The Emergency Center Fort Worth Reviews (%countItem)

I had left work because of severe chest pain and stroke-like symptoms. I was the only patient in the building. When I had been admitted they were VERY apprehensive about allowing me to read the contract in which I was made to sign. Even taking it out of my hands when I was reading the pricing and quickly redirected me to where I was supposed to sign and initial. I was sat in a room where two staff members came in and asked normal questions as they should. One specifically introduced herself as the "nurse". She took my vitals in which the machine was wrapped around my arm but never turned on to take my blood pressure. My temperature was taken and I had a fever of 99.8, my heart rate was taken at 73bpm, and the oxygen sensor was on my finger for a total of 4 seconds. They never told me these vitals, I read them on the screen. They both left the room. I heard the doctor outside of the room say "so not an emergency, how nice".The "nurse" awkwardly comes back into the room told me that she was the doctor and explained to me that this was not an emergency and there was nothing they could do besides run EKG and do bloodwork. I asked what should I do and he answer was she was "not good" at problems that may be long term. When I asked what I should do I was given long drawn out answers that did not provide me with ANY information regarding my health. Only that she could not do anything for me. She also told me that the other woman could explain what my insurance could cover. When the other woman came in she stated that my dual coverage insurance was active and that she could not tell me what would be covered and what would not. After being lied to by a woman impersonating a doctor I decided that it was in my best interest to leave as they could not do anything for me or provide any information to me. I was quickly rushed out of the empty building and sent a nice fat bill.

The Emergency Center Fort Worth Response • Feb 06, 2020

Dear Revdex.com,In response to the complaint by Mr XXX we have had our
medical director, facility manager, and the billing department review this
case. The patient did in fact come into our facility seeking
medical care. He was immediately brought back and evaluated by the nurse
where vital signs were done. The patient asked our Patient Service
Coordinator what his insurance benefits would cover and she was unable to provide
the exact details. While I understand this may be frustrating, there are
thousands of medical plans and when we electronically check it often only
reports only if the coverage is active. This was the case for him.
He was informed he had active coverage but there is no possible way to determine
the exact coverage or what he has previously paid toward his deductible.
This is an emergency room and we do not have the luxury of getting to
pre-approve days in advance. It often takes days to weeks to find out
exactly what if any the patients out of pocket costs would be. This
is not only an issue with our facility but is true with all emergency
rooms. The doctor (who was a woman) did see the patient but was
unable to do a full history and physical as he left the facility on his own
choosing. Since MR XXX brought up a few issues, I feel it is necessary
to clarify the truth. First, the patient states, “the oxygen sensor was
on my finger for a total of 4 seconds” seeming implying this is
inappropriate. This is plenty of time to get an accurate pulse
oxygenation and confirm (which we did) his oxygen level was normal.
Second, the patient states that the blood pressure was not taken. This is
also not true. The blood pressure was taken and recorded in the chart.
Third, he states he was “lied by a person impersonating a doctor.”
The second person he is referring to is Dr Jo Leuck, who is a board
certified Emergency Physician- licensed in the state of Texas. Finally,
and most egregiously, the patient reports being sent a “nice fat bill.” I
am not sure what he is referring to as our billing department has confirmed
that to date no bill has been sent to the patient nor has a bill been sent to
the insurance company (the complaint came in only 2 days after the patients
visit). Due to the patient leaving before the physician completed evaluation and treatment, the patient, nor his insurance, will not receive a bill.We at the Emergency Center of West 7th take our
business very serious, both in customer satisfaction and in quality of medical
care. We appreciate the opportunity to share our side of the
story. Should you have any other questions, please contact us.
