The Harlow Law Firm Reviews (%countItem)

We are requesting a full refund immediately.
On December 16, 2019 I met with Evan H of The Harlow Law Firm to discuss our options for bankruptcy. While still unsure if we were going to file, we did pay for the fees for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. We made 3 payments of $500 on 1/9/2020, 1/11/2020 and 2/25/2020 for the $1,500 service fee along with $335 on 1/24/2020 for the Court Cost. Total pre-paid was $1,835.

We asked 3 questions on 1/21/2020 about the filing and did receive an answer.

During that time, we were able to fix our financial situation to the point were on 7/1/2020 we informed The Harlow Law Firm that we would not be filing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and requested a refund of our pre-paid amount.

Please note: During this time, we had not received any communications, or questions concerning our case. We were provided no information or updates, past the 3 questions we asked on 1/21/2020.

On 7/6/2020 we received an email from Evan Harlow stating that he could refund us $750 of our service fee and $335 in Court Cost. We did not accept that and requested a full refund. At that point, he stated that “significant work” had been competed on our case. When we asked for details of what work had been completed, he stated that they do not keep track of time for flat-rate services and provided a screenshot. He informed us that time had been allocated for our case but again could provide no details.

Since no work as we see it has been completed, and nothing can be documented for work we are not aware of, we are requesting a full refund immediately.

Attorney-client privilege prohibits me from sharing details of most of what was done or said for this client. However, we did explain to Mr. what work had been done. The case he hired us for is not billed by the hour and therefore no tracking of time is required or maintained. Additionally the nature of the case involves preparation of voluminous paperwork that gets filed with the court and requires the client to supply us with a multitude of information and supporting documents which we have to organize and transfer to the case filings along with making sure certain elections are made and the clients' rights are protected in the process.

We received some of this from Mr. and began preparations of his paperwork to be filed. There is not typically any communication on the progress made unless we need something from the client or the paperwork is completed. On March 31 he sent a message stating that they were working on the remainder of the requested information and still intended to go forward with the case. Neither of them ever indicated or informed me or my office that they were undertaking other methods to resolve their situation and may not need my help. When a client enters into a contract with me and pays me I expect that client is intending on using me for those purposes I was hired for. If there was any reason not to go forward with their case from the beginning I would not have even entered into an agreement with them. I cannot get into the habit of having clients change their mind and want their money back. I am not in the business of holding money for other people for months on end while they are seeking help from someone else.

Expecting I would see the remainder of the information as he promised on March 31 I waited. Then as fate would have it this occurred at the same time that COVID-19 caused many businesses to shut down and other restrictions were imposed. Admittedly we failed to communicate further with the *** during this time as we were not only personally affected by the national situation but my business also saw a lot of emergency work for other clients.

When a client takes more than 3 months to provide the requested information that typically only takes about a week it is easy to lose track when other clients are more dedicated to their cases and need immediate assistance.

In spite of all this I had already agreed to refund the full amount to the Reighley's before I was even notified of this complaint. I hope it is just a matter of timing and that he filed this complaint before we came to an agreement. Otherwise it just goes to show his lack of character and he was more intent on sullying my reputation than being made whole.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. The Harlow Law Firm has resolved the situation quickly and honestly. No further action is needed.

Regards
