Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/11/04) */
I had done almost all of the work at the [redacted]'s residence and the job took much longer because the fireplace that they picked was back ordered and the manufacture kept telling us dates for it arrival and they were wrong. This fireplace does not...

have a blower. There was no request for a blower, they said that they wanted an efficient fireplace that put out a good amount of heat and chose this fireplace based on heat output. They made an assumption that it had a blower. As soon at it arrived we installed it and had multiple test fires in it to make sure that it worked. Half way through the stone install Janice asked for the stone to cover far more of the wall than initially. I then ordered more stones that took another week to show up. I had an appointment that I failed to make to talk about the finishing touches and early the next morning I got a text from [redacted] saying that they would have someone else finish the fireplace. I completely understand there frustration with how long it took. I was also frustrated with it because the parts took so long. As to the claim that I did not respond I have many texts and emails to show that I was in communication the entire time. They have an outstanding bill of $1600 that should more than cover any repairs they have decided to do but when I was last on the job the stone "looked great" according to Janice and the fireplace was working fine. I will gladly come look at it again if it is not working fine.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/11/04) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
First of all there were never any assumptions made, We knew what we wanted, having built numerous custom homes; we requested an efficient gas log fireplace with a blower.
As soon as my wife informed Mr. [redacted] that he needed to meet with me to discuss the workmanship of the stonework, 1) He never did/would meet with me, (even after numerous promises) and 2) became very evasive.
Mr. [redacted]'s last E-mail response received on 15 Oct based on my inquiry into the status, of the blower, the broken gas-log brick work, and the missing manual:
"I am at the airport headed out of town for 2 days. I will call and check on the brick. And the blower is what was ordered so I will call about that tomorrow and have an eta for you. I do have the owners manual in my office that I can bring by Monday"
This was last I had heard from him until this afternoon.
I will agree that we were in "communication" I had asked Mr. [redacted] on numerous occasions to meet with me to make this right, he always responded that he would, but in the end he never did or has...
I am a very patient Retired combat veteran, who believes that if you treat people right, people will do the right thing. Mr. [redacted] has proven me wrong, and that he is NOT a man of his word. I believe he intends to do the right thing, he just does not have the fortitude to follow through.
I also absolutely believe that he has no intention to come and look at anything, or he would have been here weeks ago.
I can find and pay actual licensed contractors to come over repair his shortcomings,(and have already in some cases) but I really, really don't want to see anyone else have go through this.
Whether Mr. [redacted] goes by the Company name of The Chimney Sweep Guy or The Fireplace Guys, I would recommend that any potential customers look elsewhere.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/11/05) */
I have multiple emails that show that I have contacted Mr. [redacted] to come over and bring the things that he has asked for but he never responded to my emails. As Mr [redacted] mentioned before the work was estimated to be $4100 with only $2500 that has been paid. That leaves $1600 for what ever changes that they feel need to be made. I feel that $1600 should be plenty to "fix" the rock that they did not like. Throughout the entire process Mr. [redacted] and his wife have been very kind and I have tried to return that kindness. That is why I never questioned when they decided to have someone else finish the job. I had become so busy that I had very little time to finish it and if I was in there situation I would have done the same. That is why I never billed them for the final amount. I felt that there $2500 witch was less than the cost of materials and because of my mistakes and delayed parts I felt that $1600 would be fair compensation for the [redacted]'s so they can have exactly what they want in there home without having to pay more than expected.
