Review: I visited the emergency room at the Brooklyn Hospital Center on July *, 2013. Both during the initial registration and at the time of discharge the same night, I presented my ID and insurance card. My insurance was valid at the time and did not expire until August **, 2013. I am currently insured by another carrier. In late fall 2013, I started getting bills from the hospital and the physician's office. They told me that my insurance was denied. When I called the insurance company, I was told that there was nothing wrong with my insurance. I was covered when I visited the hospital, and the only reason the insurance company did not accept the claim was because the hospital did not submit it in a timely manner. The insurance company has a rule that all claims should be submitted within 90 days after the hospital visit. The hospital had my insurance information from day one and I am not sure why it took them more than 90 days to submit it. The insurance company told me that the hospital needs to submit proof that they attempted to submit the claim with that 90-day period, otherwise the hospital will not receive any payment. I gave this information (along with my old insurance information and the insurance company contact information) to both the hospital and physician's billing office over the phone. I also sent it to them in writing when they sent me a bill, each time explaining the issue. I am still receiving bills. I will not pay out of pocket for the lateness of hospital or other billing staff in submitting claims. I am tired of being harassed by hospital and physician bills that would have been paid months ago if the hospital had acted diligently and responsibly.Desired Settlement: I would like the Brooklyn Hospital Center to contact the insurance company to sort out the issue. They should stop sending me bills and look into why claims are not being submitted in a timely manner. The hospital should also relay all of this information to the physician's office in [redacted]. I also contacted them in writing with all the relevant information and details. They do not seem to care that the claim was not submitted in a timely manner and send me bills every few weeks.
