We installed 4gb of RAM into Mr. ***'s computer. I discussed with him installing 8gb RAM at the time of the upgrade but Mr. [redacted] didn't want to spend the additional money to have that much RAM and stated that 4gb would be plenty.Sincerely, [redacted] ***The Tech Shop

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:What he did to our computer is not what we asked for and at no time did he talk to me concerning RAM or taking things from the computer, never compensating us We were just glad to get the computer back from him and in one pieceWe have taken it to another computer technician that has confirmed that we were taken advantage ofFor the money we paid him we could of bought a newer faster computer. He took the computer and took things out of it without ever discussing it with me or my wifeHe told us that he would make the computer faster than it was, upgrade the processor and what we got were things missing from the computer, a basic processor, keeping our warrantied processor with out compensation and him keeping the computer for over monthsWe were told lies, given poor workmanship and gave the man money for work he never didWe never did get any type of statement telling us what he did, what he replaced or where our money went. I want you to keep this in your recordsI doubt that I can ever get any compensation from him or that he would admit that he was wrongI will not pursue this any further but I want you to know that it is not acceptable what he did and it never will be Sincerely,*** ***

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: I would try to respond to a printed version of his response to my complaint but my printer doesn't workI have all of the checks receipts that I paid Mr***All of them were before we left for AZ They total $but I can't be sure with out getting a statement from the bankHe was the one as*** for money continuallyHe told us that we need him to basically rebuild our computer and he took it with him, we agreed, my wife reluctantlyThen he would call and tell us some story about what it needed and how much it would cost He convinced us that he could install this super fast processor, so we paid him for itNever happenedHe made several attempts to transfer our information back on to our new hard drive and it never worked so he had to try over and over, this could be one of his stories because I saw the same thing in another complaint Eventually sending away for a new hard drive or at least that is what he said as the days went byAt one time I asked him about our processor the quad core He mentioned that on his own he sent it back to the company because he had found that it was still under warrantyI asked him what he was going to do with it and he stated that they are pretty much useless but he maybe able to use it in , something that has to do with computers Yes my step-son had put some kind of pirating software on the machine and had downloaded some music and movies but not repeatedly or by the hundreds My wife talked to her son and he knew it could get us in trouble and after it was wiped clean he would never do it againIt was removed by Mr*** and never put back onHe was suppose to have wiped it cleanHe took months to finally return the computer, in fact when I came back from AZ (months)and picked up the computer it ran so badI could not count on Mr*** to keep any appointments I took it to his house and dropped it offAlmost never to be seen againI contacted Mr*** and he would say that he was working in Corvallis and he would call and I could come over to the Pharmacy where he was working and pick up the machine but he would never callHe would make an appointment to drop off the machine while he was working in Corvallis but he was always a no showHe would explain to me or my wife that something happened to set him back, which may be personal or something with the computer such as the part was wrong, didn't come in or was delayed by the mailFinally I went to his house and got the machine.
He had spoke of dropping the computer off with my step-son when we were in AZ but he never did it was another shamHe took the computer the first time in Late November or early December and we never got it back until April when we returned from AZThen it was returned to him due to workmanship and finally returned to us months later and still it is not the computer we gave him.
He took our money stalled on making things right by months and monthsWhen we received the machine it was missing the fire wire plug in and the HDMI plug inHe had taken out the CD/DVD burner and the CD player and replaced them with a CD playerWhen I told him that we wanted it the same as the way we gave it to himWe had never asked him to removed them and I asked him to put our old ones back that we wanted the player and burner He told us that he didn't have those units any more and would put in a player/burner in place of the other twoHe also told me that the player/burner is cheap but I still offered to pay himHe told me how much and if I remember right I wrote him a check for that and gas to come downThat is all he wanted, I think because he knew he was wrong He did make good on his word, that he would come down and replace itHe did tell us that we don't need the other player it just slows your computer down so we said OK.
He kept our new processorWe never received the super fast processor he told us we would receiveI really don't know what is in our computer box we never got a work order.
His stories are amazinghe told us that he worked for *** *** and had *** *** on the phone while in my presents or he helped build Clamations and was currently working on the set of Grimm in PortlandI have looked at and read many of his other complaints and they all say the same thing.
I just recently had Dell look at why my computer and printer couldn't communicate and they said that there were so many things wrong with my computer that they would have to charge me a bundle just to get it rightI now have a young college student coming out to try and repair what Mr*** has done to my computerA friend that knows a little about computers told me it would be in my best interest just to throw this one out and buy and new DellIt would have been cheaper in the long run.
The thing is it is our word against hisMy wife and I know that he is lying and making up stories, I am not sure he knows if he is lying, telling stories or notHe has had so many complaints of this nature that he probably has gotten all of the stories mixed up.
If at all possible he needs to be held accountable. Sincerely,*** ***

