I entered this business to complete an exam for a NV Traffic Safety School online course. The fee was $10. After completing the exam, I sat at the administrator's desk as she printed my completion certificate. I had two forms in my purse that I was going to have notarized free of charge at my bank, but noticed a large, brass placard on her desk reading "Notary Public." I confirmed she was the notary. I said, "since I'm here, would you mind notarizing these two forms for me so I don't have to run to the bank? I'm in a hurry to get to work." She said she would. I then pulled out a $20 for the exam and she said she didn't have change. She instructed me to go to neighboring businesses in the adjacent shopping center to break it. I went into 4 businesses in that shopping center and across the street, and was not able to break it. When I returned, I said I did not know what to do, but I had to get to work. I told her I would have to leave the $20 with her and figure it out later.I even made a remark about how she would have a good lunch today if I had to have her keep the entire $20. She didn't offer to mail me a refund or any other solution. When I arrived at work, I was able to secure a $10 bill from a coworker. I called and told her I would be back on my lunch break to exchange my $20 for the $10. She then told me she charges $5 per page for notary services and she was keeping the other $10. I asked her where it was in writing that I was being charged, and why that wasn't discussed with me. I reminded her that I have free notary service at my bank and that I never agreed to pay for the notary service. I asked for proof of her fees. I then spoke with her manager who said there is a sign on her desk with her fees. I asked for a photo of the sign. 2 hours later, I received a picture of a very large sign directly behind the placard reading "Public Notary Available Here! Only $5 Per Page. Ask Me!!" in a very large font. This sign was not there when I was. I feel like I was duped and taken advantage of.Product_Or_Service: Notary Service/Traffic School ExamDesired SettlementI understand that this is only a $10 issue; however, I feel that it is a very negative business practice for a company to not describe a charge, make an agreement with the purchaser either verbally or in writing, or issue a receipt. I feel that if I had a $10 bill, I would have spent only $10. If I owed $20, why did she have me run all over their business park looking for change? I feel that she took the opportunity to come up with this pricing because my money was already in her possession.Business Response As soon as I got back from a business trip, I was made aware of this complaint, I tried to contact [redacted] with no sucess. I was told to refund her money, aplogize and make the client aware that the employee was terminated.We were unaware of the fact that an employee was charging a nortary fee, and have since fired the employee who was doing so, which is also the same employee who that complaint was about.We do not conduct business in this manner and have taken steps to insure nothing like this happens again.We as a company are more than willing to refund [redacted] money, however we have been unsucessfull in contacting her.Again we apologize for the inconvience and would like to send you, your refund as soon as possible.Thank you Family Insurance StoreConsumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)Hello-I appreciate the reply and the information regarding this employee's unauthorized behavior.
