Final Consumer Response /* (2000, 12, 2016/07/08) */
The Handy Hammer resolved the problems with my door installation to my satisfaction on 7/5/16. This complaint can be cancelled.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2017/11/08) */

When [redacted] originally came in on 4-21-17 we could not find anything wrong with the traction light so we informed her that we would reset the light and not charge her anything for it. That is also clearly stated on the receipt. She also...

needed front brake pads and rotors which she had us put on. There were also diagnostic trouble codes for an service engine light which were an engine misfire which we corrected by putting in 1 new spark plug and 1 new ignition coil in cylinder #4. Also when we checked her oil it was so low that it would not even read on the oil dipstick. We filled it with oil at that time. There was so much oil underneath the vehicle that we were unable to determine the exact leak at that time, We cleaned the underside of the vehicle at no charge and Informed her we would check it out the next time she is in now that everything is clean so we could find the exact leak. When she returned a week later we were able to find the oil leak coming from the oil pressure switch at which time she had us replace the switch. When she brought the vehicle in it also had another service engine light. We diagnosed it as a spark plug and ignition coil but this time it was on cylinder #3. She had us perform those repairs at that time. The computer diagnostic should have been another $65400 however we did not charge her for that. We have a 90 day warranty on labor and it is clearly stated on all of our receipts. [redacted] is aware of that as she did sign both invoices which clearly state our warranty. [redacted] then brought the car back October 20th saying she had an oil leak. We were unable to get her vehicle in the shop at that
• time due to the fact we had several other customers already waiting for their vehicles to be repaired and our schedule was full for the day. She asked if I could at least check her oil for her in which case I did and it was low. She asked me to fill It up so we added 2 quarts. All we charged her was $10.00 for the oil. The service engine light was on at that time but we did not put it on the computer or do anything with it. [redacted] brought the vehicle back in on October 25. The service engine light was still on so she asked if we could check her oil leak and perform the computer diagnostic. The oil leak was from the oil pressure switch that we installed 6 months earlier. Even though she was clearly out of warranty we installed a new switch at no charge for parts or labor. We also performed the computer diagnostic at no charge again even though it should have been $65.00. When we scanned the computer there were 3 trouble codes in the system. [redacted] watched as I scanned the computer and I showed her that there were codes in the system that can definitely affect the way the vehicle will run. At that time she wanted me to perform additional repairs for which we had nothing to

do with at no charge which we declined to do. We have done everything we could within reason to satisfy this customer. She is well out of her warranty for all repairs we have performed so I do not see how she can expect us to continue to work on her car at no charge. The current codes in the computer are not all even related to what we have repaired in the past. She called Terry Sr the next day to tell him she wanted everything fixed for free. Terry Sr informed [redacted] of the same response I had already told [redacted] that we had nothing to do with her current problems and that all we had done the day prior was put the oil switch in and in the past it was a couple spark plugs, ignition coils and a front brake job. At that time [redacted] told Terry Sr that her brakes are still squeaking even though she had never mentioned brake problems since we had done the brake Job. There is no way to satisfy this customer. We have went above and beyond for [redacted]. We have been in business serving the area for over 40 years. We do not even advertise. Everything we do relies on our customers advertising by word of mouth. We feel that is the best way to conduct a business. We do honest work at a fair price and try everything to satisfy our customers and that is how we have been in business for so long. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2017/11/09) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
He is correct that he did not charge me for the traction light because he couldn't find anything wrong with it so he reset it on his own but I came in because of the SES and traction light coming on and the leak. I was told by his son to keep an eye on my oil stick and keep oil in the car. On that visit I paid out $487.41 and still my car ses light continued to come on interminently. I came back because I was still leaking oil and the light continued to come on and was charged $$280.34 to fix the leak, but it continued and his son was told this when I came in in July to get my oil changed. He informed me to keep an eye on it. I went to Indianapolis the next day after the oil change and the SES light came on again but went off after some days. When the SES light came back on and stayed on and then the traction light came on that Friday October 20 I drove to Terry's while the lights were on. When I took my car in on Wednesday both lights were not on and my car was not jerking when shifting gears or driving until after repairs were made and car was returned to me. His son put the machine on the car after I question him about both lights being on.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2017/11/14) */
As stated in our previous response, we have went above and beyond in an attempt to satisfy the customer. She was clearly out of warranty on her last repair but we chose to do the work at no cost in an attempt to satisfy her. There are numerous things that can cause a check engine light to come on. I tried to explain that to [redacted] and just because the light came back on it does not mean that it was related to the original problem. This customer is out of warranty and we are not going to do any more work for this customer.
