The Auction House Reviews (3)

Review: The Sacramento Auction House over a period of about 8 months accepted 6 consignment groups totaling 193 lots, of which The Auction House has accounted for 25 lots as being sold and agreeing that they owe the Consignor ([redacted]) after sales commission a total of $1108.45. This amount has never been paid nor has an accounting been done on the remaining 168 lots from the consignor. The first consignment group was leftover items from a previous group of items. The second and subsequent groups were accompanied with a detailed list from the consignor. The auction house has never disputed the accuracy of the list did not match the items accompanied with it. Lot 1 was consigned before 10/24/2013 and had no list. Lot 2 contained 6 items and was consigned on 10/24/2013 and was accepted by [redacted]Lot 3 contained 24 items and was consigned on 3/20/2014 and was accepted by [redacted]Lot 4 contained 49 items and was consigned on 4/10/2014 and was accepted by [redacted]Lot 5 contained 64 items and was consigned on 4/8/2014 and was accepted by [redacted]Lot 6 contained 47 items and was consigned on 6/9/2014 and was accepted by [redacted]I have tried to contact the auction house on numerous occasions. Quite often I was told [redacted] would either call me back which didn't happen or couldn't come to the phone just then. When I was able to talk to [redacted], she would give me some excuse but never any payments. It has been almost 10 months since the last consignment and time to conclude this issue.Desired Settlement: I, [redacted] would like a complete accounting of the consignment items and payment made for all items.

Review: On April 10, 2015 I was moving from Sacrament, CA to Arizona. I had some household item I did not plan to take with me so I contacted the Auction House to come get them and Auction them off. They come on the 9th with a trailer and got all the items. They were to be auctioned off at the April 11th auction. I gave them my nieces address in Mesa, Az. where I would be staying. They also had my Cell phone number. After a couple months past and I had not heard from them I called to find out what was going on. I was told there was no one there to take my call. I have called weekly and biweekly until in September when I gave up. I cannot get any information from them now nor will they call me back. There were so very nice items such as: Leather sofa & recliner, 5 piece solid Oak entertainment center. a 40 gallon aquarium with solid oak cabinet and 10 large pieces of coral. 10 X 10 rug. coffee & end tables. Hand carved plant pedestal. A wicker 6 drawer chest. A wrought iron Queen size headboard. Numerous numbered prints and framed pictures. Numerous tools and electric lawn mower. Antique train set. Antique erector set. Plus many other numerous items.Desired Settlement: I would like to see accounting for all the items and proof of what they sold for and payment as promised

Review: The Auction House Sacramento

I recently called your office because I felt that my adverse experience with the above business should be reported so others could be cautioned about dealing with this auction house. I spoke with [redacted] who was very helpful.

On August 8, 2014 I had taken my vintage bottle collection to The Auction House to be place in an on line auction. The auction house was to take 40% commission of the gross sale. Ms. [redacted], the owner, told me the collection would first be photographed in small groups in preparation for the on line biding. If not all were sold at this auctions, they would be placed in a future auction.. By mid-October, I went into the auction house to as Ms. [redacted] why my collection had never been put up for bidding. She has not responded to my telephone call or email.

She said it would part of the Nov 1st auction. It was mid- Nov. auction before I recognized what I think was my collection. I presumed it was my collection. It was old bottles. There was nothing to identify then other than photos of miscellaneous vintage bottles. They were in groups numbered .194 to 233. I have no idea if this was all my collection or my collection at all. I knew that not all these groups had bids when the auction was finished and the remainder would be held over for another auction. I could never identify for sure any of the remaining collection, thereafter. The groups I did think were mine had different numberings.

By mid Jan. 2015 having all my emails and telephone calls ignored about Nov. sale, I finally inquired in person about what I might have made from this auction. Mr. [redacted]’ first reply was that this was not a day for anyone to come in there. No apology for never contacting me or paying me.. She had not done any of the calculations until this day, so she had to do so while I waited. She gave me a $90.00 check that day for partial results of the Nov. auction.. The bids on the bottles group weren’t identified with any photo or group numbers on the invoice.. She said she would send me the balance due for the rest of the collection next week.

As this promised balance didn’t arrive by April 15, 2015 nor were there any responses to my telephone calls or emails, I made another visit to the auction house. Ms. [redacted] was aware I was there but did not come across the room to see me. She had one of her staff calculate my total sales and issue me a final check for $36.00. No comments passed from her about the 3 month delay completing our transactions.

The Auction House apparently does not inventory collections, so their sales results cannot be verified. I had made no inventory myself. My error. I had over 200 bottles. I have no way of knowing if the entire collection was actually sold. I do think it is irresponsible for Auction House not to provide an inventory and specify how much was bid for each individual item or numbered group. My other complaint was the total lack of communication from Ms. [redacted] once she had my collections. I wonder if she would ever have given me the money if I had not gone in person to collect. Her rudeness in not answering calls or emails is pretty unforgivable.

I did get something from all this…a lesson that I won’t forget if I ever try an auction again. I hope you will be able to pass on the experience I had to other unsuspecting novices in the auction trials.

Thank you, [redacted]Desired Settlement: I do think it is irresponsible for Auction House not to provide an inventory and specify how much was bid for each individual item or numbered group.
