We were less than impressed with the performance of Banfield's Lawn Care & Landscaping Spoke with a representative on 5/20/regarding sod replacement on a large portion of the yard and top dressing, aeration, and regular servicing on the remainder Signed a contract after a long conversation with the owner on 5/21/after he assured me that we would not have to babysit the project as our mother has Alzheimer's and we simply had no time to keep checking up on the status of the job We were told that it would all be done no later than the last day of July Though that was over months away, we agreed to it They came in early June and killed all of the turf that was to be replaced and our yard looked dead for almost full months, as they rushed to get the job done this week...the last week in July We feel that they killed it so early to hold us to the contract and act as if they were on target It gave us hopes that possibly they would get to it sooner But alas, during the first months of summer, we had dead grass The young man that originally killed it off had to come back in July to reapply weed killer because now our yard was filling in with weeds On the existing healthy turf, the aeration was performed well, but the so called top dressing (a special formula) had to be applied twice and both times it was barely visible The first chemical application that was applied to the yard left long yellow and darker green stripes as their machine was having some problems Once they were aware of it no one called us, we had to call them and they said it happened to all the yards that day and they would come back and fix it No real change once they did We were concerned about some brown areas developing in the existing turf and was told initially that some areas were getting too wet and some were too dry The next week it looked worse so they came out and we were told we had chinch bugs We had another pest control company come out and we physically saw them pull live army worms out of a x inch square area It was army worm damage and not chinch We paid for a nutrient test and a nematode test and were told the results would come to us as well as them We never received either and after recently asking again, we received the nutrient test but the nematode test we paid for is no where to be found This week when they finally rushed out here to begin the job as this was the last week they could hold us to the contract, they were completely unprepared We have very large oak trees and of course that means a lot of roots We were already told by others that we would have to have 1-inches of dirt in almost all of the areas because simply scraping the surface would not give the new sod the much needed soil below for a good root attachment, plus there were so many roots that it could shock the trees and possibly kill them (there are a lot of other smaller plants, ornamental trees and shrubs that their roots could have also been compromised) The young man that was heading up the crew immediately told me we needed top soil and he had called for some As he is telling me that, up pulls the sod! No prep work had been done, and the sod had already been cut and delivered Now we are dealing with a time sensitive matter because the sod can die before they have time to lay it There were several young men working and they were hard workers, but what tools they have to use are very archaic or they simply have none As the sod was delivered early, they had to choose where to have them drop it For obvious reasons the pallets were not dropped in the most convenient places because the yard was not even prepped When they finally had it prepped they had to haul it in wheelbarrows from a far off distance because they had no lift to move the pallets Then the second day they came and physically loaded piece of turf at a time from a pallet and a half into the back of their truck to bring to another job that they were called off of to start ours It went on and on like this Also, we were given "Banfield Bucks" for their Garden Center Drove all the way to Pace from Navarre and was terribly disappointed It looked nothing like their brochure The owner never spoke to us again after that initial conversation We believe they need to stop taking on new jobs and complete the promises they have made to their customers It seems to be about mass production rather than a truly great product with high standards and great ethics ***The one thing we will say that is a positive, they have fantastic women that work in the office A long time employee and a rather new one When they say something you can be confident that they are telling you the truthThough many of the other employees are nice, many times they are simply telling you what you want to hear "to please the customer" That type of pacification is quickly detected because their actions do not match their words There is so much miscommunication between the staff and you get a different story from many of them They are also hard to get in touch with After they left we went out the next morning and cleaned up the yard and beds for about hours Getting out cut sod, roots, dead grass, branches, etcfrom the beds and sweeping the paver path and driveway We still have to sculpt the borders with smoother edges, but glad it is over We will not be using them as our ongoing service even though we will forgo the lifetime warranty should the sod have problems in the future After this experience we doubt they would stand behind the warranty....there would be some other excuse about why the lawn died :(
Three years ago I chose Banfield because they could provide all the services I neededThat included mowing, spraying, sprinklersPaid them thousands for new sod and was clear that now this is their lawn, they need to keep it beautifulI'm not the expert, they are Fast forward to nowI have the worst looking lawn in the neighborhoodI repeatedly told them to do what was neededI would pay extra for additional sprayings, top dressing, etc Nothing! At every turn they blamed the condition for either too much rain, too little rain, bad sprinklers, etcI went as far as adding the gauge that shuts down the sprinkler if it rains! When I inquired about the problems, by their own admission they never did soil testing to assess the issuesSpraying for weeds only made them flourish, add nutrients made the grass turn yellowThere are huge brown areas in the lawnI was told to get top soil and fill in those spots myself! I'm 65, if I wanted to do it, I'd buy a lawn mower too and just call it a day! I hired them for their "expertise"The lawn looks worse than if I had taken care of it myself When I recently just cancelled my spraying services, I specifically asked for the mowing to continue until the end of the yearI guess they just cancelled me all together because I haven't seen a lawn mower to two weeks It must be fantastic to have a business where a customer is willing to pay extra if additional services are required but still don't want to deliver The really funny thing in all this is that there own sales people knock on the door or put advertising in my mail box offering their services to fix my lawn!
