Tengler Floor Covering Reviews (2)

Revdex.com:
Steve was inconsistent in reporting his time spent at the job. Our feeling is he came up with hours and time spent to get the bill to total original quote. Steve has been paid in full, but we would never recommend him to anyone we know. All we wanted for Steve to do is give a fair assessment of hours spent at job site and not charge us for inconsistent time noted at house before job started and time chasing around to obtain supplies when he had been at the house twice. Someone we who has been in business for 40 years should be better prepared and efficient.
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Review: We needed some work done on our home we were selling. Our realtor recommended Steve with Tangler Construction. We had Steve out to the house and explained the "flashing under the deck" needed to be placed per request of the home buyer. He wasn't sure what the repair should be and left. He was then contacted by our realtor to explain the repair and was sent a copy of the inspection. He phoned me the day of the scheduled repair noting the estimate was going to be $1000.00. We requested he not replace decking boards following removal and just do the flashing. He then quoted an estimate of $595.00. We felt assured that following the repair, he would bill us for the hours spent and materials needed. I drove by the house and hour later and no one was there. I assumed they were finished. He then sent a bill for $595.00. I questioned the hourly rate, time spent at the home doing the repair and supplies purchased. He originally communicated to me he spent $100.00 on supplies, and was at the house from 8am to 1pm. I knew this was not accurate as I had not given him the go ahead on repair until 10:06am and then he said he as there at 9am to 2pm. He did not give me an answer for his whereabouts when I dropped by the house. The bill included every minute he as on the phone with us and the realtors, which the times were inaccurate. Charging us $50.00/hr for his phone calls. He charged us time he spent on Youtube watching a video on how to do repair. He never produced receipt for materials purchased. He has failed to return our phone calls and delayed returning phone calls to our realtor and turned in the Lien Waiver late for our closing. We feel as though Steve falsified invoice to total charges for $595.00. When my husband finally got him to answer phone he hung up on him during the conversation.Desired Settlement: We feel like Steve with Tangler Construction should adjust the bill reflecting accurate hours spent at our home, produce receipt for materials purchased, deliver blade purchased to do job as we apparently purchased the blade to cut decking boards. Show us policy that indicates he is charging for phone calls.

Response:

The story reported by [redacted] is inaccurate. The following is what happened: Mr. contacted me by phone. He told me the home inspector told him that where the deck posts meet the house there needs to be flashing. So I lined up an appointment to see the house to inspect the problem. After inspection, I could see there wasn’t any problem with the deck posts meeting the house. I informed Mr. via voice mail. When Mr. called me back I asked him if he had a copy of the home inspection report. He did not. I told him I would contact the realtor to find a copy of the report. Next, the buyer’s real estate agent told me the inspection report stated that the house needed flashing at the patio door. During my conversation with the agent, he stated that he would forward me a link to a You Tube video that he wanted me to watch because he was unable to explain what the actual problem was and he thought if I’d watch it then I would understand what he wanted done. I got to the job on Friday and after evaluating the job. I noticed that there also another 18ft of ledger board did not have any flashing either. So I contacted [redacted] to advise her that the job is bigger than what was first explained to me by the realtor and the inspection report. I further explained to her that the deck boards would need to be removed along the perimeter of the house. I advised her that we would not be able to save the deck boards since they were nailed to the joists with ring shank spikes instead of screws, thus it was a whole new job that we were looking at doing. I quoted her a bid on the phone at the same time that I was discussing this with her. The bid was $995.00 to do the new job that we were looking at. I told her I would remove the necessary decking, which I would not be able to save because it was nailed down with ring shank spikes (which would not allow the boards to be removed without splitting. because the nails would pull though them). The bid included replacing the decking as necessary with new Cedar decking after we install the flashing on the ledger up against the house. Keep in mind the flashing needed to go behind the siding and the corner trim boards and not to lay on top in order to make the flashing effective. This was not an easy installation. [redacted] then asked how much I would charge to do the job without replacing the deck board since she felt her husband could purchase and install the deck boards to save Tengler Construction, Inc. N. 1569 County Road H Palmyra, WI 53156 (262)391-9012 Phone (262) 495-4060 Fax [email protected] money. So I quoted her a new price of 595.00 to do the job without replacing the decking. [redacted] then gave me the verbal authorization to go ahead and do the job. She said she would talk to her husband about it and contact me if they wanted me to supply and install the new deck boards, otherwise they would do it themselves. One of [redacted]’s complaints was that when she stopped by the house, no one was there. We had to run to the supply house to get more flashing because the job was bigger than anticipated and it also now required a different shape of flashing as well. This is when [redacted] must have stopped by and noticed nobody was there as she claims. None of this is relevant anyway because the job was quoted at a fixed price not a time and materials job. Also, the lien waver was supplied to the realtor in plenty of time for the closing, contradictory to [redacted]’s claim that I was late on getting it over there. After the job was done later that day, I received a voice mail from Mr. saying he had some questions about the job. When I called back that night after celebrating my daughter’s birthday at a restaurant, he was not available, so I talked to [redacted] instead. She began questioning me about why I didn’t save the deck boards and she began to accuse me of overcharging her even though this was our agreed upon price to do her work. [redacted] demanded a breakdown of all the time spent on her job which is unusual for a job quoted as a bid. I tried to appease [redacted] by giving her an itemized bill. Which if added up would come to $700, not $595 as quoted. I wasn’t charging her for the time spent watching You Tube videos, I was merely documenting the time I spent since she requested a breakdown of the hours spent on her job. The work turned out beautiful and was done to code. Some days later Mr. called and began the conversation by screaming at me that my invoice was ridiculous. It was itemized by time spent, only for [redacted] sake. As Mr. got louder and more belligerent on the phone, I hung up on him. He then called back and left a voice mail threatening me that he’s going to contact the Revdex.com and any other form of social media that he can think of to do his best to destroy my business. It is my belief that that even if I had given Mr. a discount it wouldn’t have satisfied his rage. I have been in business for over 40 years and have never come across customers like them with such anger and vindictiveness. I did everything correctly, pulled no surprises. I completed the job as quoted so I needed to be paid for the job. [redacted]
