We must protect our interests as well as our customers interest.  We are only validating that the customers are who they say they are. We request this only on a small percentage of our customers whom we cannot verify their identity by any other means. The customer, as you know from your experience, has the opportunity to reject the request and cancel the order. We also request, as you know, that the customer cover vital information on drivers license and credit card before scanning an emailing their information.

Thank you and Have a nice day

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:

I respect and applaud this company's desire to protect customers
and the business from credit card theft and lost chargebacks but it's policy
jeopardizes consumer’s privacy and puts their identity at greater risk of being
stolen.  I’ve successfully completed thousands
of online purchases from hundreds of online retailers like [redacted], etc. over
the last 10+ years and have never been asked to send front and back copies of
the credit card and drivers license.
These reputable online retailers have fraud mitigation techniques in
place that gather and securely store or validate personal information necessary
to authorize and verify purchasers.
Verifying that billing and shipping addresses match those registered
with the credit card company is one such mechanism.   The optional practice of photo verification
for credit card purchases at brick and mortar stores, like [redacted] is a rare
occurrence and is being phased out as more and more stores shift to a self
check-out model.   In the past when this
was more common it was used to verify identity by comparing the purchaser’s
face with photo id and the name of the credit card with the name on the photo
id.  That’s it.  This form of identity verification did not
persist beyond the initial transaction.  How
would you feel if the next time you made a purchase at [redacted] the cashier
took a photocopy of your driver’s license and credit card and placed it in a
file at his/her register?  Would you feel
your privacy and identity is at risk?
There would be uproar by customers if this practice was implemented at
our local gas station, grocery store, or department store.

There are better techniques in place today besides asking
consumers to send front and back copies of driver licenses and credit cards to
protect businesses from lost chargebacks.

I encourage the Revdex.com (Revdex.com), MasterCard,
Visa, and the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI) to
investigate the practice by this online retailer to request and store the front
and back of a customer’s drivers license and credit card as I believe this is a
violation of PCI DSS (https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/security_standards/index.php
), MasterCard Rules (http://www.mastercard.com/us/merchant/pdf/BM-Entire_Manual_public.pdf),
and Visa International Operating Rules (http://usa.visa.com/download/merchants/visa-international-operating-regulations... /> (pg. 468)).  I’m
concerned that uninformed consumers that comply with these requests and provide
this personal information open themselves to greater risk of identity theft.
Regards,
[redacted]
