TekPros has been...

doing business in the Clovis and Fresno area for almost 5 years it does its best to do business ethically and morally. We do not want for an unfavorable experience but we are also aware that life and computers can have a down turn from time to time. It's these times that we do out best to fix not only the computers but to assist in helping the customers situation through purchasing refurbished computers. Make suggestions to brand new computers from other stores or to loan a computer if available.
We are happy to try and make for a favorable experience. After I the manager Warren received this complaint I set out to see if I could locate any part of the computer that was brought in months ago and considered abandoned. I found the bottom plastic that has serial numbers model numbers and also where the cracked bottom is. The hard drive was unreadable. Since TekPros has a POLICY TO NOT disguard hard drives even if broken or problematic or unreadable unless taken apart or destroyed. There is a good chance her hard drive can be located and was marked with her name to insure the hard drive goes back in the computer. Id be happy to take additional time to look for the unreadable hard drive.
TekPros has also a policy that if a computer is left behind for 30days it is considered abandoned and becomes property of TekPros. Because of the situation and referral from a prior and current customer we held onto it for 6 months and we received no phone call or notification that the customer was wanting the unsalvageable hard drive or broken computer. She could have taken it that day or any other day and unsure why it was even left due to the recommendation to not fix it and the customer was given the diagnoses of the hard drive before she left.
TekPros did not use any of the parts for other repair nor did any parts get used to repair another computer. TekPros is still willing to offer the $40.00 originally offered.
This is a very unfortunate event and the complaint is falsified. We have witnesses employees and customers along with most obvious of damage the main bottom plastic being cracked we found in the recycled parts.
We look forward to any response and if any of findings or customers or employees testimony is wanted TekPros can provide them upon request.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (4200, 21, 2016/04/15) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The business never took any of my information. They did not have my permission to "recycle" it nor did I get any money for the recycled parts which I know totaled more than $40. This business is required to follow the laws for all"abandoned property" and that was to contact me. I was asked by this business if I would be willing to sell it to them since they could "fix" it and resell it. I told them I would ask my husband and get back to them. I was then out on bed rest for a threatened miscarriage and contacted them as soon as I could. This business made no attempt to contact me or record any of my information. This was not their property to recycle. I contacted my lawyer and he said this should be escalated to small claims court . The laws in California protect consumers from businesses in situations like this. If the business does not reimburse me the cost of the computer, I will take it to small claims court.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 19, 2016/04/15) */
The letter I received stated that I had until April 14th to respond to this complaint. I disagree with the complaint and the facts that were given were not at all factual.
TekPros did not sell the computer. We informed the customer the computer had been taken apart and recycled due to it being in nonworking condition and that it had been sitting on the shelf for sixs months. TekPros Consdidered it abandoned.
She brought it in and it was cracked at the bottom plastics and we tested the hard drive while she waited. It was not working and she was informed of this. Due to the extensive damage it was not recommended to repair.
The customer at any time could have taken the laptop with her. The damage she stated was due to her husband getting upset with her and breaking the computer.
