Initial Business Response /* (1000, 27, 2016/04/13) */
The customer visited our location with the complaint of a check engine lightDuring the initial diagnostics our technician found that the diesel particulate filter was pluggedUpon further inspection it was determined that the failure had
plugged the filter beyond reuseAt this point the customer was given a quote to replace the diesel particulate filterMr*** approved the quote and the repair for that failure was madeThe technician cleared the codes and no other codes returnedBefore the customer was able to leave the check engine light did come back onThe technician checked the code and this time the code was a fault for a failure complete a successful regenerationAt this point the technician troubleshot this failure and found that the turbo was not functioning within the required parametersThis information was given to the customer and he advised that the turbo had been replacedOur service manager advised that the turbo was no longer under warranty and he would request policy assistanceThe customer declined to do any additional workThe customer was only charged for the diesel particulate filter and the time to trouble shoot and replace it
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 29, 2016/04/14) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I am attaching additional information in regards to my claimWe went to this Cummins Semi Truck repair shop because the light on our dash for the after treatment stayed illuminatedWe explained to the shop we had the same computer program they use for diagnosisI explained the codes and what needed doneThey stated hooked up their computer and found the same codesAfter paying $for repairs we went to get into our truck and it was NOT repaired
THE EXACT SAME CODE WAS STILL PRESENT AND LIGHT STILL ON!
We complained and their response was they would re-diagnose for freeWe were then told MAYBE it was the turbo not our filter after all and wanted another $They could not return the used parts because of a government upgradeWe were NOT going to give them more money for more bad repairs especially when they said maybe that was the problemWe immediately left this facility and returned to the truck stop down the road and started making phone callsWe got in contact with Peterbilt shop in the immediate area and asked about the codeThey recommended the Exhaust pressure sensorWe purchased this sensor from them and installed it myself and while doing so found unsecured wires laying on the hot exhaustAfter installing this sensor and repairing the wires the light went outper recommendation we also purchased all sensors for the particulate systemWe had to wait days to recoup funds to make this purchase in Arizona
This repair shop did unnecessary repairs and did NOT repair the truckThey claimed we needed a new deisel particulate filter because it would not complete the regen procedureThe sensor is what was causing the problem NOT the filterAfter replacing the sensor and repairing wires the issue was solve
Because of this company we had already had to wait daysWe were hauling a loadWe did not get paid for this load, had to pay another truck $to take the load, pay $to transfer the load from our truck to anotherAll total with the loss of load, loss of work and bad repairs we out over $10,
Final Business Response /* (4000, 41, 2016/04/28) */
We understand the frustration that surrounds a failureThe facts are that the component that we replaced was damaged beyond reuseDue to emissions changes on the engine Mr*** had to wait several days to have the diesel particulate filter replacedOnce the filter was replaced we offered to trouble shoot the failure to find the root cause of the problem and Mr*** advised that he did not have time wait anymoreAccording to Mr*** he was able to take the time to have the engine diagnosed after he left our locationThey identified the root cause of the failure that damaged the component we had to replace
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 43, 2016/04/29) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Totally incorrect! You did not check for the root causeWe did not have to take any extra time to find the issueThe code from the insite program was the sameYour company tried to get more money on useless unneeded repairs claiming we now needed a turboThe only thing we did was actually read the codes the computer listedYou did not!
