I purchased a $20 gift card from the Beer Store in Southampton PA on December 20, 2019 I used the credit option on my *** debit card to pay. I was charged a $0.77 fee which was listed on my receipt as “cash discount “ . When I called the next day to inquire about the change, I was told that it was a service charge for a credit transaction.
Upon reading more about this practice, I understand that businesses cannot charge this fee if the customer uses the credit feature on a debit card. Also, the charge must be specifically noted on the receipt, which it was not.

I thank you for the letter regarding the guest complain. I have reviewed the following information as per complain. The guest received a gift card for $20 dollars, and she was charged $20.77 on her credit card. The $0.77 charge is a credit service charge that is applied on a credit sale. The valid and appropriate sign(s) are at the check-out counter & on entrance door stating the charge on credit card transaction. If this transaction was run as a debit on our terminal, this confusion would not have happened. The check-out clerk asked the guest if she would like to run it as debit or credit, and credit option was picked by a guest. It has been our store policy to ask the guests if they wanted to do credit or debit transaction. The "Cash Discount" on the receipt shows the amount guest could save if used debit cash. To discuss and resolve the matter, I have tried to contact the guest and left a message to return the call. We will offer the guest $0.77 as well as $10 gift card to appreciate their business with the store. If the guest bought our gift card during holidays, I'm almost certain that they or their loved ones support our store year around. We are hoping to resolve this and have a continued support from the guest in the future. Please feel free to contact back @ *** should you have any question. Thank you !
