Although I have not seen a copy of the complaint *** filed, I do know what her concerns were.***’s child began kindergarten this year so she, like many parents needed an “after school” appointment timeWe service children from ages 0-For those that are “school age” 5-18, it represents 80%
of the population we serve.We are open from 7:30-M-FHowever, “after school” appointments are from 4-This creates a crunch for school aged kiddos with only a small time frame to receive our servicesThe number request we get for time slots is after 4PM- even from working parents with a child in daycare/preschoolIn our after school time slots we have specific slots designated solely for evaluations/critical post-surgery patients and are not for traditional ongoing/re-occurring therapy sessionsOver the summer, *** had asked one of our new administrative members about a later appointment with her child starting kindergartenMy new admin placed ***’s child in that evaluation/post-surgery time slot for non-emergency ongoing therapyAnother staff member saw this and asked me if I approved it and I said no, it’s vital we leave these spots for evaluations/critical post-surgery patientsOn 6/*** sent me a text asking me why I would no longer let her child come to our facility once he started schoolI immediately replied that her child is more than welcome to attend our facility but that the time she inadvertently offered was for evaluations/short term rehabilitationHer replay was she needed an appointment later than 4PMHer next text said “please don’t take this away from us”We have not taken away anythingEvery single day we have parents ask for after school time slotsWe don’t hold them, we don’t restrict them based on insurance, they are first come, first serveIt really is a matter of timing when one opens up and another family takes itWe encourage all families wishing for an alternate appointment time to ask each and every time they are in the office or to call as often as they would likeAfter school slots for any business that services children are few and far betweenFor therapy, its especially difficult versus a dentist practiceA dentist we see a child a couple of times per yearFor therapy, its weekly(52+ times per year)If you were to call any pediatric therapy place today and ask for an appointment at 5Pm on the same day every week all year long, you will be told they don’t have it*** emailed me asking me why I don’t remove another child from their therapy slot so she could have which we refusedWe would never do thatShe also said that my staff informed her that more after school slots would be opening up and not to worry that she would get oneKnowing the difficulty parents face finding these highly demanded time slots, my staff would never tell a parent thatMy staff offered *** times in the mornings/early afternoons so that her child would only miss a small portion of school each weekMany parents pull their child out of school 1x per week to attend their therapy, *** declined this option.Throughout the summer she became very combative and verbally abusive with myself and my staff in person and via textThrough all that we continued to see her child and offer her options to continue the care.It is very stressful not being able to offer every parent the exact time slot they wantWe do our best to accommodate all of the families we serve and their scheduling needsI wish we could be open to 9PM and on weekends to serve more school aged children, but finding staff to work those hours is nearly impossible.If you have any more questions regarding ***’s complaint, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
