Put simply, the owner is miserable to deal with. He doesn't seem to have a great deal of respect for women either.

My wife and I tried to rectify a mistake made by a [redacted] mechanic with the owner ([redacted]). Upon visiting the shop to do this, [redacted] lacked the decency, courtesy and/or professionalism to shake my wife's hand, look her in the eye during our conversation, or simply say "hello" to her upon our arrival. Oddly enough, he had no difficulty shaking my hand or looking me in the eye.

I had previously interacted with [redacted] while picking up a vehicle before, not knowing that he was actually the owner of Terry's Car Care. During that visit (earlier this summer), [redacted] took the liberty of sharing a joke that began with: "We like to say if it has [redacted] or tires..." (You should call him and ask for the rest of the joke, because I stopped listening.)

Long story short (and it would be a very long story), we are done with [redacted] was unable to do the right thing and pay for the damages caused by the erroneous repair performed by one of his employees. Aside from the misogynistic behavior, he is quite possibly the most rude and manipulative human being I have dealt with in any walk of customer service.

Terry's actually charges more than each of the two dealerships we have since had services performed at (timing belts, alignments and oil changes). You're not getting any sort of deal having your repairs done here.

Go elsewhere!

Had my car towed in after it wouldn't start in downtown Madison. After looking it over they came to the conclusion that it wasn't something simple and that it required $2200 in repairs. I need my car for work so I agreed to have them go forward with the repair and they were good about getting me a loaner car. 2 Days later I received a phone call telling me that the repair was done but the car was still not starting. I was given 3 options...pay them the 2200 and get the car towed elsewhere, authorize them to take the engine apart and allow for up to $5000 in repairs, or sign the title of my car over to them and just call it even. All three sounded terrible as I still didnt have a working car. In the end we went in and complained, they negociated down to $1679, he did offer to make it right and said that if I authorized $4000 he would get the car working, or eat the difference. In the end I had my car towed away to a different mechanic. 5 hours after it being at the new mechanic I was informed that there was no compression in my engine and that there was obvious signs of valve damage. Then siting that it was odd that they would of gone ahead with the $2200 repair because to do that and not fix the valves was worthless. The repair would be in excess of $4000 and about $1000 more than just getting a used engine...in the end this will cost me $5000. $1679 of it gone to Terry's car care for them to put parts on a busted engine. Had they done what they were supposed to I could just have worked and gotten a used engine right away totaling at about $3300. They seem like decent people but this was either negligence or a scam to suck more money. Offering to have me sign my car over (blue booked at $8000) felt like extortion.

My 19 year old son and his girl friend were stranded in Madison after my son ran into a curb and his car started leaking a fluid. [ They live in Dubuque IA. The closest car repair station was Terry's Car Care 332 W. Johnson St. This happened on a Saturday night on Dec, 14 of 2015. My husband drove to Madison to pick the kids up and on Monday morning my son drove back to Terry's Car Care to discuss the car getting repaired. My son was quoted a price of $1500.00. My husband talked to a mechanic here in Dubuque and was quoted a price of 500.00. We just wanted to get the car and have it towed back home but Terry wouldn't let my son have his keys back until he paid $150.00. We only have the one key for the car which we bought used so we paid "the ransom". We had to pay $388.24 to have the car towed but the repair was less than $480.00.

My daughter had her vehicle towed on a flat bed to Terry's. The vehicle had stopped running, and we feared the engine had seized. Terry's charged me $90 and told me the engine had seized. I went to Terry's to determine if we should fix it or not. [redacted] (mechanic) indicated it would be $4000 for a new engine. I called several other local shops their estimates (free) were $3200 to $3500, but thought I would just let them fix it rather than tow it again. I live in Green Bay, so the extra cost would be worth having him fix it.
When I arrived to discuss repairing the car, I noticed Terry's had left the lower passenger side shroud disconnected and hanging on the ground. When they pushed the car out, it damaged the shroud so badly that it would need to be replaced - $125. I also noticed they pushed in the grille and damaged the fog light assembly and front bumper. Total damage was in excess of $750.
Of course they denied doing the damage. With this extra damage I decided to scrap the car out.