I have responded to Mr. [redacted]'s complaint.  Please see the attached Word document.Sincerely,[redacted]The Tech Shop
In response to complaint #[redacted]

I received a call from Mr. [redacted] asking telling me his computer wasn’t running right and went to his place to look at it and give Mr....

[redacted] an evaluation as to what was wrong with it.  Though is hard drive light was lit up, his computer wasn’t responding.  After examining his system, I noted that he has downloaded so many malware, spyware and tool bars that his system no longer could boot up properly.  I also noted that his computer was a very old Pentium machine.  After cleaning all the malware, spyware & tool bars from his system, I discussed that he needed to upgrade to a new mother board, memory and processor in order to get his system to run faster and better.

He called me a few weeks later and said he wanted to order the new mother board, memory and processor.  I picked up his machine and when I got his machine back to my office, I discovered that his hard drive was again full of malware, spyware and tool bars.  I removed this malicious software, purchased the new parts and installed them in the case his old mother board, memory and processor were in.

When a new mother board and processor are installed in a system, the hard drive has to be reinstalled.  I use a software by MicroSoft called Easy Transfer to move all data off a hard drive before I reinstall it.  When I went to do this on Mr. [redacted] hard drive, I discovered he downloaded a program that allows you to download copy righted material (like movies, music and software) without paying for them.  In other words, it’s a Pirating Software that is illegal.  Mr. [redacted] had downloaded hundreds of illegal movies and software.  I discussed with him not being able to transfer these illegal movies and software and he agreed I should just erase them and go forward with the reinstall.

My next problem came when I tried to hook up his 2 CD ROM drives to the new mother board.  Like the original mother board, memory and processor, these drives were so old that they are not compatible with any of the new technology that is for sale today.  Mr. [redacted] did NOT want to spend any more money on this system so I agreed to add 1 new DVD Burner drive (a $40 value) into his system for FREE!  Mr. [redacted] agreed to this and understood that he’d no longer have 2 CD ROM drives, he’d only have 1 DVD Burner drive.  Because I wasn’t charging him for the drive, he was agreeable to only having 1 DVD burner drive.  I then finished the reload of the machine with a new mother board memory, processor and DVD burner drive and returned the system to him.

