Review: Living at Suncrest Villas Nightmare thanks to Cooper Company!

We bought a property at Suncrest Villas on [redacted] Ave approx 6 years ago and their association fees keep going up when their services get worse each year. I have had to clean my own front area and trim my own trees because months go by with them not getting trimmed or our sidewalks getting washed down. Last year the pool was closed down for algae and they didnt clean it out for about 3 weeks it looked horrible and so gross. The hot tub has been out of service for months. There are oil spills in driveways and we have had issues with bee hives and random people walking around the property and late hours of the night. These people have no business there and make living there unsafe and often times creepy. We have wrote several letters to the association and nothing is being done. Their fees keep going up and they have several times talked about a gate but nothing has been done. Security comes around once a night for 5 minutes and then leaves. We put up a security door for our safety and now are being fined $250 monthly because we put up wrong door when in the first place the Manager at Cooper Company ([redacted]) and President of board of directors ([redacted]) gave us wrong information regarding what door to put up. Now they are trying to fine us because it does not make the place look nice since the door is different. They care more about the looks then peoples safety here. We are waiting for market to go up to sell the condo and get out of this area. It is not safe and our place has been broken into including our cars. I would never purchase a condo again especially live in a place run by Cooper Company. These people are great in collecting monthly dues but do not do their jobs I have asked them several times to consider the door being approved since they have approved 4 other different doors but to they keep denying it because its not the color or shape. Its ridiculous that they dont care about peoples safety there I hate living here just want this nightmare to end and move out of this place.Desired Settlement: I am asking them to take down door and replace it with the door they want so that they can be happy and stop making me spend money I dont have simply because they made a mistake by giving me wrong information in the first place regarding what door to get. And I also want them to do their job cleaning because I shouldnt have to be doing their job.

Thank you for the information in regards to Suncrest Villas and your request to have the board change your front security door.

When a homeowner purchases a unit in an HOA such as Suncrest Villas, by doing so, you agree to abide by the rules that govern the Association including the architectural rules, payment of assessments etc. Your volunteer board of directors work very hard to make decisions for the entire community and ask The [redacted] Company to carry out those directives. The board has a fiduciary duty to protect the integrity of the community and it's finances. Your board and manager have worked tirelessly in order to uphold the rules (CC&R's and By-Laws) and address maintenance issues that come up.

The board takes security seriously and discusses issues around security regularly at their meetings. You are correct, there have been discussions regarding a gate. But living in a Homeowner's Association means that it would need to be paid for by the owners in the form of a special assessment beyond your regular monthly dues amount. There has not been support for the gate because of the need for the special assessments. Most owners are not able to pay for this improvement as they may not be able to pay their current assessments in this economic downturn.

The board and management company have been attempting to reach a resolution with you on this issue since the Association learned of the installation of the door in early November 2012. The board received letters from the owner explaining why you installed the incorrect door. Wanting to get greater understanding, the board asked the owner of the unit (you are not the legal owner) to attend a meeting in January in order to come up with a resolution to this issue. The owner did not attend, but did provide a written letter explaining why the wrong door was installed. The letter explained how you have had 2 break-ins in your back patio area (not your front door where the security door is installed). Letter went on to explain that the installer of the security door said that removing the door would cause damage to the trim around the door. The board agreed at the January meeting to grant you until March 15th to replace the door with one that is appoved or remove the door. You and the owner responded requesting the board re-consider their decision and approve the door and agreed to paint the door Navajo white.

The board reviewed your correspondence at the April meeting and denied the request to approve the door and paint it. The board then gave her another deadline of May 28th in order to replace/remove the door. If the door was not removed, the owner would incur fines. The board also stated that if the door was removed/changed, fines would be removed.

Recently in discussing the issue with the HOA manager, you stated that the installer you hired from Craigslist does not have the tools to remove the door without damaging the trim. These type of doors can be removed without damage to the building, it is just a matter of having the proper tools.

The board has been patient in dealing with this issue and their goal is compliance.

I am confident this issue can be resolved amicably. If you would like to meet with the board, as they are the decision makers for this community, we will be happy to set up a meeting with the board.

Please give me a call at your convenience, I will be happy to assist you with this issue.

FYI-spa was closed for the winter.

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

After reading the response I still disagree that this company is concerned about safety of it's residents. Just yesterday June 6, 2013 we had a break in. They broke into the condo unit next door to mine No ** and took all his valuables at 9:00 a.m in the morning. When [redacted] showed up to the site she was more concerned about walking around writing down who had bushes too high, broken windows etc. And you write that you don't care about looks? Well could of fooled me when instead of speaking to the unit owners she walks around taking notes of what you can fine people for. It doesn't matter if they broke in thru the patio I want to secure my front door as much as my back patio door. I feel that your company needs to take the time to give out the right information before saying something. I was given the wrong information both by [redacted] and [redacted] and that's what I went by when I spoke to her to let her know it was not the same door but close enough she told me she would come by to see it since I notified her I had an appointment to get it installed but instead, she doesn't show up or have the courtesy to call to let me know. Your company obviously is not very professional and just care about collecting dues not of residents needs.

P.s. The pool was not closed when it got algae it was closed by your company and took two to three weeks to get re-opened because your previous people that cleaned pool were not working for your company anymore. Then when we got the bee hive instead of taking care of it and moving them you sent someone a week later to kill them off. So I have no respect for your company especially when you are trying to fine people for protecting their property.

Business' Final Response

The company states that the lady that is complaining is a renter of the unit not the owner and he is not obligated to speak with her. She needs to speak with landlord.
