on August 2 2014 after setting the logistics of the repair, (front tire replacement) up with Tesla Motor Sports ([redacted]) confirmed that said 2014 [redacted] Ninja 1000 would not be lifted by the underside of the bike (exhaust or oil pan) This was the start of it all. When I brought it in Saturday morning, the bike was wisked away and the shop door closed without any discussion about the procedure. [redacted] assured me that my bike would be lifted properly and now the bike pulls to the right. The exhaust is off center and should never have been used to support the 506 lbs. of the bike. So after the shop doors closed I went inside the showroom/store and peeked through a window at the north west corner of the showroom/store which looked into the shop. It was then that I witnessed the motorcycle sitting on the exhaust. All 506 lbs of it. This is not a proper way to lift a motorcycle and shows a direct negligence and poor customer service on the part of the shop mechanics, one of which is the owner. I immediately headed for the shop where I was bombarded with loud and condescending verbal orders to get out of the shop "SIR YOU CANT BE IN HERE" Never was a low tone used and never was it polite. I was told this is how they treat all bikes of this nature. (sport bikes), which is quite impossible giving the fact that most sport bikes have full fairings which would crack and damage the fiberglass or plastic under several pounds of pressure. Again this is not a factory advised method of lifting a bike. It is a shortcut that puts undue side load on the exhaust manifold bolts, and nearby welds, and all mounting points of the exhaust, most of which is made of soft aluminum. At this point in the name of preventing a serious altercation, I exited the shop and let them finish. Upon completion of the tire replacement, I inspected the bike and found the front rim had a 2-3 inch pressure scratch on the outside contour of the rim where the wheel machine would clamp to remove and replace the tire. The torque spec. is 79.7 ft/lbs for the front wheel torque and I checked it at home after and found it at 95 ft/lbs. The front brake caliper bolts spec is 25 ft/lbs and I found them at 32 ft/lbs and the front fork pinch bolts spec is 15, and I found them at 14 and 15 so...Business Response August 19, 2014To [redacted], Revdex.com Trade Practices:In response to your recent complaint notification, we submit the following:A customer came to Testa on Saturday, August 2, 2014, requesting a tire change for his2014 [redacted] Ninja 1000. [redacted], owner, performed the tire change as requestedincluding balancing the tire. [redacted] showed the customer torque specs on the axle, pinch bolts and brake caliper bolts. The customer then accepted the work completedand left the shop with his bike. Within 90 minutes of leaving Testa, the customercalled complaining that his motorcycle was now pulling to the right. Testa advisedthe customer to return to Testa so technician [redacted] can speak with himabout the problem.Upon returning to Testa, [redacted] put the bike back on the lift, loosened the axle,and pinch bolts then pressed down on the forks 5 times to center the axle per customer's request. [redacted] then retorqued the pinch bolts and the front axle per [redacted] torque specs. The customer then requested that the technician test ride the motorcycle tosee how it handled. [redacted] completed the test ride advising the customer themotorcycle was normal, then suggested the customer do his own test ride so he couldfeel how it handled. The customer did the test ride and informed [redacted] he wasstill feeling the pull to the right, but was satisfied that [redacted] and done his job correctly.Then he stated the problem could be with the rear tire. At this time the customer requested pricing on a replacement rear tire. Prior to loading the bike on the lift for a second time,the customer stated that Testa was responsible for a scratch on the center of the frontwheel. Testa stated to customer that their tire machine and balancer can not physicallycause a scratch in the location described by the customer. Customer then stated that Testa was responsible for a scratch to the inside passenger foot pegs with lift tie downstraps,(which are rubber coated). Testa noted the scratch on the wheel was made from stock OEM wheel weights that clamped/clipped on.This customer was not inclined to accept any explanations from Testa personnel. Inaddition, the customer advised Testa of his history of suing businesses that could notsatisfy his complaints. He seemed to be quite pleased with this statement, even stating the suit was dropped. In an effort to please this customer, Testa put aside their own rules and invited the customer in to the shop to view the work being performed. Wow I can't believe these guys are in business. First off I wasn't there when the wheel was scratched, but have had two shops look at it and the two possibilities are one, the wheel clamp machine was used incorrectly and two, during the removal of the brake caliper, the caliper made contact with the wheel. It is impossible for the factory wheel weights to be responsible for the scratch, due to the fact that they are mounted to the center bead of the rim not the outer bead where the scratch is located. So there you have it. Have this shop work on your bike at your own risk. You get what you pay for.Final Business Response Testa has no idea what condition the tools used by the consumer currently are or if they've calibrated. Testa uses [redacted] specs, and the [redacted] Electronic Techwrench, Fixed Head Ratchet, 5-100 ft lbs, 3/8" Drive, Model TECH 2R100, calibrated weekly.In addition, Testa requests the consumer identify the "two shops" whose opinion was used by this consumer. Testa would like a chance to verify their qualifications/expertise to give an opinion on this matter.In regard to the damage specified in the Complaint, Testa would like to acknowledge their tire machine, a [redacted] Tire Changer Air/Electric Model EEWH310A, is rubber coated, and holds the tire rim from the outside, therefore, making it impossible for the machine to scratch the inner parts of the rim.
