I have read the complaint from Mr. [redacted] and I understand that he is upset. We have no control over the comic's creativity, nor does any other comedy club in the country. It is [redacted]'s right to freedom of speech. Comics doing a live show in a club, is very different then what you may see...

on TV. Should a guest want information on a particular comic, all they would have to do is call the Improv. Mr. [redacted] did offend the table next to Mr. [redacted] and the people did leave, as was their choice. Mr. [redacted] started yelling at [redacted] which fueled the fire. I am sorry to say but, much of the audience found it very funny. The Improv neither endorses nor condones this type of action. Very few shows here are politically correct.Mr. [redacted] had the choice of not saying anything or leaving. Instead he decided to yell at Mr. [redacted] and after the show was over, went up to Mr. [redacted] and started again. The DC Improv has very few problems over the 20 plus years that it has been here. We do not employee security as there is no need for it. The gentleman that escorted him out, is a manager.
As far as what happened outside, the management and staff were inside, setting up for the next show. When they heard what was going on, staff members went outside and took care of it. Every staff member that was interviewed said that there was no physical altercation, it was purely verbal.
Had Mr. [redacted] spoken to a manager about leaving, and possibly asking us about coming to a different show, the outcome may have been different.
As far as Mr. [redacted] receiving a refund, that will not happen. He antagonized the situation and brought most of this on himself. We are sorry that the problems took place but, as I said earlier, comedy clubs do not have control over the comics, unless it becomes physical.

I am rejecting this response because: Mr. [redacted] was allowed to leave the premises and pursue me outside of the establishment where I reasonably believed that he intend strike me. While the DC Improv cannot limit a comic's freedom of speech based upon that comic's first amendment rights, they have a duty to protect their patrons. That duty expands to the protection of their patrons from physical assault even from the employed comic. As contracted by the DC Improv on June 19, 2015, [redacted] was an agent and/or employee of the DC Improv. The DC Improv has breached their duty to protect me when they negligently allowed Mr. [redacted] to assault me. But for DC Improv's negligence in preventing the comic to attempt to physically pursue me and to give me reasonable belief of his intention to strike me, this event would not have occurred. Accusations that I yelled at him during the show are not only inaccurate they are misleading. Accusations that "he brought him upon himself" are also misleading and should not be an excuse for allowing assault of a patron by and through the DC Improv.