Called in with interest in having new sod in my lawnThe salesperson came out and thoroughly went over everything with meHe offered a good price and I signed an agreement for the workThe work began as scheduledThe workers were very professional and were able to answer all of my questionsOnce the job was finished, the new sod looked greatI am very happy with the work Banfield's did for me, and will be using them for more landscaping when I am ready to have the work doneI would happily recommend Banfield's to anyone looking to having any sort of lawn work done
Very dissatisfied
This company from the owner on down lacks follow through, attention to detail, unreliability and less than satisfactory services
Will not only not recommend, but if asked about a lawn service, I will vehemently tell them to avoid this company
I have been a customer of Banfield Lawncare for two years-They installed the Zoysia Lawn nicely, but their follow up care has been horrible-I would not recommend their serviceI have more weeds after their treatments and the hardy Zoysia grass has been on a steady decline I don't think they know what they are doing or how to manage the healthy treatment of ZoysiaThe employee I spoke to on the phone said they do things at their leisure and my opinion doesn't matterI thought I was the customer and they were in business to provide a service , but I guess I must be mistakenTheir promise of a beautiful lawn is a fantasyI would not recommend them to my worst enemy
We hired Banfield to replace our lawn and to come do continuous service to the lawn so it would stay looking good They came for about a year and then just stopped comingTheir policy is they will continue to come and service the lawn until they get something in writingWe never provided anything in writing to stop and was wondering why they stopped coming Our lawn started looking bad and we had to call them several times to come and tell us why it was not looking good They then told us it was our faultand they would replace the bad spots for lots of moneyWe hired them to keep our lawn looking good so don't understand why they feed it was our faultWe even made the mistake in hiring the sprinkler guy that they recommendedThis guy did a terrible job on our sprinklersAgain, not sure how that is our faultThey said they would guarantee their work but when you call them to fix something they want more money and tell you its not their faultThey are all talk and no actionThey don't honor their promises
We were less than impressed with the performance of Banfield's Lawn Care & Landscaping. Spoke with a representative on 5/20/14 regarding sod replacement on a large portion of the yard and top dressing, aeration, and regular servicing on the remainder. Signed a contract after a long conversation with the owner on 5/21/14 after he assured me that we would not have to babysit the project as our mother has Alzheimer's and we simply had no time to keep checking up on the status of the job. We were told that it would all be done no later than the last day of July. Though that was over 2 months away, we agreed to it. They came in early June and killed all of the turf that was to be replaced and our yard looked dead for almost 2 full months, as they rushed to get the job done this week...the last week in July. We feel that they killed it so early to hold us to the contract and act as if they were on target. It gave us false hopes that possibly they would get to it sooner. But alas, during the first 2 months of summer, we had dead grass. The young man that originally killed it off had to come back in July to reapply weed killer because now our yard was filling in with weeds. On the existing healthy turf, the aeration was performed well, but the so called top dressing (a special formula) had to be applied twice and both times it was barely visible. The first chemical application that was applied to the yard left long yellow and darker green stripes as their machine was having some problems. Once they were aware of it no one called us, we had to call them and they said it happened to all the yards that day and they would come back and fix it. No real change once they did. We were concerned about some brown areas developing in the existing turf and was told initially that some areas were getting too wet and some were too dry. The next week it looked worse so they came out and we were told we had chinch bugs. We had another pest control company come out and we physically saw them pull 4 live army worms out of a 5 x 5 inch square area. It was army worm damage and not chinch. We paid for a 5 nutrient test and a nematode test and were told the results would come to us as well as them. We never received either and after recently asking again, we received the nutrient test but the nematode test we paid for is no where to be found. This week when they finally rushed out here to begin the job as this was the last week they could hold us to the contract, they were completely unprepared. We have very large oak trees and of course that means a lot of roots. We were already told by others that we would have to have 1-2 inches of dirt in almost all of the areas because simply scraping the surface would not give the new sod the much needed soil below for a good root attachment, plus there were so many roots that it could shock the trees and possibly kill them (there are a lot of other smaller plants, ornamental trees and shrubs that their roots