The Calm K-9 Reviews (4)

We started using The Calm K9 two years ago when we had a dog in our rescue who was nervous around other dogs, resulting in aggressive behavior. Two weeks later, we picked her up and [redacted] did a two hour pickup session with us, highlighting what she had learned and how to continue the techniques he used in his home. We walked around the neighborhood, worked on using the â placeâ command inside of the home, and the doâ s and donâ ts of working with not just our dog, but our other dogs too. It was a wonderful learning experience, because even though we work with hundreds of dogs, we didnâ t often think of situations from the dogâ s perspective. Our rescue dog â Pepperâ , immediately went into foster care and they were able to watch his training videos online anytime they needed a refresher course. She is now a happy dog who has neighborhood play dates with other dogs in her neighborhood. The Calm K-9 offers the only program we have found that offers an in-home training program. The dogs donâ t live in kennels there together, doing their training outside and then returning to kennels. They live in his home, learning their new skills there in a more realistic environment, surrounded by his very well trained dogs. This technique, coupled with [redacted] skills and abilities have made a tremendous difference in the dogs we have sent there for training. We have sent 7 dogs total through [redacted] training and we have seen them gain the skills to become beloved family members. One former fighting dog was extremely aggressive towards other dogs to the point that we kept him at least 15 feet from them at all times. He had never been in a home until he went to training there and he now has his very own family, living in perfect harmony with another male dog. This was something we doubted was even possible. It was these positive experiences with our rescue dogs that prompted me to take one of my personal dogs to [redacted] a couple of months ago. A once happy-go-lucky puppy, he later developed fear, anxiety and confidence issues when he reached adulthood. It was hard to watch him struggle after these changes, becoming nervous around people, as well as other dogs which sometimes resulted in aggression. When I picked him up, we discussed the causes of his lack of confidence and fear. At one point, my dog trotted into the other room and jumped on a tread mill. Apparently he enjoyed his tread mill time walks there, which helped him to work towards a calmer state of mind. Since returning, my dog and I have been in public many times, around both strangers and other dogs. He has done wonderfully in every situation. He is calm, confident and happy in situations that used to cause him severe stress. The key to success is following through with what is taught in the pickup session. Regardless of how effective his training methods are, the dogs will forget them over time once returning home if the ownerâ s donâ t continue working with them. Dogs thrive on structure and having rules to follow which are set by their leaders. They need to feel confident their owner will make decisions so they do not have to worry. If there is no confidence in their leader, problem behaviors can and often do re-occur. [redacted] has been absolutely wonderful at answering our follow up questions. He has a plethora of knowledge and real life experience which he is happy to use when we have questions, even after these dogs become adopted. All of us here at Tennessee Death Row Dogs are so thankful to have someone of his caliber who can help the dogs we take in with severe behavioral issues.

Curtis and Meredith are the most professional, and knowledgable trainers in the areaThey go above and beyond to insure dogs from ALL over the country get the training, and help they so needThey have taken in dogs from shelters from KY and TN for training, and these dogs then go on to get adopted due to the training they receive from them! Curtis has an amazing ability to work with, and help even the most aggressive dogsI've personally witnessed his training on more than one occasionDogs that are nervous become happy, and well balanced, dogs who couldn't even be in a room close to other dogs or people, calmly and happily becoming family members, and pack membersCurtis's dogs are ALWAYS well cared for, fed a well balanced diet, exercised regularly, and their home and facility are always clean, and well maintainedI have and always will HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who TRULY needs help with their dogs

I contacted The Calm Kto help our two GSDs overcome their anxiety and excitement issuesI asked if I was able to meet him up front to see if this was the route I wanted to go and make sure I was comfortable with leaving my dogs for day and paying him nearly $4,To be quite honest, I was somewhat surprised when *** said no, "We have nearly videos on our *** page and ***." I received the invoice through PayPal and noticed a 5% service fee on top of the $This was not mentioned on the website or when we discussed paymentThe invoice also stated we were not allowed to show up to his business unexpectedlyA 10-minute notice was required"For our safety." We dropped off our two GSDs and had a very good experience to be honestWe discussed some of the issues and *** said his program addressed our concerns and he'd go over everything on pick upMy wife and I noticed two large caged areas located on the side of his house and I specifically asked if our dogs would be kept inside, as we discussed during our initial conversation, and he reassured us that they stay in a crate in their bedroom the first day or so and then in his garage (feet from where were standing in his driveway)The second 1/of the payment was due upon drop offWe decided to pay by checkI asked *** how he wanted the final payment since it was due the week prior to pickupHe said a check post-dated would also sufficeThings seemed well enough so my wife and I decided to just post-date a check to save time and hassleMy wife and *** communicated through text over the next few days to check on the dogs*** responded quickly with comments (usually with 10-minutes), videos and pictures of trainingThings seemed wellEverything changed a week laterI noticed both checks (2nd and final payment) had cleared my bank, a day apartMy wife and I attempted to contact The Calm Knearly a dozen times through ***, text, and phone calls and left several messages to discuss this, starting at No responseThis created a level of panic and suspicion for our dog's safetyI was driving through the area stopped by, I attempted to call and left a message stating I was stopping by to talkWhen I arrived, I called out to prevent disrupting any training going on inside by ringing the doorbellNo responseI noticed several shipments of dog food boxes stacked at the front doorSomething was offI knocked several times, and then rang the doorbell several timesNothingNo barkingNothingI know my dogs and they bark, which is why they are thereConsidering what *** mentioned, I went to the garage and called his name, hoping to prompt my dogs to hear my voice and go nutsNothingI then decided to walk around to the back to see if *** was trainingI started to record me walking around back to prove I was not snooping and show I was truly calling out for him to talk about our business contract, at his place of businessAs soon as I turned the corner, the dogs started going nutsincluding my two dogs in the far penI returned to my truck, called *** once more and left a message stating we needed to talk immediatelyI returned home
The Calm Kcalled at 1906, nearly 12-hrs later, I confronted *** about the premature cashing of the final payment and he said, "my bad, it was a mistake." I confronted him about my dogs being in the pen and was told I was a liar and they were not my dogs, they were hisI said I wanted a refund for the portion of services not yet rendered and he said, "You're not getting ***!" I mentioned I had video showing my dogs in the pen; my dog's bark is very distinct and clearly heard in the direction of the penYet, I was called a liarThe conversation went on over three or four phone callsI told him I wanted a refund of the final check he cashed and an additional $for services not yet rendered and he agreedAdditionally, *** attempted to refund additional funds to avoid a bad review being writtenI ended up eating $FYIThe Calm Kwebsite states the dogs would be trained all day during the training
We picked up our dogs that night and when we loaded them into the car, they had an awful odor of being outside; they were both taken to the groomer the day prior to going to The Calm KWe took them both to the vet the following morning and my 9-month-old male GSD lost lbs(when he's still a puppy and growing), my 4-year-old female GSD lost lbsMy dogs were in his care for daysEach had clay packed under their nails and had dirt in their coatextremely odd for this to be present if they were never out in the pen
Here's the bottom line, The Calm Kmay allege able be the leader in addressing canine anxiety issues, but business ethics and integrity are questionableThese character behaviors alone are the reason I will not recommend this business to anyone
