Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/06/13) */
On April 13th ,2016 a 2004 Mercedez Benz was dropped off at our shop. The customer stated that the key would not come out of the ignition and would like to have the repairs necessary to have that problem solved. So as usual my technician ran a...

full diagnostics test on the vehicle and was able to resolve the problem and removed the key. The customer was notified about the key removal and that a couple other things had come up on the diagnostics test. After speaking with the customer and notifying him about the auxiliary battery he agreed to the repair and we replaced the auxiliary battery. After doing so the technician ran another diagnostics test and noticed that the alternator voltage was not at its normal level, so immediately the customer was notified that morning and again agreed to the repair. We had no clue how old his previous alternator was so when we replaced the alternator the new alternator burned out the main battery because the system was accustomed to a very low voltage for such a long period of time that when an alternator with a normal voltage was put in it burned out the main battery. We went ahead and ordered a new battery at no charge for the customer believing it was the only problem. Unfortunately the previous alternator was so old it burned out the Battery Control Module along with the main battery we were not aware of this until the new battery was placed into the vehicle and another diagnostics was ran. We then informed the customer about the issue but he was very persistent and explained to us that he was not picking up the car until we resolved the electrical problems. Even though the technicians explained to him that the electrical problems were coming from the Battery Control Module that he refused to purchase. We don't understand why he wants a full refund after having the same repairs done at a different shop that we had initially recommended at our shop. We do understand the customer stating, that the key was stuck again after leaving our shop so we are willing to refund the $100.00 payment that was given to remove the key as long as we are provided with a sufferance repair order stating the key had to be removed again. We never intended for this to turn out the way it did, we are always willing to help out our customers as much as we can and we just want this resolved.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/06/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not know where to begin with this. As I stated before I did not have any of these problems before when I brought the car in. In their own admission, when they changed out the alternator that is when the problems started happening with the module. I am being told by multiple technicians improper installation of the alternator is the only way the modules can be burnt they way they were. There were two modules burnt out not one as they mention, the front SAM and the Battery Control module and I have both of them for proof where you can see the burn marks. It is a joke that they will refund the $100 for the initial repair I brought it in for and it still did not work after having the car for over 6 weeks. Also I want to be clear I never refused the repair of the battery control module, [redacted] said he did not want to do the repair. Why should I have to pay for a repair for a problem that was caused by his mechanic? I am very dissatisfied and the response from this business it is a joke and full of lies. I also opened a case with the BAR.
