My credit card was charged for two back issues I never received; I have called to try and fix the issue, but nobody EVER, EVER helps me.
On June 27th, I placed an order for back issues of the May 19th and June 25th editions of the Charlotte Observer over the phone; as per my usual practice of making sure I have all receipts, I asked the customer service agent to provide me with an emailed invoice following our call.

I never received the emailed receipt/invoice, but waited to see if the editions would come in the mail with physical, printed receipts.

The copies never came in the mail, so on 7/18 I checked my credit card statement and see that I WAS BILLED for the two editions I never received. I called customer service yet again and told them of the issue, and they said they would "escalate" the issue in order to get me replacements ASAP.

It has now been a week after that call and we have still yet to receive anything of what was asked and paid for. Every time customer service is reached out to, they provide phone numbers that go automatically to voicemail and the messages I have left have always gone unreturned.

It has now been a literal month since the initial orders were placed and I was charged without receiving anything; instead, all I've gotten is mediocre customer service that should not be allowed to continue.

Desired Outcome

I need my two print editions of the Charlotte Observer: May 19th, and June 25th

The Charlotte Observer Response

Dear ***,

Thank you for making us aware that you have not received the back issues requested (5/19 & 6/25). I have placed a copy in the mail for you. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Charlotte Office

Received a call back number today and tried to call back. Said no one named Tasha works there. Cannot seem to get through to anyone. I live on Social Security and cannot fund their error. Can't seem to get it resolved and need the money back to buy my medicine.

Desired Outcome

$635.77

The Charlotte Observer Response

Thank you. Our records indicate a refund was processed back to the card on file effective 7/25/2017. You may expect a credit with 24-48 hours of this transaction.

Was charged to my account after cancelation, and then received extra fees from bank. Want reimbursed for all. Total $72.75
On June 23, 2017 (8:21am) I called to cancel my subscription. I called with plenty of time to allow the service to be cancelled, which should be July 1, 2017. On July 1, 2017 I have received a charge on my debit card for two subscriptions, One was for $12.87 and the other was for $9.88, I also received two NSF fees because of this, which brings the total to $72.75. Once I noticed this, I called the Observer to ask about why. I called them on July 5, 2017 (10:46am) and they said they would issue a refund for the subscriptions. I informed them that they must also pay the fines from the credit union which totaled $50.00. He took down my information and sent to finance dept., I was then informed that it would take 48 hours to complete. On Friday July 7, 2017 I looked into the account and there was not repayment for the refund. On July 10, 2017 (2:36pm) I called them back asking where is my refund. That gentlemen took my information and said he had to send it to finance to get approved. Again I was told it would take 48 - 72 hours to complete. This afternoon July 14th, 2017 I looked online and saw no refund. So I again called the Observer at 10:05 am and was told the exact same thing all over again. When I got off the phone, I tried to call the finance department directly and so far that has not been successful.

Desired Outcome

Refund totaling $72.75 which is the Subscription cost and the Fees from eh credit union.

The Charlotte Observer Response

Thank you for bring this to our attention. I have a requested for a refund in the amount of $72.75 to be processed immediately.

We apologize for the inconvenience this have caused.

I subscribed to the Observer for 52 weeks Sunday only Newspaper. only been receiving for about 8 weeks now, out of that I haven't received 4 newspapers.

When I call Sunday mornings about my Newspaper the call is outsourced to Philippines and end up talking to someone I cannot hardly understand.

They promised to send a message to the driver and have them deliver my paper on July 9th 2017 at 7:00 am but that never happened.

I want what I paid for in advance my Sunday newspaper. after searching google I found these are ongoing problems with the Charlotte Observer.

Same results nothing and missed newspapers.
deliver to me what I paid for.
I also ask that the newspaper be placed on front porch but this doesn't happen either.
instead it get throw in driveway next to road.

Desired Outcome

My newspaper delivered every Sunday on my front porch. Plus I think I should get something extra for the missed four papers

The Charlotte Observer Response

We will get the message to the carrier to get the delivery corrected immediately. 8 weeks of credit will be applied to your account for the inconvenience.

I have a subscription with the Observer for Sunday delivery. I have not received a paper since May and I call every Sunday to advise to no avail.
I call every Sunday and am told that my account will be credited. I also purchased a renewal for $68+- that is to start once my current subscription runs out. This renewal was made by a telemarketer from the Observer. But, my current subscription has now been extended to August, but I would like to get the paper!

