I am rejecting this response because: 1) I did not agree, sign, consent, allow, want a "new" Hard drive installed. I did not ask for anything other than a simple yes or no that my files could be saved in a format that I could open them and use them. That WAS NOT done. 2) I don't understand what part of the computer system they rebuiltit still has all the same parts on it, the only thing new is the hard drive... and on that hard drive is a "mirrored image" of what was supposed to be the contents of that hard drive. It does not take much to install a new hard drive and since its new, it did not need to be rebuilt. I want my money returned. I am not happy, nor satisfied in any way with what I received. I feel I have been taken for a scam ride. ***

I am rejecting this response because:  This was not true...  I "DID NOT" want to have a new hard drive installed on a very old computer, did not approve for it to be done... because the result would be that I would have 2 old computers...  I explained that in detail.   The only thing I wanted was to have the files in a "readable" format, that I could open up, save and use again... That was NOT DONE..  Plus no where did I sign for a new hard drive to be installed... I did not authorize that, I was told that "IF" they could retrieve the files it would be around the $200 cost, minus my initial fee for diagnostics to be done.  That was not taken out of the receipt...  Additionally... it states very plainly on the receipt that all work is guaranteed for 30 days...  I now have 2 old computers, one that does not work at all and one that works minimally...   for close to $700...  I want him to take the two computers back and return my money.   I am not happy, the work was not done to what I expected, exceeded my cost and went above what I asked for and was quoted...   Not ever was I called to ask, sign or give permission for anything he did... I wanted a simple answer... Yes, I can extract files at this cost or no, I cannot extract files...   that is all I paid for...  and had he been able to give me those files in a readable format, without buying any more software so I could read them...    I am not a happy camper...    I can buy a brand new Dell Computer for $500 ...   and it would be in working condition...  [redacted]

The customer brought in a computer to have the data retrieved. As procedure, we took in the computer for a diagnostic check. Typically diagnostics take between 1-2 business days. After we completed the diagnostic, the customer was contacted and given two separate quotes. The first quote for $268.99...

included a new hard drive and rebuilding the system without the data. This option was to get the computer back up and running without the data. However, the customer informed us that she was interested in the retrieving the data. The two sectors on the hard drive were not repairable and would require a data migration in order to cost effectively retrieve the data. Which led us to quote number two in the amount of $325.98. This quote included a new hard drive, data migration, Hard Drive Removal, and a HD Partition. After the customer decided that quote one was not an option because she was interested in the data, she informed us that she would take a few days to discuss quote two with her husband. On October 24, the customer called back and approved the work in the amount of $325.98. Once we had the approval, we began work by cloning the bad drive. The clone was then mounted on a recovery system and a low-level scan was performed using proprietary software. The scan located 195.13 GBs of data which translated to 419,680 files in 103 folders. Samples of the recovered data were tested and data was found to be intact. This is a 100% recovery. The system was also rebuilt at no additional charge so the customer would have an operable computer. At pickup of the computer, the customer explained that she only wanted the bad HD sectors repaired. It was then explained again that the sectors were not repairable and that the drive needed to be replaced as per the initial repair agreement. The customer returned one week later and requested a refund stating that the files were not accessible. The files, however, are all intact and were retrieved successfully. For this reason a refund would not be issued.
