The American College Reviews (%countItem)

Dear To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this email to file a complaint against The American College. They market a trade mark ChSNC®
The American College of Financial Services provides financial services professionals with the technical, collaborative and quantitative skills necessary to help clients with special needs through the Chartered Special Needs Consultant® (ChSNC®) designation. The ChSNC® is the only credential on the market designed to provide special needs families with an advisor competent to address their unique concerns.
ChSNC® designees are equipped with the specialized skills needed to help parents and caregivers plan for the future with honesty, ethics and compassion. A ChSNC® can navigate the unique considerations, estate planning, special needs trusts, life insurance, tax deductions, healthcare issues, Medicaid complexities, and the emotional aspects of providing for a loved one with a disability.
This designation is heavily marked and completely misleading. My husband and I worked with a representative *** in Center Valley, PA with *** with this designation. He gave us tax advice, claimed he could do estate planning etc. He not a lawyer nor is ***. The end result is we lost 26, 000 dollars from a *** whole life policy we did not need. Any money we had for our disabled child is gone. This designation is marketed and used to gain access and sell products that
financially benefit the companies that sell financial products. In our case ***. This is false advertising and misleading for families like our that tried to be proactive and help our disabled child’s future. We ended up in a worse situation and any money for our disabled child is gone. The American College claims no responsibility for the actions of the agent yet market the skills the agent is supposed to have for their own financial gain.

The American College Response • Jun 11, 2018

June 8, 2018 Dear ***: I am writing in response to your May 29, 2018 letter concerning ***'s complaint, ID # ***. The American College of Financial Services ("College") is a non-profit educational institution based in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Since 1927, the College has educated over 100,000 students in the financial services industry. Among the programs that the College currently offers is the Chartered Special Needs Consultant (ChSNCY designation. The program helps to provide students with a better understanding of the various financial challenges facing families with special needs. Our website, https://www.theamoricancollege.edu/designations-degrcos/ChSNC, contains a description of the program, the required courses and the program admission requirements. These descriptions are straightforward and truthful. The Complainant alleges that her family engaged an individual who hold the ChSNC designation and was unhappy with the individual's services. The College was not involved in the relationship and, contrary to the suggestions in the statement, had no financial interest in it. (In fact, we have no information about this matter beyond what appears in Complainant's statement.) The fact that the individual held a ChSNC designation from the College indicates that he satisfactorily completed the required coursework and other pertinent program requirements, but it does not guarantee a particular outcome or that a specific designation holder will always be the best choice for a particular situation. While we understand the Complainant's disappointment with the results that she describes in her statement, the College is simply not responsible for the advice given to the Complainant by a College alumnus.

Sincerely, Sophia D.,

JD, CPA Dean of Academics

I am rejecting this response because: 6/11/2018

Dear ***

I am writing in response to your letter about my complaint
to the better business bureaau and I need to strongly disagree with your position that
your company is a mere innocent “educational institution.” In fact, on *** website review under Special-needs planning it is posted “***
American College *** Center for Special Needs in partnership with the
American College of Financial Services in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The center
educates financial professionals on how to help parents and caregivers
financially plan for loved ones with disabilities and other special needs.” On
your own website under Corporate Partners you the claim is your work with
company to “diagnose corporate obstacles to success and provide practical tool
to drive results.” Financial results and profits for those companies such as ***.

The end result is your company has designed a designation
that claims to be able to give tax advice,

handle emotional challenges of a person with special needs,
special education, family dynamics, disability law, estate planning and much
much more all in a 15 hour course. Absolutely amazing!!! I have been at it for
years with real life experience in the trenches. There are no lawyers, doctors,
psychologists and personal care assistants. I find it completely appalling your
answer is completely dismissive because your company is COMPLETELY responsible
for a child be robbed out of 25, 000 dollars because of your marketing tactics,
false advertising and setting up an environment that robs from the most
vulnerable population group whom most cannot fend for themselves. The state
attorney general office has opened up a case on your company along with the
department of insurance. You are not a mere “innocent educational company” your
company profits off the backs of the most vulnerable population as you sell
your courses and partner with dishonest companies to push your designation ChSNC
which is a smoke screen to vulnerable family and children like mine in which
companies along with your partnerships have developed misleading advertising,
used savvy selling tactics in order to help company profit from high
commissions off financial products targeting a vulnerable population group and
leaving them in a worse financial situation which most have no way to ever
recover from. Absolutely appalling. I am
sorry to say you are very very far from "innocent educational company." Your company has developed a designation which is based in misleading advertising, that is heavily marketed preying and targeting a vulnerable population group for nothing more than pure financial gain for yourself from your misleading courses and for companies to earn high commissions and profits without regard to any real life consequences. ITS A SMOKE SCREEN and for some people in real life a death sentence because the financial loss is so severe that is what happens when you rob from people who live on the fringes and fragility of life with no means to recover they die.
