To whom in may concern:
This letter is in response to claim ID: [redacted] made by [redacted] on 1/15/2014.
In may of 2013 our office was contacted by Virginia State Police for a
vehicle accident on Grassy Hill Rd. Dispatcher said vehicle was off the road
in a creek. Upon Arrival the...

vehicle was off the road in a creek, down a
bank with the rear end in the air. I talked to the officer on scene and advised
him I would have to block the road for about fifteen minutes. I then was
approached by a man who asked how much it would be to recover the
vehicle. I told him around $500.00 depending on how hard it was to get out.
He informed me the vehicle had insurance and to proceed. At this point I
had not met Ms. [redacted]. As the rain fell I started to recover the vehicle. I
had to position my truck side ways in the road blocking both directions of
travel. I then threw my winch cable down the embankment so I could get up
and down with out falling in the creek. Once at the bottom of the bank I had
to climb under the rear of the car to hook my chains to the car in the correct
places to keep from further damaging the vehicle. I then used the cable to
come back up the bank and proceeded to winch the vehicle. To avoid hitting
trees with the vehicle I had to unhook the cable and reposition my rollback
which increases the price as well. Then I hooked up my cable again and
continued winching out the vehicle. Once the car had reached the top of the
bank I had to walk my truck using the bed to get the vehicle all the way out.
These tow trucks are very expensive as well as the equipment to recover
these vehicles drivers fail to keep in the roadway. I was approached by the
same man and told Ms. [redacted] was on the way and they only had liability
insurance on then vehicle, I told the man I would pull out of the road and
talk to them. At this point Ms. [redacted] informed me they did only have
liability insurance and asked how much it would cost for the recovery. I told
her if I took it to my lot it would be $450.00 and $45.00 dollars per day
storage. She asked if I could take it to her house in [redacted] Virginia. A
normal tow Grassy Hill Rd location to [redacted] Rd would be $125.00. I
told her I would tow it there for her for $50.00 more making the total
$500.00 . I also told her I could only accept cash. Not so it could go in my
pocket but because I did not want to receive a bad check from someone I did
not know. Our company policy was cash only on all Police tows. She then
informed me she would go by the bank and retrieve the money that I could
follow her daughter and I assumed son in law to her house and she would
meet us there. When I got to her house I asked her daughter where I should
unload the vehicle to make sure it was not in the way. I unloaded the vehicle
where I was told and then waited about 15-20 minutes for her to arrive.
Once she arrived she paid me in full and I wrote her a receipt not a recipe
for the amount of $500.00. At this time I left her house and I returned to my
home base. Keep in mind to this point I had not heard any negative remarks
about my performance or the way I recovered her vehicle. She did inform
me that [redacted] towing normally did her towing and that he only charged
$200-250 for a tow. I informed her I was called by State Police on a
rotation system because the driver of the vehicle did not know who they
wanted to recover the vehicle and that this was not just a tow. It was off the
road 20-30 feet down a bank and resting in a creek with the back of the car
off the ground. If it had just been a regular police tow we would have been
$150.00 all other in town tows are only $50.00 when the owners call us.
This whole job took about 2-2 1/2 hours and I still had to go back to my shop
and clean the mud off my truck, winch cables at various implements utilized
in the recovery. I did not here nothing else about this matter until Ms.
[redacted] came by our location looking for the Owner and left her name and
number. I informed her he was not in and he was hard to catch here at the lot
. Her message was passed on and the owner could not reach her. As far as
my charges I am very reasonable with prices. Customers get great damage
free service by knowledgeable operators with flawless records. This is my
first complaint in 9 years of towing and recovery. I am sorry Mrs. [redacted] is
not happy with me but I will continue to do business as I always have and
treat every customer with respect and fair pricing. As far as giving her
$250.00 back I do not feel that would be a good move on my part because I
already gave her great rates for the amount of training, insurance and
equipment that was utilized to recover her Chevrolet cavalier with out
inflicting any more damage to the vehicle. Mrs. [redacted] was given a
detailed receipt stating the following:
Police Dispatch 150.00
Recover from the creek $200.00
Clean Truck and all equipment $100.00
Tow 12 miles to her house $50.00
Total $500.00
Thank You,
[redacted]
This letter was written by my driver and I stand behind him one hundred
percent. Any questions give me a call .

I am unable to accept the response.  My issue here is not receiving a detail receipt not the service of the towing.  I needed a detail receipt in a timely matter in order to receive help with my bill. I went to this business and called numerous times.  This went on for weeks.  Still no one ever called me back.  I work at a local Post Office  near the scene and was there in about 15 mins.  When I arrived the town cop said he had already called someone local and I couldn't choose who I wanted.  When the tow driver arrived he said no I 'm here now I have to take it.  Made to believe I didn't have a choice he than started pulling my car on to his truck.  He never said cash only until we were starting to my house.  He  than rolled his window down and said I only take cash.  He had to wait at my house because It took a few mins.  at bank.  I don't carry that much on me. I did complain twice to him.  Once at the scene and the 2nd. time at my house.  He said if I didn't pay him he would have to load my car back up and take it to his lot.  I have attached the only receipt he left with me.  Because it was my car  and it was not blocking road I have been informed I did have a choice.  I'm sure The Carlot does good business but I find this matter was handled in a very un-professional way.

Review: The Carlot Express Towing was called to tow a vehicle I own that had been involed in a accident. The car was driven by my daughter. I arrived within 15 min. I was told by the cop he had already called for tow service and I would have to take who he called. They loaded my vehicle on to tow truck. Then the driver tells me the price will be $450.00 to take my car to his lot. It was about 2 or 3 miles and $45.00 each day it's parked there. The $45.00 started that day. Being in shock of the price I than said how much to take it to my house which was about 12 miles and he said $500.00. As we were starting to leave he than tells me the payment is cash only. I normally pay no more than $200.00 for towing. As time went on I called several times and left a message for the owner to call me and he never did. I than went to the Carlot twice and was told he didn't spend much time there. The recipe I have is hand written, no detail of service's and the driver left all copies with me. My insurance said they needed more detail. This was very unprofessional and I wonder if my $500.00 went in a pocket ?Desired Settlement: I am requesting $250.00. This will be half of my $500.00 in cash and is a reasonable tow price. Thank you, [redacted]
