The Ethan Company Reviews (2)

I am rejecting this response because:  their response iis. Full of half truths.  1.  [redacted] does not carry wood "almost identical".  A [redacted] representative recommends Bruce flooring for the "almost identical" match.2.  We were told by [redacted] that we would need at least 100 square feet, which we were aware of.  [redacted] took it upon himself to get less, which we were not aware of.  Especially, when the distributor in Farfield had four boxes of the flooring.3.  When [redacted] quoted us the first increase, we were led to believe it was for the extra flooring.4.  When the installers arrived on Tuesday, he only bought two boxes of flooring with them.  The preceded to rip up the carpeting and cut all the floor moulding.  When the were done doing that, they said they would be back the next day with another box of flooring and would finish the job.5.  At no time did [redacted] or the installer mention anything about leaving a closet unfinished of using a "transition moulding".6.  No one came on Wednesday to finish the work.  We received one phone call stated they would be here around 12 pm, then another saying the would be here around 2:30 pm, then a call from [redacted] around 4:00pm stating they were increasing the cost of the job another $100.00.  We refused the increase.  [redacted] said he would have Tuomo [redacted] the owner, call us back.  7.  From the start of the conversation with Mr. [redacted] he had an atitute.  He refused to talk to my wife and only would deal with me.  I tried explaining the situation to him, which he would not listen to.  He told me we had to pay the extra $100.00 or he would not finish the work; there was never no mention of splitting the extra cost.yes, they refunded our deposit, but we.now have a cement floor and ruined floor moulding.  T Hook Carpeting and Flooring should not be allowed to continue this type of business practices.  The only thing we are asking now is that this complaint stay on their record.

Mr [redacted] came into our store to purchase new wood flooring for a hallway and 3 closets in his home. He wanted to match the wood which was originally installed in his home. He had 1 carton (31.5 sf) of this material in his possession which he wanted to use. We told him that the original...

flooring was discontinued but that the same manufacturer made a wood that was almost identical and we could do the job with 3 cartons of the new wood (25 sf Per carton) plus his wood for $834.25. The total of 105.5 sf of material would be about 10 feet over the actual amount needed of 96 sf. He called the next day and said he found a distributor in North Jersey that had some of the original wood and he asked if we could call them which we did. This is a company that we do not normally do business with. They agreed to sell us the wood and so we ordered 2 cartons at 31.5 sf per carton for a total, with his wood, of 94.5 sf We knew that this amount would be cutting it close but the idea was to save Mr [redacted] from paying for an extra 25 sf of wood that he did not need.  We explained this to him and we agreed that if we were short we could leave 1 of the closets unfinished and complete it with the substitute wood. We already had a small amount of this material in stock in our warehouse. The new total for the job would now be $939.65. The increase due to the higher cost per sf of the wood plus a minimum labor charge we pay to our installers. Mr [redacted] agreed to this amount. When the installers went to do the job several days later they determined that indeed, the material would be short. I told them about the plan to finish the closets with the other wood. When they explained to Mr [redacted] that they would have to put a transition molding between the 2 different woods he said that he did not want it installed that way. The only option was to order another box of wood , which we did. When we called Mr [redacted] and told him that the extra material would mean an additional charge he refused to pay it. We offered to split the difference with him, charging him only the cost of the wood but he refused to pay any additional money. After several back and forth calls it was decided that the best course of action would be to give Mr [redacted] a full refund of his deposit, which we did.
