I was active duty when I signed up for their two year contractI was told I had days risk free to try the gym, and was told that in the event that I wanted to cancel after that I would simply have to pay a modest (around 50-60$) cancellation feeI was in a car accident that messed my back up pretty bad, so I called to cancel the membership and was given a number to a phone sex lineI called again to speak to the manager and was finally directed to ABC FINANCIAL who told me I could not cancel the membership unless I had a permanent disability, moved more that miles from the gym, and one other criteria I cannot recall because it did not apply to meI got a signed letter from a VA doctor saying I had a permanent disability for arthritis in my back documented by the VA, along with the cancellation feeI continued to be billed for my membership and became a homeless unemployed vet when I got out of the service due to unforeseen circumstances and called to see what happenedThey said I was unable to cancel my account and I informed them I was moving over miles awayI continued to get charged so I changed my accounts to prevent this and continued to get harassing phone calls from abc financialI am now being pursued by a collection agency for unpaid gym membership feesThis company was dishonest from the get go about their membership policy, are very unprofessional and the only positive program they have is the strength training program

Review: I signed up for The Arena Mixed Martial arts gym on 07/03/2013. I called on 07/29/2013 to cancel membership. I was told I couldn't cancel membership, I had only 5 days in which to do this. I was also informed when signing up that I had 30 days RISK FREE! The website states 30 days risk for money back. I was told this is only if I joined another GYM. I was deceived into thinking I had the FIRST 30 days risk FREE, which is a LIE! The risk free they use is deceiving many into thinking they have 30 days when in all reality its only 5 days. Why offer 30 days risk free if it has nothing to do with membership, but instead a GIMMICK!Desired Settlement: I want the contract canceled and my money for membership refunded!

Review: I signed a 2 year contract with the arena while I was on active duty in the military for $75 a month. I was told that if I had to move due to my military service I would pay a $50 fee and that was it. I was separated from service due to medical issues and moved out of state. When I tried to cancel my contract I was treated very rudely and passed off to ABC financial, who handles their contracts. ABC financial has been horrible to deal with. They are telling me I have to pay several other fees and the process to cancel my contract could take months and I have to pay the monthly fee while I wait for them to drag their feet on the paperwork. I called the arena again to see about not paying the monthly fee and I was given a number to call which turned out to be a sex hotline. I received many threatening calls from people who identify themselves as lawyers from ABC financial saying that if I continue to try and cancel my contract I will be charged hundreds in fees and it will be reported on my credit. All I want is my contract canceled per the agreement that was made when I signed it. I have been trying for months to cancel it and have paid the monthly fee even though I'm unable to attend the gym.Desired Settlement: I would only like my contract canceled. I feel I've paid them much more in monthly fees while I've waited for them to cancel my contract than the simple $50 charge that was the original agreement. I was unable to resolve this by talking to the arena, who only referred me to a sex hotline, and ABC financial who only threatens to tie me up in legal issues that will cost much more than just paying the monthly fee.
