Tenn's Enchanted Lake Auto Center Reviews (1)

Dear Sir/Madam,Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to Mr. [redacted]’ complaint. As he stated, he has been a customer of ours for a few years and have completed several repairs and maintenance on his [redacted].In June of 2015, he brought in his vehicle for us to check an...

intermittent problem with the left auxiliary fuel tank. After our inspection, we could not duplicate the problem with the fuel tank but completed other work at the time. Two months later, he returned in early August to replace a steering column that he had purchased elsewhere. At the time, he did not convey to us that he was having a problem with the auxiliary fuel tank.In late September, Mr. [redacted] dropped off his truck for us to re-inspect and diagnose the left auxiliary fuel tank. Engine would not run on this left side tank. After our inspection, we gave him a list of parts that would be necessary to install FIRST with further inspection once the fuel tanks were removed.  Mr. [redacted] purchased (on his own) a fuel sending unit, selector valve and switch. Once the tanks were removed it was recommended to replace both the left and right Fuel Pumps because of water contamination and deterioration of which he agreed upon. This was a very labor intensive repair since all bolts were rusted and hard to remove as most were more than likely original parts. After repairs were completed we test drove the vehicle and was operating normally on both fuel tanks. Mr. [redacted] picked up his vehicle on September 25th and drove away and returned back shortly claiming that the engine died out after switching to the left side fuel tank. He decided to take the vehicle home and run it on the right side tank until he could reschedule to bring it back.  At [redacted] time, I mentioned to Mr. [redacted] that I was curious to know how the passenger side fender had been damaged behind the bumper (there was obviously a new front bumper).  He became very irate and that the scratch wasn’t there and that we would be responsible. I mentioned to him that the scratch was there when his son dropped off the vehicle in the morning, and then accused me of trying to place blame on his son, which was certainly not my intention. He told me at that point he was going to “take me to court” and take his business elsewhere. After receiving correspondence from Mr. [redacted] shortly thereafter, I called him personally to assure him that we stand behind our work and if there were any defective parts, that it would be covered under our Napa Auto Care nationwide 24k/24 month warranty at no charge.  He agreed and scheduled an appointment a few days later. On October 5th, he returned to our shop and it was determined that a defective fuel pump (on the left tank) was evident and we replaced it under warranty at no charge. Upon test driving, we noticed that the front brakes were not working at all. We asked if he wanted us to then diagnose this additional problem for a fee which he agreed. We found that the proportional/combination valve was inoperable and needed to be replaced.  He ordered his own part and dropped it off at the shop and the repair was performed and brakes were operating normally. When Mr. [redacted] came to pick up the vehicle, I mentioned to him that the carburetor was running rich and flooding with fuel.  I recommended additional evaluation, however, we were leaving out of town for an automotive convention and would not be able to accommodate him for a week.  After leaving our shop, he drove to Honolulu and unfortunately the vehicle died out again. We immediately sent out our tow truck to retrieve the vehicle but because we were going to be closed, he had the driver tow the truck back to his residence. He mentioned to the driver that he would be taking the truck to another repair shop since we would be closed for that week. We then received a letter of complaint from the Revdex.com.  He mentioned in his letter “they claimed no responsibility” which is untrue.  As a gesture of good faith and at our expense, we had the body scratch behind the passenger side bumper repaired even though the body shop assured us that it would have been impossible for us to be at fault.  The issue with the engine running rich and the carburetor flooding had no relation with the previous repairs performed.  We can understand his frustration and concern, but when repairing a vehicle of this age, it is possible other complications would arise. These problems could occur anywhere and at any time it just was a coincidence that it happened at our shop.  Any vehicle of that age, would eventually require replacement of parts as they fail as evident with Mr. [redacted] repair history.  We tried to work out the situation amicably, but he chose to take the vehicle elsewhere and now expects us to pick up the tab for repairs done at another repair shop.  This is not reasonable and fair, therefore, we decline any reimbursement to Mr. [redacted].  If this issue goes to arbitration or small claims court, we would be available to discuss in detail. Sincerely,Todd *.
