The Andrews School Reviews (%countItem)

I reached out to the head of the school in regards to some of the things I was reading on their Facebook group. They seemed to contradict the claims made on their website. For example: They promote that you can get a remote job working in medical code, but one of their instructers told someone in the group "Don't go into medical coding to get a remote job." This was confusing to me. I asked her what I was reading and told her that I was concerned because I had spent a lot of money on this schooling with the thought that the claims were true. She took this as very offensive and never fully addressed what I asked. I tried to remain professional, yet direct with her. She told me that I may not be a good fit for the medical coding career and continued to tell me I email after email that I was attacking her. I tried to explain that my intentions weren't to be attacking, only to clear things up. She told me several times that I didn't have to continue with the program. She even threatened to put me on behavioral probation. I don't see that that made sense considering I was only questioning what I was reading and then going to the source for answers. I decided to officially withdrawal and asked for a full refund due to the circumstances. They came back and told me that I owed them money per the enrollment agreement. My issue with this is that I signed the enrollment agreement prior to being told that I wasn't a good fit for medical coding by the owner and prior to the several times she told me that I should quit the program if I want to. It seems to me that she knew I had signed and she had her money, so it didn't matter to her whether I continued or not. She would still have my money either way. This seems incredibly unethical. I didn't even have access to the entire program, nor did I even scratch the surface of the content. I am willing to send back their textbooks. It seems like bad business to keep the money when they didn't want me as a student anyways.

We have done everything in our ability to resolve the complaints of the student.

I replied seven times to e-mail from the student asking the same questions repetitively and ignoring my answers. I tried to call her. She did not answer or return my call. Finally I ended the conversation, explaining that it’s a decision each person gets to make whether a career in medical coding is worth it, including the effort required in the job search, which she had said shouldn’t be necessary if you had a quality education. That, of course, isn’t the case.

It can take a serious and sometimes time-consuming job search to be successful when you are transitioning into a new career field. Medical Coding is no exception. When you limit the jobs you will be willing to accept, as in only being willing to accept a remote work-from-home position, the job search will likely need to be somewhat more intense and may take longer.

The student said that one of our instructors had posted on our social media forum: "Don't go into medical coding to get a remote job." I believe she is mistaken. She may have heard that said by someone somewhere and assumed they were an instructor when they were not. Many people do advise that if the only reason you want to be a medical coder is so you can work from home, you are doing it for the wrong reasons. While that may have some merit, it is not my own personal belief, and I have not heard that said by any of our instructors. Most of our instructors have remote coding jobs in addition to working for us, which they also do as remote coding instructors, so they typically like the idea of working from home and are definitely not people who would advise against it.

We are committed to do everything we can to help our students. We understand that a student may decide that in their particular situation, that job search effort would not be worth it. It is not my practice to tell people whether or not they are a good fit for a medical coding career.

Just graduated from here and everything stated on their website is true. Had a coding position offered to me before I completed the course, with no experience in coding at all. You have deadlines and rules to follow, and that can be tricky sometimes, but well worth the results!. Kristine F

Thank you for those kind comments, Kristine. Congratulations on passing that very tough medical coding credential exam and the new job!

I have been trying to resolve an issue with both Linda and Glenda. All they did is ignore my phone calls, hang up on my husband and we’re very rude and absolutely very unprofessional. I sent several emails and I don’t like to start issues and unfortunately I have to leave them a terrible review. For a “school” that has good reviews, those two will never give you back a call, there’s money involved and don’t have the decency to respond. I don’t want it to take it to litigation but they aren’t not making it easy for me not to.