Desired Outcome

I would like to see a newspaper appear in my box on Sundays.

The Charlotte Observer Response

We will get a message to the distribution company to get this corrected immediately. We will apply all credit due for missed papers in addition to 3 months credit for your inconvenience. An email with the new expiration date will be sent directly from me to your email address as soon as Finance has applied the necessary credit.

I subscribed to receive the paper from the Charlotte Observer, after several failed attempts refund has not been issued.
I signed up to receive the paper on Sundays. Service was scheduled to start on 5/14/2017. I contacted the Charlotte Observer to inquiry why my paper was not delivered. The customer service department ensured me the delivery issue was brought to he area manger get to address. After several failed delivery attempts I asked for a refund. I still have not received a paper or a refund. I have asked for a manager and the finance department to call me. I have not received a phone call or follow up yet. The day I canceled the paper my phone rang off the hook to get me to sign back up. They asked if anyone in my household would be interested - why would changing the name on the subscription ensure the delivery issue was corrected?

Desired Outcome

Please refund the full amount I paid for services not recieved. I have called emailed several times with no success.

The Charlotte Observer Response

My apologies. A refund will be issued in the amount of $11.30 which is the difference from the total payment made. A refund in the amount of $2.64 was issued on 6/26/2017.

Credit Card charged $48.67 a week after I canceled the newspaper subscription.
I canceled the Charlotte Observer newspaper during the week of June 5. I was told that the last paper would be delivered on June 20. No problem with that. My credit card was charged $48.67 on June 16 for another month of service. I called customer service on June 19 to request a refund to my card. I was told to expect a refund in 3 to 5 days. Nothing happened. Called the following week and was told the same thing. Called today and was told that the credit took place on June 26. Checked credit union on line. No refund as of today (July 5).

Desired Outcome

I just want the $48.67 credited back to my credit card.

The Charlotte Observer Response

Thank you. Our records indicate a refund was processed on 6/26/2017 back to card number xxxx-4758.

Please check with your credit card company, there should be a credit on your account.

Desired Outcome

The Charlotte Observer Response

The distribution company responsible for the delivery has been alerted of the carrier error. They will come behind the carrier after delivery for the next several weeks to be certain that this is corrected. A new effective date of this coming Sunday 7/9/17 will be applied to the account and an additional month of credit will be applied for your inconvenience. I left a message at XXX-XXX-XXXX with my direct contact information. I will certainly be happy to help at any time.

For the past 3 years I have paid for a 52 week subscription which then runs out after approximately 40 weeks.
I paid $72.33 for a 52 week subscription on the following dates:
1/6/15
11/3/15
8/20/16
As you can see, the subscriptions are not 52 weeks as I am having to pay to continue the subscription after they say it has expired. They are saying my current subscription expires 7/4/17. I have called customer service many times and they say they can't contact the finance department but that department is the only one who can help. I never receive any response. In addition to many calls to customer service, I have also sent emails, posted on their facebook page, and contacted *** from *** to see if he may be able to shame them into giving me what I have paid for. I have paid for approximately 30 weeks of subscription that I have never received. The customer service rep that I just spoke with said it is because they changed their prices on June 5. That makes no sense as I have paid the amount I have been billed each year. I just want what I paid for.

Desired Outcome

I would either like to receive the 30 weeks that I paid for but never received or I would like a refund for 30 weeks. I don't have much confidence that even if they say they will give me the 30 weeks that they will actually deliver on it though. The customer service rep just said she got authorization to extend my 52 week subscription to actually cover 52 weeks but that they will charge me extra even though the paper bill I have to pay by July 4 says $72.33 for 52 weeks. She said they can't give me that even though that is what I am being billed for.

The Charlotte Observer Response

Thank you. Our records indicate an adjustment was processed on 6/23/2017 to honor the expiration date of 8/27/2017. A payment of $72.33 was made on 8/22/2016 for 52 weeks. You may disregard the invoice currently received.

Let me know if you have any questions or concern.

