Lackadaisical approach to paperwork
My son went to the Texas MedClinic at the request of his employer due to a muscle strain. He was given several days to rest and had to go back to the clinic to verify that he was fit to return to duty. The PA who saw him incorrectly filled out the form, so when my son returned to work with the form, he was sent home yet again until the form was corrected. The PA told my son he was fit to return to work without restrictions, but on the form he circled "restrictions". Now, we are not unreasonable people and know that sometimes mistakes happen. But the clinic refused to fix this in a timely manner, so my son missed yet more work (i.e., more pay). We are at the whim of waiting for this particular PA to return to work to correct the form. I think a bit more diligence and care should be taken when one is dealing with medical records, especially when it affects the ability of the patient to return to making a living. I bet they wont make a mistake in ensuring he gets billed on time.

Billing Complaint
I received a bill from Texas Med Clinic that did not correspond to my EOB. I contacted them only to be told that rather than the $10.80 shown on the bill I owed $54. After contacting my provider, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), the representative verified that an incorrect billing code was used for a flu shot. BCBS called the number on the statement (210) 349-5592 and concurrently we spoke with Joe I. who claimed to be a supervisor. Joe was rude, condescending and unbearable to work with. He said he would not change the code but would put in for an appeal to BCBS. The BCBS rep read in the contract what the code should be and asked if he could correct.it. He said "No", it could only be appealed. I asked if he had access to the contract and again he said "No". This is the worst customer service I have encountered in years. Joe I. has no business being in a customer service position and we will take our business elsewhere.

My daughter went to this clinic a few weeks ago and prior to receiving service, she asked if they accepted our insurance She gave the medical insurance card to the person at the desk and was told, yes they accepted the medical insurance However, when I received the bill, the clinic did not submit the service to the insurance so I called the clinic billing service and they told me they do NOT accept the insurance Luckily, the amount due was not excessive and we are able to pay Imagine if the amount was in the high hundreds or even thousands! What recourse would I have? How can this clinic get away with this type of behavior? It is unethical

Re: 10165595

Thank you for notifying us of this complaint and giving us the opportunity to respond. We assert that Texas MedClinic did not engage in deceptive selling practices, and that this patient was given all the information required to make an informed consent prior to the start of the examination.
First, allow me to explain that immigration physicals are regulated examinations with requirements set forth by the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. All requirements (to include blood testing and immunizations) must be completed and documented appropriately before the physical can be released from the medical provider and submitted to the Department of Homeland Security for processing. If all portions are not completed or not completed accurately, the person applying for citizenship will be denied and made to repeat the entire physical again. We know this and strive to ensure all requirements are met before the paperwork is released from the clinic.
Second, there are relatively few authorized physicians in the state of Texas who can perform these services. Texas MedClinic has twenty five doctors that have been trained, instructed and certified by the state to perform these examinations. This is the reason the complainant's primary care physician was unable to conduct the physical at his office.
When a patient comes to one of our clinics and requests an immigration physical, we notify them at the front desk that insurance does not cover the cost of these physicals. We tell them the base amount they will be required to pay for the physical and we inform them of the possibility that the cost will be higher based upon blood work, immunizations or other components that could be required for that particular patient's examination. Lastly, we notify them that they will be required to pay in full before the paperwork is released to them. We provide these patients with a pricing list that catalogs the cost of all additional services that could be required for the examination. Most patients have researched this information on the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website prior to their visit, so they understand they may be required to have blood work or immunizations, but as any patient has questions, we do our best to answer them as honestly and thoroughly as possible before the patient starts the examination process.
If a patient has not brought the official examination paperwork with them, we provide it so they can fill out the health history information required for the examination. Once the paperwork is complete, the patient is brought to a screening room where vitals are obtained and the patient again could be offered the price list for the additional components of an immigration physical. This is a private room and one-on-one conversation where the patient is given the opportunity to ask any questions they may have.

In specific response to this complaint, the patient came to the clinic alone, without understanding what he needed. It was only when the patient was brought back for screening that the medical assistant understood the patient was actually in the clinic for an immigration physical. At that point, the medical assistant explained what would have been explained at the front desk and brought the patient all the paperwork for him to complete, including the price list for additional services. The medical assistant was monitoring the patient while he filled out his paperwork to ensure any question he asked would be answered. This patient acknowledged to the medical assistant that he understood what he had been told and we proceeded with the examination.
The patient did not raise any questions nor did he give the physician the idea that he would prefer to get the immunizations somewhere other than Texas MedClinic when the physician was evaluating the patient. It was not until the patient was being checked out and asked to pay for the services rendered that he mentioned this was more expensive than he had planned.
After that, the patient's wife called the clinic and accused the staff of taking advantage of an immigrant who did not understand what was happening to him. We tried to explain that the patient was given all the information he needed to make an informed decision, and that he did not ask any questions or give us any indication that he did not understand. He actually confirmed to the medical assistant in the screening room that he did understand and would proceed with the examination.
In conclusion, we regret that this patient and his wife do not feel he received acceptable customer service, but we strongly deny the allegation that we engaged in deceptive selling practices.

I am rejecting this response because:I spoke to Ingrid regarding this past due amount and asked her to confirm the address that she supposedly sent notification to. the address she gave me was an address that we haven't lived at for 3 years. she said this was the info we gave at the time of treatment. which I disagreed with and asked her for proof with my signature and date at the time of service. she could not provide this information. at Texas Med Clinic, they require patients to pay their co-pay upfront before being seeing. we gave them our credit card along with my Texas drivers license and my current insurance card which clearly had my current address printed on all of them. after providing all their information they requested we were called to see the doctor. I was only made aware that there was an outstanding balance when I was contacted by my credit bureau that there was a collection placed on my credit. I expressed to Ingrid I would be happy to pay the outstanding balance that I had no knowledge of considering I followed all the instructions I was given at the Texas med clinic. she then forwarded my call to a young lady named Carmen at extension [redacted]. I expressed to Carmen that I would be happy to pay the outstanding amount immediately upon receiving some type of letter or e-mail stating that this erroneous info would be deleted from my credit. She agreed to do so, however I have not received an e-mail or letter to date. I would not be happy with the outcome until the situation is resolved and this negative information is taken off my credit file. I can be reached at [redacted] and e-mail address of [redacted].com.
