Dear Revdex.com: Attached is the clarification of my complaint against The Ellwanger Estate B & B, 625 Mt. Hope Avenue, Rochester, NY  14621.  The 1st letter attached is the letter we sent to Rosemary J[redacted] delineating our disappointment of how events unfolded on our Wedding...

Day.  The second attached letter is the rude and snarky response that Rosemary sent.  Most of her statements don't make sense.  The remarks regarding my mother-in-law (who was too frail to attend and wasn't there) make no sense; additionally, her remarks regarding greeting guests, etc. - well, had she set up properly, my daughter-in-law would have been able to set up the music and meet & greet guests - instead she had to do Rosemary's job.If you need further clarification after reviewing these attached letters, you may contact me by phone at (585) 775-5092.Sincerely, [redacted]

Dear Sir/Ma'am
I never saw this coming. The bride and groom's departure from the Ellwanger Estate
Bed and Breakfast the following morning was warm and friendly, with a sharing
conversation, requested hugs by the groom, tips for the assistants, and I
gifted two champagne glasses to the happy couple. On September 30, they sent a beautiful wedding photo stating:
Hi Rosemary, see the attached; we'll send a
better one for you to show other brides n grooms that may want to get married
at the Ellwanger .
As this is my first ever complaint, I will address each
concern in depth.
1.
Poor organization and lack of preparation:The planning process started months prior
to the wedding, with site visits, e-mails, phone calls, and letters
Even with this intense planning, unexpected changes and add-ons continued up to
and just prior to the allocated wedding time of 12PM. The bride stood in her wedding dress upon the landing,
apologizing at 11:55AM, "but could you please add on 3-additional guests?" This required an additional table,
chairs, linens, china, crystal and silver set up. No problem, done.
And this was at no additional charge for the set-upBut this was not
surprising as other last minute non-contracted agendas were discovered in casual
conversations or e mailsFor example, an in -room hair and mastylist was
added at no additional charge (normally $fee)Request for breakfast in
room at 10:AM on the morning of wedding-after breakfast service had been
cleared; unplanned, on-site cake decorating by outside vendor for hour
–interfering with set-up; Maid of Honor serving as "Ambassador" changing the
table set up to include special fold napkins that only she knew how to accomplish
(taking her away from I Pod music set-up), and a family member request that tables
be moved for a better photo shoot of the processionCollectively this was all
professionally executed in a high efficient mannerAs a retired Colonel (06)
in the USAFR, with years of service, one thing I have never been accused of
is "poor organization, or lack of preparation".
2. The Officiant arrived at 11:25AM, met with
the bride and groom and patiently waited for the bride.
Lack of concern for the failures that
occurred on the wedding day:
I received their letter of concern on October
23, four weeks after the weddingThis was the first time that I was aware of
any perceived "failures"As for lack of concern, this business is my life's
passion, just as my year nursing career has been one of compassion and
concern for others. I have
attached my original response letter, dated November 9, 2015, expressing my concern.
Caused
difficulty to other wedding vendors during their set up:
The bakery delivered the cake at 10:AM as
scheduled and plannedI was then asked to provide table space for unplanned,
on site cake decoration with fresh flowers, consuming hour of time, space and
interfering with my set-up It was discussed and made clear
that for the comfort of other guests, the table set up would happen the morning
of the weddingThe florist arrived with the table flowers and was agreeable to
leave them for placement.
Discomfort to guests:
I was not aware of any discomfort to guests. I greeted guests,
assisted with wheelchair transport into the house, served tea and coffee, provided
stiletto heel covers free of charge (normally $10/each) (which, per the
agreement, were prohibited due to safety and floor damage), made the itinerary announcements,
and introduced man and wife to the waiting guestAttention to detail and service
was above board.
Day was
filled with mishaps, confusion and stress:
Yes, a table collapsed, the head
table was off set from the fireplace, the request for last minute additional
lunch guests would not allow everyone to be seated in the main room, the maid
of honor's change of napkin folds added confusion, the porch location of plants
and type of rug were never discussed, and I could feel the tension throughout. In my experience, it is natural for
couples to feel stressed surrounding their wedding day. It started 2-days prior to the
wedding. I informed them of an
additional charge I received from the officiant for their office visit/meeting that
they scheduled with the officiant, unbeknownst to me They refused to pay and became outraged
I agreed to pay the extra fee. The bride and groom requested a
rehearsal, and I agreed for min between 4-6PM with catered pizzaThey misunderstood
that it was inclusive for the hours and sent out invitations for a
party. The wedding rehearsal pizza
party, I was told days prior (after asking the bride and groom), was to include
people (parents, spouses, and girl/boyfriends) lasting hoursI did not
charge them for this extra servicePlease note that the total wedding guests
originally numbered 30. When I
asked the groom what time could we expect his son, who was now minutes late
for the rehearsal, the groom became verbally abusive, accusing me of having an
attitude that he did not appreciate.
He proceeded to yell at me in front of his guests and in my home. The extra services the bride and
groom received that were unplanned, unscheduled, or not contracted, totaled $
in lost revenueThis does not include the free photo shoot for engagement
photosThey are asking for a full refund as settlement. I have supplied all services as
contracted, and more. It was a joyful wedding, with a radiant
couple, surrounded by family and friends, on a beautiful fall afternoon, in a
majestic mansion and gardensIt was cause to celebrateI wish the bride and
groom all the best.
Respectfully
submitted,
Rosemary J[redacted], Owner/Innkeeper
