Set up to Fail
The instructors at the Oregon City Clackamas County Community College course were competent in teaching the material. HOWEVER, they set up a few to fail, they assigned two of the female students motorcycles that were too large for them, while giving some of the guys bikes that were too small. The females were tippy toe to touch the ground, and they both ended up falling over during some of the maneuvers early on. They also failed a guy and barley passed the top two riders who obviously did everything better than most. They passed a few guys that hit cones and put their feet down? ? I think they had it out for the two guys because I overheard a comment they thought the one was a bit cocky and the other was a really good rider but he had been riding for 30+ years but never had his endorsement, they said he was rambunctious, and he rode a bit fast, and went around some cones once that were't part of the course. They basically didn't like he took the bike outside of the course for a little practice once, and started yelling at him. Bottom line you can learn, insist on getting a right sized motorcycle at the start if you are small or large, and follow every rule/instruction to the "T". The main guy Ken was ex military and he treated it like boot camp don't talk with him as he may get too much information on you and dislike you...

The Legislature made it mandatory for people to pass an approved rider education course in order to qualify for a motorcycle endorsement This was phased in over a period of years As of January 1, all riders, regardless of age, fall under this requirement. The Basic Rider Training course is set up to progress from very basic skills to more advanced skills in a series of small steps Despite that, not everyone is ready to ride a motorcycle Riding a motorcycle is much more dangerous than driving a car Our classes are a safe place to explore If a student discovers, in a safe environment, that they shouldn't be riding at this time they have received a value far beyond the monetary price of the class. In this particular case, all expectations are clearly set ahead of time I have attached a copy of the acknowledgement that they customer received We clearly set out the schedule and warn that the class is both mentally and physically demanding We clearly state that successful completion is not guaranteed It is clearly stated that completion of all sessions is required The acknowledgement also states that the student is paying for a reserved seat in the course and that refunds will not be issued once the course begins This acknowledgement goes to the student as soon as they register so there is significant advance notice. The acknowledgement also states that we recommend the students use our bikes Training bikes in the Basic class are limited to cc or less We also know that, with brand new riders, a motorcycle is bound to tip over now and then Better to let us suffer that than have the student drop their own motorcycleMost customer bikes are larger In this particular case the student had a bike that fit the requirement but both her and her mother wanted to share the same bike which is not possible The customer complaints of the training bike's operations are not valid Our fleet is well maintained People who have never been on a motorcycle before often have difficulty coordinating the clutch and throttle Some students blame it on the motorcycle but it is really that the student just hasn't reached a comfort level, yet, with this new endeavor. The student also complained about the long riding sessions We take breaks every hour As stated above, we warn ahead of time about the demands In 10,students completed the course with the same riding times. The customer chose on her own not to come back on the second day We were well within our rights to require her to pay for a class again As stated, it is all clearly spelled out ahead of time Despite that, I offered her a class at half price She responded with what could be termed a "flaming arrow answer" ***SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS REDACTED BY Revdex.com***

The 2009 Legislature made it mandatory for people to pass an approved rider education course in order to qualify for a motorcycle endorsement.  This was phased in over a period of 5 years.  As of January 1, 2015 all riders, regardless of age, fall under this requirement. The Basic Rider...

Training course is set up to progress from very basic skills to more advanced skills in a series of small steps.  Despite that, not everyone is ready to ride a motorcycle.  Riding a motorcycle is much more dangerous than driving a car.  Our classes are a safe place to explore.  If a student discovers, in a safe environment, that they shouldn't be riding at this time they have received a value far beyond the monetary price of the class. In this particular case, all expectations are clearly set ahead of time.  I have attached a copy of the acknowledgement that they customer received.  We clearly set out the schedule and warn that the class is both mentally and physically demanding.  We clearly state that successful completion is not guaranteed.  It is clearly stated that completion of all sessions is required.  The acknowledgement also states that the student is paying for a reserved seat in the course and that refunds will not be issued once the course begins.  This acknowledgement goes to the student as soon as they register so there is significant advance notice. The acknowledgement also states that we recommend the students use our bikes.  Training bikes in the Basic class are limited to 250 cc or less.  We also know that, with brand new riders, a motorcycle is bound to tip over now and then.  Better to let us suffer that than have the student drop their own motorcycle. Most customer bikes are larger.  In this particular case the student had a bike that fit the requirement but both her and her mother wanted to share the same bike which is not possible.  The customer complaints of the training bike's operations are not valid.  Our fleet is well maintained.  People who have never been on a motorcycle before often have difficulty coordinating the clutch and throttle.  Some students blame it on the motorcycle but it is really that the student just hasn't reached a comfort level, yet, with this new endeavor. The student also complained about the long riding sessions.  We take breaks every hour.  As stated above, we warn ahead of time about the demands.  In 2014 10,683 students completed the course with the same riding times. The customer chose on her own not to come back on the second day.  We were well within our rights to require her to pay for a class again.  As stated, it is all clearly spelled out ahead of time.  Despite that, I offered her a class at half price.  She responded with what could be termed a "flaming arrow answer".

