Review: On March *, I booked the [redacted] for Oct. **-Nov. * via [redacted]a. Under special requests, I advised,"Anticipated arrival time is 10pm on 10/**/15." An [redacted]a email confirmed the reservation. It included instructions to contact the hotel for check-in.On March *, The Dinosaur Haus charged my credit card $642.29. ([redacted] is apparently affiliated with [redacted].) On Oct. **, one week prior to check-in, I began calling [redacted] requesting check-in instructions. I called [redacted] and another phone number provided by [redacted]a. Both phone numbers result in an answering machine advising to leave a message and the call will be returned, or for a faster response, to email [redacted]. I left messages on Oct. [redacted] saying I would be checking in late. I also emailed on Oct. ** with the subject line, "[redacted] check-in Oct. **," writing, "Hello. My wife and I are booked in the [redacted] near [redacted] starting on October **. We do not arrive until about 10pm. Are there any special instructions we should follow to check in that night?"There was no response to my email nor to any of my phone calls. I left additional phone messages on Oct. [redacted], advising the company on Oct. ** that my flight was delayed and that I would be arriving later than expected.When I arrived at the address, the building was locked. There were no instructions posted for how to enter. I called and left yet another message that I was unable to enter. I left a final message after 2 AM on Oct. ** requesting a phone call because I was having to seek lodging elsewhere.To date, three weeks after I was supposed to check in, I have never been contacted by the business. None of my calls have been returned, and they have never answered their phone, even when contacted by [redacted]a. (The phone number for The Dinosaur Haus yields an identical answering machine prompt.) I was charged a deposit for a service that was never provided.Desired Settlement: I would like my deposit of $642.29 refunded. It cannot be refunded to the credit card charged by the business as that card number was subsequently stolen and closed by the credit card company for unauthorized use.If [redacted] is not a legitimate business, as I suspect it is not, they should no longer be allowed to advertise themselves. My experience should not be repeated.

Review: We booked a reservation for Sept ** through Sept **, 2015 at an apartment located at [redacted] and apparently managed by [redacted]. This reservation was booked in March 2015. A 50% deposit was charged to my credit card as indicated during booking. Beginning Sept *, 2015, I began trying to reach the rental agency for this apartment to confirm the last of my travel plans. No one EVER returned a phone call or an email to us during this period prior to our departure.

At 11:54am PST on Sept **, 2015, I received an email cancelling our reservation. The email indicated a refund was processed. The email was also a "reply" email to one I had sent on Sept *, 2015. Our plane was scheduled to leave at 9:00pm that evening. Consequently, we had to make other arrangements for a hotel to which we paid a much higher rate as it was booked the day before travel.

As of this complaint, I have not received the refund. Since my return from NYC, I have left several voice mails and sent several emails asking for confirmation of the refund. To date, I have had no response from this company.

I do not know if this refund will be processed through the credit card originally charged or they will send a check for the amount. If they do send a check for the amount, will the check even be valid?Desired Settlement: I would like the refund to be processed as indicated in the email sent. I would also like confirmation that it has been completed.

Review: 1. we booked via the hotel booking site [redacted] an apartment in an apartment hotel called [redacted]; the pictures showed a big entrance, two different types of apartments, and the hotelbar; situated on [redacted]; for a total price of $ 1,772.08 for 8 nights; 50% was paid at booking, and 50% was supposed to be charged at the hotel at check-in; however the full amount was charged one week before traveling;

2. upon arrival we received a text message in which they asked us to be discrete and to not discus our arrangement with the neighbors as it is a private apartment; this astonished us as we had booked an apartment hotel;

3. the supposed check-in by the concierge turned out to be in the street, the apartment was a basement in a brownstone, and did not look at all like the pictures from the hotel entrance on [redacted]; later on we found out that they used the entrance of the Century 21 department store as their so called entrance to the [redacted] apartment Hotel!!!

4. we only got a key for one lock which is the type of lock on a bathroom door; they refused to give us the key to the safety lock, and they texted us "the [redacted] has the master key, we do not have it"

5. we complained with [redacted], but they would not help us unless we paid for another hotel without guaranteeing we would get anything back from this place;

6. we tried to call [redacted], but only got an answering machine, not mention of the name [redacted];this scared us;

7. as we could not secure the place; the [redacted] had all the keys, we only had the key to the flimsy lock, and they already charged my credit card for the full amount, we did not dare to complain, afraid our luggage might end up in the street; these people are obviously operating a scam; we walked around with our valuables all the time;

8. we checked our creditcard payments and it turned out that the amount was charged by The [redacted]; and when we checked our emails we found one email some time ago from [redacted] signed by a [redacted], the same person that sent us the text messages;

9. the apartment itself was in a bad state: a leaking and hence unusable sink, the drawers of the cupboard were broken, and the place was invested with cockroaches; we managed to kill several;

10. all in all it is a total scam; fraud; we went to the tourist board and they advised us to file complaint with you and the Department of Consumer Affairs;

11. we have filed a complaint with [redacted], and we will contact the police, because this is fraud.

12. we checked for reviews for The [redacted] and [redacted], and found out that there are a lot of reviews denouncing them as a fraud and a scam (unfortunately these were placed after we had booked, so we were not aware of them); in the reviews we also found that one apartment of the [redacted] had been repossessed by the New York City Council!

This company should be stopped; they target innocent tourists by misrepresenting themselves; they give New York a bad name.Desired Settlement: Refund of the amount paid; and severance payment: we could not do our business in NY as planned, we spent one day and a half just in discussion with [redacted], and finding out about The [redacted] and finding out where to file a complaint, and how to stop them from luring more tourists. And back in the Netherlands we still are occupied with this case.
