has auditioned for this dance company to go to Poland in December 2018 she was accepted and was asked to pay a 200 deposit to hold her spot I was given information that they would be fundraising to raise the money for the travel I later found out that there is a 785.00 monthly fee that needed to be paid. I am *** and *** and explained to *** who was the contact person and she contacted me through email that due to late cancel we are unable to refund your deposit. This is very hurtful and unprofessional considering that no one was able to reach her and when sending emails she needs 3-4 sometimes more to get back to a parent and the fact that my daughter don't attend one practice for the simple fact that at that time *** did not have a location where the girls would be going.

Good morning,
As far as the complaint against Team Canada Dance from *** is concerned, we have informed her that she is not entitled to a refund for the following reasons:
1) The $200 deposit is to secure her spot on the team. That amount is then deducted off the travel cost.
2) She accepted her spot on the team. We can only have 24 members per team and others were denied the position that she accepted. When she decided to cancel, it was too late to bring on other dancers to the team. She took the spot away from someone and it could not be filled.
3) Everyone is given a "Financial Obligations" summary upon acceptance. We DO say that we encourage dancers to obtain sponsors and to fundraise to offset the cost of the trip. We DO NOT say EVER that it will be covered by us fundraising for them. We expect payment from everyone to cover the cost of airfare, hotels, etc. How they choose to pay (either by fundraising or by direct payment) is up to them.
4) We explained all the terms to her, yet she still insists that she is entitled to the original $200 deposit. We always return any other money paid, minus the deposit. Unless there is a death or some other mitigating circumstances, the deposit is not returned unless the spot is able to get re-filled.

I hope this matter can be resolved, however, it doesn't sound like the complainant will listen to reason.

The company was communicating with a child not acceptable as the parent is the one responsible for payments. when trying to contact *** via email it would take several emails before she responded. I only found out about the monthly payments in august at that time I explained to her that my 4 children and I have fled an abusive situation and I am mot in a position to make those kind of payments and I was not aware of monthly payments I was under the impression that the fee for the trip was to be raised through findraising. *** told me its too late u accepted the spot and we cannot give your money back and the owner is away she will get back to me when the owner comes but its not likely that I will be refunded.

In response to the parents reply:

The only contact we have is what is filled out on their Audition Form that is filled out and handed in the day of the audition. We indicate that we communicate by email and to make sure they have the correct email. That is why the information was sent to the email provided to us. Was she not aware her daughter came to audition? Was she not aware that her daughter was holding an audition form to fill out the day of auditions?

If she was not aware of the communication, and is indicating that her daughter did not communicate with her regarding the correspondence - how did she know to send in the $200.00 deposit to hold her spot ? As it came from the mother not the dancer.
*** L *** sent the deposit in June. Saying she did not know the information until August is unacceptable.

I will ask *** to send the folder with all the correspondence and dates. *** does not sit on her computer every day so please give her a day or so to respond as she does work a full time job which includes 12 hours shifts, as well as is director of a dance school, wife and mother with 6 teenagers in her household. She will respond - she always does.

I am not satisfied with the complaint decison *** knows that they would take several emails before any reply. They were informed right away that I will not be able to make monthly payments.
