In the Summer of 2019 I signed up for Edge Fitness' *** club in *** before it had opened. I spoke to a salesman named *** who upsold me on the $20 per month membership. He informed me that I would be charged $1 to sign up along with the $20 monthly charge. However, on February 1st of 2020, I was charged $49.99 by EDGE Fitness Clubs on my credit card. I contacted the club and was told that a refund would not be possible and that this was written in my contract. I confirmed this with their corporate office as they sent me a PDF of the contract. Although I have no knowledge if this is the contract that I officially signed as I wasn't shown one to begin with and the one I was given could have easily been edited. I have spoken to a plethora of other EDGE gymgoers who told me that they were never informed of a $49.99 annual fee. This tells me that there have been an innumerable amount of people who have been lied to in becoming founding members of said gym. The fee is something that has only become verbalized after the gym opened, but before its opening no one was explicitly informed about it and the selling point of becoming a founding member was that said annual fee didn't have to be paid, according to the salesperson I spoke to, ***, who was present with his manager, ***.
