My understanding at this point is the fix for the 2nd repair was less than $400. Now I understand the frustration with this but bad gas is unforeseeable. I do believe that it is reasonable to expect to possibly have to spend $500 on used a vehicle with 136,000 miles on it.