Subscribed in May for a May 21st start & yet to receive a paper
Subscribed in may for a May 21st Sunday only paper delivery for 13 weeks & have yet to receive a paper. I call every week & they promise to contact the manager to resolve the problem. They gave me the managers # and it is never answered then the message is" mail box full". paid the $13.00 by credit card & at wits end on how to resolve this. They keep saying that the subscription will be extended so how can I get a paper delivered?

Desired Outcome

Paper delivered as paid for

The Charlotte Observer Response

I contacted the customer and will provide my direct contact information via email. I will verify delivery this Sunday 6/25/17. I will have customer service update the account with a new start date and will also apply 30 days credit for all the trouble.

Do not receive what I paid for.I call & am told it will be delivered but it never comes
I ordered the Sunday newspaper on May 8, 2017 for 26 weeks, to start delivery on May 14, 2017. I paid for this subscription with a credit card in the amound of $27.88 on May 8, 2017. On May 21, 2017 I did not receive a paper so I call The Charlotte Observer and was told one would be delivered by 10:00am that morning, nerver got it. I called on Monday May 22, 2017 and filed a complaint and asked to speak to a supervisor and was told they would have one call me back, never received a call from a supervisor and was never told if an adjustment waas going to be made to my account. On Jume 18, 2017 I, again, did not get a paper. I called THe Charlotte Observer several times that morning to try and get a paper delivered and was told the paper was going to be delivered by 10:00am that morning, I stated FOR SURE and was told YES. The paper never came. I am retired and on limited incme and I expect to get what I pay for.

Desired Outcome

I want a complete refund of $27.88 issued to me.

The Charlotte Observer Response

A replacement paper was been sent out for delivery tomorrow. 8 weeks of credit has been applied to the account; extending the subscription to 1/7/18. The distribution company has been asked to verify delivery for the next 4 weeks to make sure the carrier delivers as expected. Notification has been sent directly to the carrier to explain the error that is being made.

They will not stop delivering the Encore advertisement pack.
Have called multiple times and completed the online form to have them stop, but still receiving advertisements thrown in my driveway. I see this as a security risk because it can possible alert thieves that I am out of town since I am unable to stop.

Desired Outcome

For them to stop delivery and make an apology with a statement that they will create a system that this will not happen in the future to myself or anyone else that has the same issue.

The Charlotte Observer Response

Thank you for making us aware. We will speak to the distributor/carrier and make sure the Encore advertising packet is stopped.

Robyn A and Greg D, logistic coordinators for The Charlotte Observer have been notified and will correct immediately.

Cus Ser called in April for payment. It was received. Since May 17th there has been no delivery of paper despite daily calls and emails.
In April Ms Sudie G was placed in a nursing home for rehab. Her niece & Power of Attorney received a call from The CO asking for payment which was late due to the hospitalization. The payment was made that day. The niece informed the rep at that time that Ms G was in a nursing home and could the newspaper be sent there. The answer was yes. Five days later she began receiving the newspaper at the ***. On May 18th her niece called to remind the newspaper that Ms G would be returning home that day. The rep seemed rushed and said we know her paper goes to 1924 Taylor Ave. The niece confirmed that the paper would be delivered. It is now June 14th and Ms G who is going to be 99 on June 21st has not received her paper by delivery. Calls have occurred almost daily as well as multiple emails. Each time Customer service sends a canned response that they will kick it up to a manager but nothing has been resolved. When asked if a refund could happen we have been told NO.... we will extend the delivery. Well she is 99 and looks forward to her paper.... I find this response as reprehensible and nothing has been done to make any efforts to fix this issue. What kind of Customer Service is this where you take the Customer's money, don't deliver the service, refuse to refund the money in lieu of extending a service you are not receiving in the first place.

Account # XXXXXXX
Payment of $122 was made on April 24...

Desired Outcome

We want the service addressed immediately... Deliver the paper.

The Charlotte Observer Response

I have called the number provided for the subscriber. I was not able to speak with Ms. Goins because she was very feeling well. But I spoke with a young lady and I explained that I will have replacement papers from this week sent out to the carrier and a note explaining that the papers should be delivered all 7 days. I will also have the distribution company follow up with the carrier and verify that the papers have been delivered in the morning. I provided my contact number of XXX-XXX-XXXX and will be happy to assist at any time.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Customer Response

The Newspaper for 1924 Taylor Ave was received this morning....

The delivery person also brought the papers for Mon, Tues & Wed this week along with Today's paper.

Thank you.
