Thad's Carpet One Reviews (2)

Poor quality of installation. We bought both carpet and vinyl kitchen flooring, including installation, from Thad's in Raleigh as part of our home renovation. Carpet went reasonably well. Installation of vinyl floor was poorest quality workmanship I've experienced in 32 years of home ownership. Installer, contracted by Thad's, was [redacted] in Raleigh NC. I believe he also operates his own business under the name "[redacted]". When laying the vinyl floor, rather than tucking the flooring under the bottom of the door frames, he simply let the flooring roll up the side of the door frame, and then attempted to trim away some of the excess with a linoleum knife. Installer returned to our home on two occasions to correct workmanship, and after he attempted to cover up the problems with a tube of white caulk, followed by wood stain over the caulk, I just asked him to leave. I would welcome requests to forward pictures, since that is the only true and accurate way of conveying the poor workmanship. Contact me at [redacted] for photos of their work.... Seeing is believing. One of Thad's technical employees claimed he was the best installer they had. After several calls from the salesperson at Thad's, we paid the entire amount owed, decided to move on, concluding that I would either hire someone to fix the mess, or fixed it myself. My purpose in writing is not to recover any costs of the poor installation, but to simply keep others from making the same mistake we made.Desired SettlementMy purpose in writing is not to recover any costs associated with the poor installation, but to simply keep others from making the same mistake we made. Business Response We appreciate hearing from Mr [redacted] about his experience with Thad's. Feedback, good or bad, helps us improve our service. I spoke to Mr [redacted] some time after the installation and heard his concerns and complaints. I did not discourage his desire to post his thoughts here. We strive to provide the best service we possibly can. There are sometimes jobs that do not meet the customer's or our standards, and this was one of those times. We apologized and offered to discount Mr [redacted] invoice, and he declined that offer, which I understand. As far as the particulars, we acknowledged to the [redacted] that the installer failed to fully and properly tuck some of the vinyl edges under door casings, etc. From what I understand, the issue that was attempted to be solved with the caulk originated in door casings being cut, NOT by Thad's, from a previous installation. This resulted in a space between the bottom of the door casing and the vinyl flooring. The installer, in an attempt to satisfy the customers' unhappiness with that gap, used caulk. The white color of the caulk was unsatisfactory to the customer, so our installer used a stain to color it brown, hoping to make it blend with the wood color of the casing. We are definitely sorry this attempted solution did not meet expectations. The installer on hand was not a wood man, and did what he could with what he had at his disposal, to address an issue that Thad's didn't create. This is why Thad's offered a discount to the [redacted]' bill. Thad's has been in business for more than 33 years. It is still a family owned and operated business. We do well in excess of 100 installations every month, and on occasion there will be instances where we have to adjust or repair our work, or attempt to satisfy the desires of our customers when a situation outside the expected scope of our work is presented to us. We continue to strive to exceed our customers' expectations. However, in the instances we fail to, we do try to resolve any customers issues as quickly as we can, and we constantly evaluate our quality of materials and services. This instance will definitely be a part of that evaluation, and we will make any needed changes. Thank you for your review.Consumer Response Of course, the installation problem had nothing to with a "wood man" or wood problems, and everything to do with poor vinyl floor installation in our home. Pictures will clearly show that. The fact that Thad's would even raise the subject of "wood" is yet another reason to avoid Thad's, if you are interested in quality floor installation. Final Business Response Thank you for your response.I'm not sure I understand the last response about a "wood man". The only use of that phrase in our response was that our vinyl installer was "not a wood man". We did not say he was a wood man or that we did a wood installation. We did a vinyl installation, the installer is a vinyl installer and we have acknowledged that the vinyl install did not meet our expectations, as we saw in our own set of photos, and again we apologize for that. The only other wood involved was the door casing and use of caulk, and that was an attempt to solve an issue that was pre-existing. Thad's did not cut a door casing as part of the installation. If there is any new information, Thad's will be more than happy to address it.

Kitchen floor started squeaking and creaking after new vinyl floor was installed along with Luan as the underlayment. After removing old existing vinyl flooring, I had the kitchen and master bathroom floors inspected on Feb. 3 by [redacted] (Thad's Carpet One employee)and he did not mention that I would need to have Luan installed to provide a smooth surface for the new vinyl flooring. We did discuss my hiring a professional to eliminate the squeaks in the master bathroom floor, which I did on Feb. 5, and all squeaks were eliminated. On Feb. 12 Thad's Carpet One installers arrived to install new vinyl floors in the master bathroom and kitchen and after inspecting both areas, determined that they needed to install Luan to create a smooth surface for the new vinyl. They returned to Thad's Carpet One to pick up the Luan and returned to my home to commence installation. On Feb. 13, I noticed that the kitchen floor was creaking and squeaking at the kitchen sink and to the left of the kitchen sink toward the dining room. I contacted [redacted] (sales associate) to inform her of the situation and she told me that she would contact [redacted] (former floor installer). [redacted] left a message on my answering machine informing me that Thad's "doesn't mess with squeaks. . ." and ". . . it is my responsibility to fix them." I do not think that it should be a customer's responsibility to fix squeaks due to something that Thad's Carpet One contractors did.Order number [redacted]Invoice total $962.61Payment method: [redacted]Sales rep: [redacted]Desired SettlementEither eliminate the squeaking and creaking in the kitchen floor as a result of luan installation or provide me with a refund in the amount of $481.30 (cost of materials and labor for kitchen floor installation).
