In January 2020 we made a 4 night reservation at the Holiday Court to attend a boat show in Fort Myers from Ohio. Unfortunately COVID hit the United States and the boat show was cancelled. Upon cancelling our Hotel reservation the owner Steve L informed me that he would keep an entire night's deposit to cancel. Steve was very rude and condescending stating Florida was open so he did not have to refund my money. He stated his policy was on the website however we did night make our reservation via website and was not notified of this. Our reservation was made directly over the phone. I could understand a cancelation fee however an entire night's fee during a National pandemic is unacceptable. Every organization has been very understanding and flexible. This is the first business that refused to acknowledge this COVID outbreak!
Refund I am requesting a refund of $115.00
made a reservation on January 15, 2020 for four nights from October 7, 2020 until January 11, 2020 in one bedroom suite *** (Snug Harbor). That room was reserved and her for her and her husband.
Our stated cancellation fee is a one night cost per each week of the reservation. This is on both our web site's reservation page and on our printed rate cards which are handed our and sent out when inquiries are made.
Ms *** cancelled the reservation a week ago. Our motel is open, restaurants are open, the beach is open, planes are flying.
Two notes of relevant interest: First, all customers received full refunds for reservation from late March 2020 though the end of May 2020, and also international guests continue to receive full refunds or rescheduled dates even now due to travel restrictions. Second, Ms *** has some friends who also have reservations and they are still coming here this Friday October 9,2020.
As to the accusation of myself being rude I say that is not true. I stated the cancellation policy which has been in place for many years (and I believe if fair and just). It was Ms *** who became irate and demanded to not be held responsible to keep the commitment she made to stay for four nights.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Unfortunately I did not make the reservation. It was made over the phone from a friend who was attending with us our event. I would've never done business with anyone that would take an entire nights stay as a deposit! The friend you are referring to is coming to your hotel only because he does not want to lose his $115 and lives 20 minutes away in Fort Myers! We are in Ohio. Our event was canceled due to Covid Which is still very active in both Ohio and Florida making flying dangerous. Ohio is currently a red state! It is still being recommended when traveling from Ohio that you quarantine for two weeks. This pandemic is out of everyone's control and it is unfortunate That this business owner would not acknowledge this cancellation was due to Covid and the cancellation of the event we were attending there. Yes Florida and the beaches are open as of now However many events have been canceled. The virus is very unpredictable and things are changing from day today.Steve was very condescending and rude and at no time did I ever get irate with ham. Just very disappointed in someone that does business like this and cares more about money than public safety.
