& 10-16-14 2499947 ID SECURITY ALERT: FRAUDULENT APPLICATIONS MAY BE SUBMITTED IN MY NAME OR MY IDENTITY MAY HAVE BEEN USED WITHOUT MY CONSENT TO FRAUDULENTLY OBTAIN GOODS OR SERVICES. DO NOT EXTEND CREDIT WITHOUT FIRST VERIFYING THE IDENTITY OF THE APPLICANT. I CAN BE REACHED AT ###-###-####. Our staff attempted to call the number listed on the consumer credit report as directed by the consumer in order to verify the identity of the person requesting credit in our office. No one answered the number listed. The applicant stated that he had changed phone numbers and that the number listed was no longer valid. Our staff attempted to help him contact the reporting agency to change the alert but he was not able to complete the task. Our staff explained that we must follow the alert’s directions and would not be able to approve his application until he was able to resolve the issue with the alert. This procedure is standard practice in order to protect applicants from identity theft. The holding deposit of $200 was refunded to the applicant.
Consumer states: I have received the reimbursement from the company and everyone at the office was simply following protocol but I have issues with the LLC the way that the case was handled.
Review: I am a 100% Service Connected Disabled Veteran that was denied a apartment
to rent not due to credit, excellent, or income but due to a flaw in the business
practices of the Fairmont Apartments in Woodland CA.
I had placed a $225.00 deposit down to “hold” a place to live and traveled 1 1/2
hours to summit my application along with $1,489.00 to pay the rent through Feb.
When I arrived and was shown the nice place I sat down with [redacted] and she ran
my credit which is above 730. A initial fraud alert came up on the screen and I told
her that I had placed the alert via the [redacted] national fraud alert system and that
thousands of people do the same as a way of protecting their credit.
I was denied the place to live they kept the 1489.00 which I am having to get back
in the mail a week later and ARE charging me the 225.00 for taking the rental off the
market. I was told that the apartment # 121 would not be ready for another 6 days on
the day they took the money and denied me the place that day!Desired Settlement: I have written to the CEO of the company and explained the same. There is NO law
that can support the denial due to a initial fraud alert on a credit file. It is not a block
and I have purchased automobiles, and opened home loan with the exact same kind
of alert.
These people MUST be spoken to!
