Customer called and explained her pool issues. She claimed she had cloudy water and sediment on the bottom of pool. I accepted to help her over the phone. When I arrived on the 6th I examined the pool and tested the water. The water tested 0 ppm free chlorine and 0 ppm Stabilizer. I asked her what...

type of sanitizing method she uses. She explained how the pool store gave her shock (concentrated chlorine). She used shock and only shock to treat pool, I told her that you cannot do this as the chlorine levels will swing heavily and there is no Stabilizer in shock. The chlorine would leave the water within 2-3 days due to no Stabilizer in the water. She did not understand this. I gave her stabilized chlorine tablets (5 approx) which was enough to get to the pool store to purchase her own. I explained she needed to get test strips too so she can monitor chlorine levels. If the chlorine levels get low and you still have chlorine you will then need to add shock to maintain chlorine. She then said I was lying because I told her she was not supposed to use shock. She does not understand how chlorine works. And how shocking is commonly needed 7–10 days in hot sunny days. I tried to explain the best way possible and she seemed to understand. I asked multiple times if you have a question please ask. And she was welcome to call me for advice as well. Then she asked about the sediment on the bottom which was very minimal and would have taken me 5-10 minutes to clean if that. It was practically not necessary. I explained it cost $150 for me to get my cleaning equipment out and to do it myself. She DID NOT WANT THIS. felt guilty to charge that for this and figured it would be much better if she would do it herself as vacuuming is part of maintaining a pool. She had no idea how to operate her vacuum. I proceeded to show her how and I had to do it about 3 times. I started vacuuming the bottom and it was working fine. She said she could handle it. Everything was fine at this point. We then went and had a look at her filter system. I looked at the pressure and it was nearing 25 psi.,this is a sign the filter needed backwashing. I asked her what she knows about her filter equipment. She replied with "nothing this is why I called you". Ok. So I proceeded to explain what backwashing is why it is needed and how to do it. After the backwash was completed | completely tore down the filter to clean. I assumed this filter needed it due to her knowledge of the filter. It did badly. I also cleaned her pump basket as that was full aswell and seemed unchanged. 2 of her 3 valves did not operate aswell which made this cleaning difficult. I explained everything to her again about chlorine and how Stabilizer is needed to keep chlorine in water. I put chlorine in her skimmer basket as this is the only way to add to the setup she has. I got the vacuum started again for her as she still seemed clueless but continued to assure me she understood. I left her chlorine and explained what she needed to buy. Charged her $80 for what I did. I diagnosed her water and advised how to correct. I cleaned pump and filter. showed her how to operate pump, filter, vacuum equipment, and how to test and treat her water. I also left her chlorine to get through about 7-10 days. She thanked me over and over again and told me how well I treated her and she appreciated it.7 days go by 13th and I get a call from her back. She says there is dirt on the bottom of her pool and water is cloudy she does not know what's going on. She asked if I could show her how to vacuum again. I agreed. I come out, water tests 0 ppm chlorine, again and skimmer basket is empty. She still had the chlorine I provided and it was unused. She did not maintain her chlorine. I explained the reason for chlorine Again. I set up her vacuum Again. Asked if she has any questions about it again. She was good she assured me. She then showed me [redacted] (alternative to chlorine) its a 3 part sanitizer she had 1 of the 3, step 3 she needed steps 1 and 2 yet. I explained I was not very familiar with [redacted] but I know enough to tell her she did not have everything she needed to treat with it. I charged her $50 for this visit (80 is my minimum rate to show up to any job). I asked if she had any issues to let me know.Bottom line is that the customer does not know how to properly maintain pool water, and equipment. I have attempted to show and explain to the best of my ability. There is not much else I can do.