A week later Mr. [redacted] called and said his computer is doing it again.  I went back to his house, got on the computer and discovered that he had downloaded the pirating program again and was illegally downloading movies and software again.  I had previously warned him that this pirated versions of music, movies and software come with malware, spyware and tool bars that download too, take over your computer and render it useless.  It’s a risk you take when you download illegal stuff.  I cleaned it off his computer AGAIN and he refused to pay claiming it was my fault this malware, spyware and tool bars installed on his computer.
Couple of weeks go by and Mr. [redacted] is again calling me telling me his computer is “doing it again”.  This time I made him come to my business and when I looked at it, the pirating program was back and Mr. [redacted] was again downloading illegal stuff and infecting his machine with malware, spyware and tool bars.  However, this time the hard drive was giving warnings that it was about to fail.  NOTE: I NEVER REPLACED THE HARD DRIVE AND HE NEVER PAID ME FOR A NEW HARD DRIVE!  Mr. [redacted] was adamant about NOT spending any more money on this system so I researched and found the drive was still on warranty from the manufacturer.  Mr. [redacted] refused to pay for the shipping to return the drive to the manufacturer so in trying to do good customer relations, I paid to have the drive shipped for RMA.
I made it VERY clear to Mr. [redacted] that returning the hard drive for RMA was the last thing I’d do for him because his downloading of illegal movies and software is what is causing him all his problems and I’m not going to continue to fix it for free.  At this point he had paid me for 1 service call to remove the malware/spyware/tool bars (and I’d responded to and removed them on 3 different times on 3 different service calls) and to purchase and install a new mother, memory board and processor.  He told me he was heading to AZ for a few months and we’d square up all the money he owed me when he got back.
While he was in AZ I got the RMA’d hard drive back, installed it into his computer and returned it to his son (who was living in his home here in OR).  When he got back from AZ, he called and said he’d pay me to come over and hook his computer up to his TV so they could watch internet TV.  I showed up at his place and explained to him he needed to purchase a DVI to HDMI cable in order to hook his computer to his TV.  He started in about how he had an HDMI in his machine prior to the upgrade and that the HDMI would work to do this.  I explained that an HDMI was embedded (built-in) into his original mother board and was not removable.
He contacted me again and told me his computer was going very slow.  I looked to the system and found no malicious software that would be slowing the system down.  I started a diagnostics on his system and found out that his ComCast modem needed to be replaced.  Informed him of that and he took care of that; called and said thanks; but again he never paid me.
He next called me and claimed that his new computer wouldn’t run his Dell printer and he’d spent 6 hours on a support call with Dell trying to fix it.  I logged onto his system remotely (with his knowledge and approval) while he was monitoring me from his computer screen at home.  I proceeded to show him how to hook the Dell printer up to the computer and got it working for him.  A few days later he called me and told me the printer had printed a bunch of stuff for him and then stopped so he replaced it with a brand new printer.  I stopped by his house and installed this new printer for him.  Again, I DIDN’T get paid; he had to leave to go pick up his granddaughter before the install was finished.  His wife was there while I finished up but she wouldn’t pay me because she didn’t know anything about what we were doing.
At this point, I refused to do anymore work for him and the next thing I know he’s demanding I replace the 1 CD ROM he agreed to have removed with a brand new DVD burner drive.  I offered him a DVD Burner drive at cost and told him I’d install it for him or I could return the useless CD ROM drive that was removed.  He refused this offer and then started accusing me of begin responsible for all the malicious downloading he kept doing. Next he started demanding ALL of his old parts be returned in a case, in working order (basically he wanted me to build him a computer for free using some of the parts that had been removed from the old computer).
I told him unless he paid me for a computer, he could have the parts as they were (not in a case and not as a working computer) he just had to pick them up from my office.  He then wrote a very nasty review on YELP and at this time I refused to deal with him at all unless that review was removed.
The complaint he has now filed with you is just him trying to black mail me into giving him another computer or money.  When in truth, he owes us money for the RMA shipping, the new DVD burner drive I installed in his computer and about 6 service calls (which I charge $65 per hour for).
I do not want to do business with Mr. [redacted] ever again.  I have gone above and beyond to try to satisfy Mr. [redacted] and no matter what I do he just wants more and he never pays for what I’ve already done.  Add in to the fact that Mr. [redacted] lives in Philomath OR, that means in order for me to go to his home and service his computer I have to travel 60 miles one-way.

We installed 4gb of RAM into Mr. [redacted]'s computer.  I discussed with him installing 8gb RAM at the time of the upgrade but Mr. [redacted] didn't want to spend the additional money to have that much RAM and stated that 4gb would be plenty.Sincerely,[redacted]The Tech Shop
