The Coughlin Group Reviews (1)

Review: I had homeowners insurance thru The Coughlin Group for 2012. I did not renew the policy for 2013. I told them and [redacted] (complaint number [redacted])with whom they placed the policy numerous times verbally and in writing that it was not renewed.Wednesday ** July 2013 I received a call from a collection agency. I told the woman who rang that the policy had not been renewed. She said "but.....". I told her there was "no but". This has got to stop. I am being penalized for their lax business practices.Desired Settlement: I am sure the credit reporting agencies have been alerted. I want CHUBB and their agent The Coughlin Group to send letters to all the agencies to say it was their error. I want copies of those letters. I am an independent contractor. If I am paying attention to this I am not to other things.

Response:

We were sorry to hear of [redacted]’s complaint. But, unfortunately, neither the insurance carrier [redacted] nor The [redacted] Group ever received either a verbal or written request to cancel [redacted]’s policy. Without [redacted]’s authorization to cancel the policy by signing and returning a Loss Policy Release (LPR) Cancelation Notice, the policy automatically renews and continues to protect [redacted] with coverage against an unforeseen event.

The Policy Terms of the above referenced policy indicated the ways available for [redacted] to terminate her coverage. It reads as follows:

[redacted]'s Cancellation. [redacted] may cancel this policy or any part of it at any time by notifying us of the future date that the cancellation is to take effect.

We can provide a copy of [redacted]'s policy terms for your reference. Our records indicate that [redacted] did not advise us in writing or contact us in advance of the date she desired her coverage to be terminated.

There are many services that a Property/Casualty broker can provide a client, but canceling a client’s policy without a signed LPR from the client is not one of them.

We’re sorry [redacted] had a poor experience, but the process is in place to protect a client against unforeseen circumstances while coverage is in place. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion she may have experienced. We have appreciated [redacted]'s business, and hope we can serve her in the future. If you should have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly at [redacted].

Response:

As we said before, we wish the client had contacted us, her insurance Agent, or the insurance carrier, [redacted], at the time she wished to have her homeowner's coverage canceled.

[redacted] has reviewed all of the information involving this customer and is satisfied that there has been no liability on their part or ours the Broker.

[redacted] has not responded directly to the insured in this format since this complaint is not addressed to them as a company.

We will not acquiesce to the complainant's request to communicate with the credit agencies handling her past due account.

We are available for further info.

Thanks.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here] I contacted both [redacted] and the insurance broker. No one took any action. I sent back the invoices with a statement that I had not renewed the insurance. No one took any action. a collection agency called me. I explained I had not renewed the insurance. at last someone got it. A collection agency called me. ME who pays all her bills in full each month.

Is it indeed my responsibility to keep alerting these people? If I do not send a check or back a form that I wanted to renew exactly how is this my fault? If I had not paid why did they just not drop me? why did I continue to get invoices? Are you saying that the broker was not alerted to the fact I had not renewed? do they not get a fee from the insurance company? Why had they not contacted me directly? I would have at least listened.

No one cared.