#[redacted] We had the pleasure of serving Mr. [redacted] in a TEAM OREGON Basic Rider Training course and are very sorry to hear his experience with us was not stellar. As part of our service, we offer students the option to ride one of our motorcycles or scooters. Of course, they are welcome to ride their own personal motorcycle or scooter. Mr. [redacted] chose to ride a TEAM OREGON motorcycle. We take pride in state and condition of our bikes, all of which all held to tight standards informed by 33 years of rider training experience. TEAM OREGON motorcycles/scooters go through a complete annual service inspection in addition to safety checks three times a year. In between those inspections, each site’s program specialist performs weekly checks to ensure proper operation and site readiness for the upcoming course. None of the training bikes used in Mr. [redacted]’ course had maintenance requirements prior to or after the training. With all due respect to Mr. [redacted]’ frustrations, the $25 retest fee is to cover two paid instructors’ time, their travel to a site, the cost to cover scheduling, rental fees associated with parking lot use, motorcycle use, insurance, etc. To call this service a scam is purely shortsighted. We’d be remiss if we did not acknowledge Mr. [redacted]’ course evaluation in which he stated he strongly agreed that the instructors responded to his needs, that the course improved his riding skills, and that he would recommend the training to his friends. Thank you! At TEAM OREGON you’ll find riders who are passionate about helping other riders. We hope we have an opportunity to speak to Mr. [redacted] to convey our care and respect directly and to alleviate his concerns. We can be reached at (800) 545-9944. There really is no further response to add.  In the original response we submitted documentation regarding our refund policy.  This was sent out to the customer well ahead of the class. There were not last minute surprises.  It is clearly stated that once the class starts there is no refund.  This customer occupied a spot in the class.  Refunds are only issued if cancellation occurs three or more days prior to the start of the class.  We do once in a while offer a $50.00 rescheduling fee as a courtesy if the cancellation occurs within the three day window but before the start of a class.  These cancellations occur due to sickness, last minute work duties, etc.  We typically have a waiting list for the classes and are able to fill the resulting vacancy with a paying customer. The reschedule fee is for the administrative time involved. Once this customer occupied a seat there was no chance to fill the spot she vacated after the first day.In this case I offered this customer the chance to take a class at half price.  This was a major exception I made in order to try to help the customer even though her issues were self-induced. The customer refused by saying it was unreasonable and they expected to take the class again at no charge.  Which is also interesting because our class is presented in four hour riding blocks with breaks and I have an email from the customer stating that this was an unreasonable amount of time to be riding.  As a side note, 10,643 customers successfully handled this in 2014. Because of the customer's adamant refusal to consider the half price offer it was withdrawn. There was a statement made about bikes not being in adjustment.  Professional mechanics maintain our motorcycles.  Our safety record is exemplary.  Bear in mind that we train thousands of people who have never been on a motorcycle before.  That was the case with this student.  It would be hard to believe that a person who had no or very little experience on a motorcycle would be considered knowledgeable enough to accurately assess the condition of the motorcycles.  Managing different controls with each of our four appendages at once is a complex skill to learn.  It is not uncommon for students to blame the motorcycle when it's actually a case of them not having mastered the coordination, yet.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: Firstly my mother and I did not intend to ride the same bike at the same time. I will not be held responsible for someone else asking questions that I already knew the answer to. She was intending on me riding our bike and asked the instructor if she could switch to a scooter. She was told no. Secondly, I did not just "choose" not to come to the 2nd day of class, I was completely unable to walk due to my injury which is completely different then just choosing not to attend class. Thirdly, I don't know what a "flaming arrow response" is but I don't hunk I was out of line in any way shape or form by asking why others are offer to retake the class at $50 and I was not.Sincerely,[redacted]
