The Bowery House Hotel Reviews (1)

Review: I booked a room at the Bowery House and went to the room directly to sleep after it was confirmed that the room was clean. I had a past experience with the place where I found bed bugs and dead roaches and advised them to take care of this since it is a health hazard and must be corrected. They promised before to clean the rooms and I stopped using their service for some time.Last week I booked a room and paid in full and after I arrived to the room I found that the room was literally swarming with bugs that covered the sheets. After I set in the room (unfortunately for some time) I saw these bugs coming out. I moved my stuff out of the room close to mid night and brought to the font desk the towels with the bugs on them so they would realize how devastating it is. They moved me to another room supposedly clean but I could not sleep the whole night. I had reservation for more than on night but after what happen I canceled my reservation and requested a full refund. They were nice enough to offer a refund but my bank statement shows that there was a hold on about 350 dollars which is even three times the real cost of staying in full!!??This is not the first time and someone has to inspect this place so people would not have to go through these unpleasant situations. I also started to get rid of my belongings to make sure it has nothingDesired Settlement: The hotel has to make sure all rooms are clean and someone should inspect them from the department of health. The value of my outfits and jacket should be paid by the hotel and in full!!

Response:

Dear [redacted],

We are deeply sorry to hear about your issue with The Bowery House. Rest assure that pest control is our top priority and we do everything we can to maintain a clean and safe environment.

Being a hotel in NYC makes this a challenging task. These pests are a vast and large problem for all hotels and hostels in NYC and we do everything we can to prevent any type of issue. We do daily cleanings of our rooms to help reduce any type of pest issue. The problem is that these pests are known "hitch hikers" and will be brought in undetected by other travelers. When this happens the pest may slip through our pest control measures, and later appear to cause an issue such as this one. Since your last visit almost a year ago, we have stepped up our cleaning and pest control measures, and the incident that occurred on your most recent trip is an isolated incident dealing with that specific room and not the whole property. Most likely it was a pest that had hitch hiked its way in on another traveler. All monies have been refunded and the hold placed on your credit card, which is the full amount of the stay plus $50 for incidentals has since been released back to you and will cycle off your statement in 3-5 business days.

Again, I am deeply sorry for the issue and we are currently revamping our pest control measures to prevent this from happening again. Giving the nature of the pest and how they can be brought in undetected by other travelers makes this a challenge and a few may slip through here and there, but this is no way indicative of an infestation or a hotel wide problem. When one is found we check the entire room and surrounding rooms to make sure we have caught them all. I hope you can understand this challenge and accept my apology for the issue. Our goal is to be 100% pest free, but realistically, like all hotels in NYC, we are more like 95%.

Sincerely,