could have also been compromised). The young man that was heading up the crew immediately told me we needed top soil and he had called for some. As he is telling me that, up pulls the sod! No prep work had been done, and the sod had already been cut and delivered. Now we are dealing with a time sensitive matter because the sod can die before they have time to lay it. There were several young men working and they were hard workers, but what tools they have to use are very archaic or they simply have none. As the sod was delivered early, they had to choose where to have them drop it. For obvious reasons the pallets were not dropped in the most convenient places because the yard was not even prepped. When they finally had it prepped they had to haul it in wheelbarrows from a far off distance because they had no lift to move the pallets. Then the second day they came and physically loaded 1 piece of turf at a time from a pallet and a half into the back of their truck to bring to another job that they were called off of to start ours. It went on and on like this. Also, we were given "Banfield Bucks" for their Garden Center. Drove all the way to Pace from Navarre and was terribly disappointed. It looked nothing like their brochure. The owner never spoke to us again after that initial conversation. We believe they need to stop taking on new jobs and complete the promises they have made to their customers. It seems to be about mass production rather than a truly great product with high standards and great ethics. [redacted]The one thing we will say that is a positive, they have 2 fantastic women that work in the office. A long time employee and a rather new one. When they say something you can be confident that they are telling you the truth. Though many of the other employees are nice, many times they are simply telling you what you want to hear "to please the customer". That type of pacification is quickly detected because their actions do not match their words. There is so much miscommunication between the staff and you get a different story from many of them. They are also hard to get in touch with. After they left we went out the next morning and cleaned up the yard and beds for about 2 hours. Getting out cut sod, roots, dead grass, branches, etc. from the beds and sweeping the paver path and driveway. We still have to sculpt the borders with smoother edges, but glad it is over. We will not be using them as our ongoing service even though we will forgo the lifetime warranty should the sod have problems in the future. After this experience we doubt they would stand behind the warranty....there would be some other excuse about why the lawn died :(
I have been using Banfield's services for about two years and I was very surprised to see the negative reviews on here! I have always had good experiences with this company and recommend them to people I know. I use the treatment service, and the mowing service. The employees are always very helpful from the office staff to the people who take care of my lawn.
Three years ago I chose Banfield because they could provide all the services I needed. That included mowing, spraying, sprinklers. Paid them thousands for new sod and was clear that now this is their lawn, they need to keep it beautiful. I'm not the expert, they are. Fast forward to now... I have the worst looking lawn in the neighborhood. I repeatedly told them to do what was needed... I would pay extra for additional sprayings, top dressing, etc. Nothing! At every turn they blamed the condition for either too much rain, too little rain, bad sprinklers, etc. I went as far as adding the gauge that shuts down the sprinkler if it rains! When I inquired about the problems, by their own admission they never did soil testing to assess the issues. Spraying for weeds only made them flourish, add nutrients made the grass turn yellow. There are huge brown areas in the lawn. I was told to get top soil and fill in those spots myself! I'm 65, if I wanted to do it, I'd buy a lawn mower too and just call it a day!
I hired them for their "expertise". The lawn looks worse than if I had taken care of it myself. When I recently just cancelled my spraying services, I specifically asked for the mowing to continue until the end of the year. I guess they just cancelled me all together because I haven't seen a lawn mower to two weeks. It must be fantastic to have a business where a customer is willing to pay extra if additional services are required but still don't want to deliver.
The really funny thing in all this is that there own sales people knock on the door or put advertising in my mail box offering their services to fix my lawn!
Very deceptive business practices. I called asking for a quote and their rep came out. I kept asking for the total cost of the services and the rep always skirted around the questions and never gave me a direct answer. He proceeded to say sign this agreement and then we can give you a run down on prices. Unfortunately I signed the agreement expected just to get a quote. I shipped around and come to find out I was now locked into a deal with a company who does very poor work. In order to cancel this contract, I now had to pay 30 percent of the balance and no services were even rendered.
My advice pay attention and be sure the rep explicitly gives a quote ..their add says a no cost obligation quote but I had to sign paper work to see what the cost was. That's deceptive.
