Complaint[redacted] gave an estimate for the job $1200 for 7-9 days to complete. He started job and next day raised to $2900. His work was horrendous!Owner gave estimate for $1200 for 7-9 days on spot for interior painting. I asked him to go hone and calculate and get back to us. He stated that he did not need to, business slow and we were helping him out. The agreement we would supply paint. He did not leave estimate with me that evening. 2 days later started job - most of first floor done. He came back next day raising price from $1200 to $2900. He said he had to use a different formula to determine job cost. My husband just had surgery and he knew we had to get job done ASAP for function at home. He took advantage of situation. The job was horrendous. He completed the job in 2 days. He rushed. Didn't take outlet covers off so they were stuck to the wall,, didnt tape woodwork, didn't cover furniture, didn't paint the entire wall above cabinets, only what would be seen, paint all over woodwork, floors and comforter. Wall is all streaked. Around the outlets and light switches appears to be all 'boxed in' where they used a paint brush instead of a roller. All doorways and windows covered in paint. Stairway and banister covered in paint. We complained and he came back to correct. We made a punch list and he did have us sign off on work. I was not home, husband was working from home and couldn't go over punch list with him so just to get him out of the house he signed off on work. Later checked work and was not fixed or cleaned up at all. That is our problem because he signed off on list. WE get that. But the outlets and switches were not on punch list and we need to fix ourselves. We had to paint our window sils to fix his mess as well. We do not want him in our house again. He misrepresented himself and gave us a price that we could afford then 2 days later changed it using a diffrenet formula. He [redacted] us. His work is amateur.Desired SettlementWe want a refund. He originally gave price of $1200 then upped it to $2900. He did lower to $2700 after going back and forth. He then came back and refunded $500. The work he provided was amateur at its best. We will have to do the job over ourselves. We would like a refund of the $1000 he overcharged us to get us back to the $1200 he originally gave us. He is a [redacted] artist. His work is messy. We cant look around our house without getting sick to our stomachs. We just want the refund of what he overcharged us. Frankly, the job isnt worth $1200 but that is what we agreed to and willing to honor that.Business Response In response to Mrs. [redacted] complaint, The original estimate of $1200.00 was for one coat of paint primer in one, to be purchased by Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] I advised them to make sure primer was included in the paint.Estimate included Living Room, Kitchen, Bathroom, Hallway, Dining Room, Stairway, and Entry Way Walls. After applying a coat, we noticed paint wasn't covering as expected. I asked if there was primer in the paint, Both Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] said no there was not. This resulted in extra labor for the application of a second coat. Mrs. [redacted] also added a room which also increased the original estimate. I discussed at length how I came up with the new figure with MR. and Mrs. [redacted] we agreed on a price, That Guys Painting was paid in full.A week later I was Informed regarding areas of concern, we returned to a list provided by Mrs. [redacted] which included light switches and electric outlet covers. Upon completion a walk through was conducted with Mr. [redacted] and concluded with signature stating customer agrees all work has been done to expectations.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)[redacted] gave estimate on 4/7/15, but never mentioned primer during conversation. He did however, write it on the estimate, but he failed to give us a copy of the estimate until he started the job in 4/9/15, after the paint was purchased. [redacted] also acknowledged he didn't leave us with the estimate indicating primer and because of his error, he would paint the additional room at no charge. The rooms that were affected by the lack of primer were only 2 rooms, not the entire job as he noted above. The additional labor was only the family room and kitchen. The extra labor was half a day, roughly 4 hours. The original estiamte for $1200 was for the entire job. He had to put more labor into 2 rooms and that increased the job by $1700. We questioned him for a very long time and he explained he used a different formula to recalculate the job than how he calculated originally. The original estimate stated the job would take 7-10 days. [redacted] had 1 man working with him (who since he fired),had the job done in 2 days. He started on 4/9 and completed 4/11. The labor included in the original estimate was based on 7-10 days, not 2. Again, less labor = more money? We emailed him with our concerns on 4/12/15 via his company's website. We had no response and emailed him again on 4/15 at which time we received a response. Mr. [redacted] came back to correct our issues 2 weeks later (he was away). We did have a punch list, my husband did sign off on it as he was on international conference call with work and just basically wanted him out of our house. He did not fix the many things in the punch list (much more than outlet covers) but we understand we are in the hook for that. We Are still finding things that were not on the punch list, like the painted 'boxes' around all the outlets and switches for example. The Our home was at a standstill for 3 weeks because of this. Just to reiterate, we never 'agreed' to the additional price. We were at his mercy. Period. He knew we were in a dire situation and took advantage. My husband just had hand surgery and we needed job done for a function on 5/3. He did 1/3 of the job then tells us he needs to change the pricing. Please keep in mind, he did not do any prep work at all. One reason the original estimate was low was because my husband did all the spackling and sanding. We were backed against a wall and we made it very clear to him that we were not happy with him and he knew we were at his mercy. At time of agreement, we gave him $200 deposit with $1000 balance due. Then he increased job to $2900. After very long 'discussion' he lowered job to $2700 to give us additional room free due to his failure to leave estimate with primer requirement. We paid him, in full, the $2500 balance on 4/11. If he gave us a free room for $200, the math doesn't add up. Kitchen, dining room, family room, bathroom, 2 hallways, stairway, His math is inconsistent. His workmanship is deplorable and his ethics are criminal. We only ask for him to honor our original agreement so we can hire someone to make our home acceptable. He refunded us $500 and we ask for the other $1000.Final Business Response Prep Work was done by Mr. [redacted], Most of¬ the complaints were from with previous ¬painters and poor prep work done. That Guys Painting gave estimate of 7 to¬ 10 days but finished in 2 because Mr. a¬nd Mrs. [redacted] had a function and we were¬ trying to accommodate their needs. We worked from 8am to 6pm and through lu¬nch on both days.Streaking and drips was part of the prep work we were not to responsible for. Those issues were from Previous painters and Mr. [redacted]. Thank you.Sent from myMail app for AndroidFinal Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)We had no complaints with previous painters which was 8 years prior contracted by contractor for house. Prep work was done by my husband as much as he could with cast In arm and hand - if something was missed it was not brought to our attention and mr [redacted] apparently painted over area instead of bringing to our attention or sanding himself as professional painters do. The drips S were not don't by previous painters. We had no complaints with their work. They used spray and would not have brush and drip marks. Drip marks are very apparent the gray and mustard color. We to,d me [redacted]
