I was given an antibiotic and Tylenol #3 for a tooth abscess. After many calls c/o extreme pain I was given a new antibiotic but nothing for pain.

I called the office on 1/27/13 after hours complaining of extreme pain in the right side of my mouth. The office called me 1/28/13 and told me I needed a cleaning and then they would see me for an exam. I went to the office on E.Stockton Blvd at 2:00pm for my cleaning. I paid $85.50 cash as I have no insurance. I then went to my appointment at the Laguna Main St. office for x-rays and an exam. I was scheduled for one and a partial, root canals for 2/12/13. I was given a prescription for Amoxicillin and Tylenol with codeine for the pain. I paid $280.00 which included an $85.50 charge for a missed appointment back in August of 2012. The next morning I called the office and told them my pain was worse and my face was swelling. The person who answered informed me the antibiotic would not be in my system for 24 hours and I just needed to wait it out and to try taking an Extra Strength Tylenol along with the pain medication. I told her I already had been and she said I just had to wait for the antibiotic to work. I called at 5:00pm that evening and told the office the pain was extreme and was told the first person had told me wrong and that it actually would take 48 hours for the antibiotic to kick in. The next morning I called and told them my face was twice as swollen and I couldn't take the pain. They talked to the dentist and called and left me a voice mail stating they would be calling the pharmacy and prescribing a new antibiotic, but that the dentist said the Tylenol with codiene should be sufficient for my pain. I was in class, in tears, with my classmates trying to figure out how I might be able to get something to eliminate my pain. It was suggested I go to Urgent Care. I picked up my new antibiotic, Clindamycin from the pharmacy and then went to Urgent Care where I paid $105.00 cash to see the doctor there. He saw me and couldn't believe I had been left with this much pain for such a long time. He prescribed me fifteen Norco and a prescription for Penicillin. He told me to start with one pill and if that was not enough to take another. I had to take two before I had any pain relief. I then called my dentist's office and left a message telling her I wanted to cancel my root canal appointment, that it was way too far away and that I did not appreciate her leaving me with extreme pain when I was under her care. On 1/30/13 I went to Western Dental where I was examined by another dentist. He confirmed the need for root canals, but instructed me to wait until the abscess had cleared and then make an appointment. He told me to continue taking the Clindamycin and Norco. I told him I had about eight left and was afraid I would be left with pain over the weekend. He told me if I needed a refill to call. I never did need a refill as the pain has subsided. The next day, 1/31/13 my dentist called my voice mail, leaving a very harsh, mean, and angry message stating she had called in a prescription for Vicodin along with the Clindamycin and that if the pharmacy didn't fill it there must have been a reason that she was not responsible for. I called her office and told the person answering that I never was given anything besides the Clindamycin and that they had even told me they would not be giving me anything else for pain because the Tylenol with codiene were supposed to be sufficient. I then called the pharmacy and spoke with the pharmacist. He checked and found there was never any Vicodin called in for me. I called my dentist back and was told the pharmacy must have cut off their voice mail. I told them this was absurd. I then went by the pharmacy to confirm the prescription had never been called in, which the pharmacy did confirm. The dentist is lying about treating my pain. She did not treat my pain even after I was in contact with them twice a day. They are now lying to me about what they called in to the pharmacy to cover themselves. I have proof from Urgent Care, Western Dental and the pharmacy.
