Review: I Payed a tatoo deposit of $21.27 for which the girl at the front counter that I made the appointment with stated that if I decided to go to another shop would be given back. I Tried to reach the business for 3 days prior to my appointment to cancel due to me wanting to go to a different place for the work. I Was called the day prior to my appointment and was told by the artist that the appointment deposit was non refundable. NO WHERE does it state OR was informed that the deposit was non refundable. Their hours of operation on the door also states m-f 1p-9p, as well as their answering machine message, but apparently they are closed m-w when I was trying to reach them. This is unacceptable. They practically stole my money. I received no service whatsoever for my money (no communication, artwork, NOTHING). I want my money back which they are not giving me.

Product_Or_Service: None

Order_Number: Invoice [redacted]

Desired Settlement: I want my deposit of $21.27 refunded. Any other compromise is unacceptable.

We do apologize that you had a negative experience at our shop. However, no one ever stated that a deposit is refundable, and in fact the desk where you paid has a massive sign which states "Absolutely NO RETURNS On any product or service." You never once left a message or spoke with the owner of the establishment about your problem. Not event an email was submitted about this. Why would you make an appointment at one place knowing you were going to go somewhere else? You would not. You made it with us, [redacted] drew the first design a heart with wings, you decided you wanted to change it, you sent [redacted] the new design which he also drew up a different set of wings and a new heart without lettering. He did much more than the standard amount of drawing, normally once you had him change the design we would have required another $20 plus tax to your deposit. When contacted you told us that you decided to go somewhere closer to your house. This is not a reason we refund for. Beyond that we have a 24 hour cancellation/reschedule policy which you were also outside of at that point which would have allowed you to maintain that deposit for a future date/piercing/product. When we talked to you last you told us that, said how do I get my deposit back and were informed that it is and always was non-refundable. Having said that if you can somehow justify your reasoning well enough I will still refund your deposit. Call [redacted] any day except tuesday and wednesday at XXXXXXXXXX.

Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2013/04/02) */

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT ACCEPT the response from the business.)

I Do not accept the offer this establishment made. I shouldn't have to justify or prove that I called Tuesday, Wednesday (when I actually went to the shop and left a message and Thursday (when my message was returned). The hours listed on the answering machine states the hours of operation, the sign on the door all say the same thing that it would be open for business during the week and on weekends, WHICH ARE COMPLETELY INACCURATE AND FALSE. I made the appointment because I was told the artist wouldn't even work on anything unless I had an appointment, and while making the appointment with [redacted] I informed her that I was indeed looking at a few other shops to see what they could offer me. I felt I had no choice but to make an appointment to be able to see what would be offered. She said, "well, just let us know", nothing about the money being a non-refundable deposit for anything. This is why I made the appointment. When I went to other shops and asked for help, no one made me make an appointment and pay a fee. The sign behind the counter states " no refunds 'unless you can remove the tattoo'" or something along those lines. I didn't receive any kind of service whatsoever. So why would ANYONE think the money paid wasn't fully refundable...especially when I called more than 24 hours in advance on, 3/19/13@6/7/8pm(from my work), 3/20/13@10am/1:45p(while I was outside the shop this is where I left a message), you returned my call 3/21/13@12:15p(still over 24 hours prior to my appointment) AND I returned the shops message at 1:03p shortly thereafter(STILL over 24hours prior to my appointment. This where you told me the money I paid was non-refundable for my appointment on 3/22/13@2:30p).

I refuse to drive there or call anymore than I already have just to waste my time trying to justify something that I shouldn't have to in the first place. Either my money gets refunded, or it doesn't, but I refuse to try and justify why my money shouldn't be stolen.

You state that you will not defend your position, however you have, and you provided information which leads me to believe that regardless of your ignorance to the language of our sign which reads, "Absolutely NO REFUNDS on ANY product or service," or your terribly unintelligent way of which you tried to find a tattoo which suits you, your situation would almost be worthy of refund. However, still you display clear ignorance to the fact that the artist does work to make a design, and deserves pay which is verbally negotiated in the deposit process. Instead, you assume a group of quality artists, normally paid at least $100 per hour, should work for you for free, and you should be able to choose one, leaving others having worked without receiving anything. This may be okay for a low quality artist who is sitting around doing nothing because no one besides people like you are foolish enough to be permanently marked by them. On the other hand, we who actually have value attached to our work, and who have a reputation for fulfilling those expectations receive payment in advance for time spent creating art. If you are so wealthy that you can give a bunch of such artists drawing deposits, and then choose from them (in your case without ever event seeing the art) then god bless you, you worked for the money and deserve to spend it how you choose. All of that being said, you probably got a pretty low quality tattoo since you did not need to make a deposit, so I feel bad for you, and it will likely cost some more to fix at some point. Therefore, If you change this to resolved, we will refund your $20 plus tax to whatever address you choose in a check from The Edge Tattoo.

Review: I made a commitment of 50 which locked in a date and time for a tattoo with this shop. After multiple attemps to contact the artist set to do my tattoo with no response I went to the shop to check if a draft of my tattoo was ready. I was greated with no smile, friendly attitude or even respect. The "whatever" attitude made me feel uncomfortable getting a tattoo with him. I feel that under the circumstances I deserve my deposit back as I only cancelled based on the attitude of the shops employee. I tried to ask for it back and recieved more disrespect and was given excuses as to why all of this happened and told that all I could have was a tattoo.Ultimately I was offered store credit which I denied as I dont want to go there for a piercing or tattoo as the talent wasn't in question more the unpleasant attitude of the staff.Desired Settlement: All I want is my 50 deposit back as I feel I was treated badly.

Response:

This client had an appointment for a tattoo set up with our best and busiest artist, for which they deposited $50.00 plus tax. Just before making the deposit, it was stated to the client that "The deposit is non-refundable for any reason," immediately followed by being told, "Also, we have a 48 hour re-schedulte and cancellation policy," by the owner of the establishment whom is writing this response. Agreeing to our policies verbally, they know that their deposit was and is non-refundable. The client did stop in to see [redacted], which the artist was not informed they had to produce, nor a deadline set for. Before booking the artist spoke with the client about what would be done, and told them it would be drawn on the day of to fit the area best in the process of fixing her currently poorly done tattoo from another tattoo artist. [redacted] is one of our two well known custom artists, and does at least half of his work drawing on the skin the day of the tattoo. When she stopped unscheduled to see art which was never asked to be drawn, or a date set to check on the art, on a day [redacted] was booked all day, whom was tattooing another client at that time, and did not have time to speak with her at all because he could not be rude to his other clients. The next day the client called to cancel their appointment which was only one day away, which also violated our 48 hour reschedule policy. At that point, they spoke with me, and I explained all of this to her and her child's father, whom made subltle verbal threats of violence several times. Still I offered piercing or merchandise of $50 to accomodate them still which they refused. There is absolutely no way this client deserves a refund in any capacity, violating several policies they were clear on, and being generally irrational throughout our conversations.
