To the best of my knowledge, this issue is solved I have purchased the exact computer as a replacement for the one that was taken I am still waiting for the computer and have not heard anything from the daughter or the mother [redacted] at this time This consumer complaint is accurate in stating that the computer was stolen from my business premises by a female friend of mine between the day I contacted the daughter to let her know the computer was repaired and ready to be picked up and the day she actually showed up to get it It is also accurate in stating the I offered to get one of my own laptops setup and ready for the daughter to borrow(use until we agreed on a solution and settled the problem). The restHere is my report to you about the incident...I can supply a copy of the police report if necessary A lady and her daughter came to my place of business one day(July 25) with a laptop that was having problems She stated that it would just shut off with no warning during the course of our conversation she told me that she had called me about a computer a couple of months ago, but never came by, and she also stated that she had just had the motherboard replaced recently and that it had been working ok since then, but this problem just started happening recently I explained that if it was just a system problem that would not require a part my basic charge is a flat $labor, but if it was a faulty component, I charge $plus the cost of parts and that I require parts to be paid for before I order them They seemed happy at the rates and left the computer with me along with the power supply and a backup disk (remember this) When I turned on the computer it most certainly did the shutting down just all of a sudden As I started to browse through the system to try to narrow the range of possible problems I noticed that there were no files except for folder of pictures As I searched through the event viewer, I found that except for the events that took place when I was working on the laptop, there was not a single event between and 2016...which is really strange if she had been using the computer at..or even just turned it on But yes there were a handful(less than a dozen) of events before I received the laptop, a couple in the earlier months of the year, and the majority just a few days before I took possession of the laptop All in all it looked like the laptop had not been used in about years and had maybe been turned on a couple of times and then several times just before it was brought to me But none of that affected my job of making the computer work without shutting down suddenly The problem was fairly easily solved by updating the graphics card drivers which was overheating and then cutting off I then updated the system to windows since it was still free at that time and I called the customer which showed up days later to pick up the computer During the days that I had the computer running, I left it out on a work table so that I could get updates for it and keep running system tests and verifying that it would not shut off again The 2nd night(actually now sunday morning) I had been working a lot of hours and about am I took a break and lay down on the couch in my break area to take a short napJust before am, my friend Monique came to the door because my lights were on and she thought I was working I let her in because I knew she was having a hard time alone, her husband was in jail for felony spousal abuse, and I enjoyed hanging out and talking with her But I fell asleep and when I woke up about min later, she was gone and so was the computer I immediatley went to the places I knew she hung out regularly including her grandmothers house(actually her mom's sister) but was unable to locate her I spent the rest of the day trying to find anyone who had seen her or knew where she was, but I figured the laptop was probably gone within the 1st hour I debated calling the customer, knew I should, but I chose not to because that would eliminate any hope that I would recover it and all would be just fine I placed a report for the theft online with the Fresno police and informed my friend thru texts, but I still have not heard from her The daughter came by Tuesday(August 2) afternoon to pick up the computer and I told her of the problem and how embarrassed I was at the situation I explained that I do not have the money to just buy a new laptop for her, but that I either could get them a fair equivalent for it in a few days or I could give them lesser ones or any of several options that would get the daughter a laptop to use and then some She said that her grandmother had bought the laptop for her mother so she would have to talk to her mom about itI told the daughter about the lack of files or events of being used and she told me they had been deleting old files so she could use the laptop, but there still should have been more events of use just from that [redacted] called me like hours later very angry and I explained to her the same thing I was embarrassed of the situation and I would be willing to get them more than they lost if they would work with me and let me utilize items I already had or could fixBut she wanted to know how I was going to reimburse her for the computer because she had paid well over $for the computer and that it was practically brand newat which time I stopped her and told her that her daughter told me that it had been a gift to her from her mom, and she agreed I asked her to get me the exact model# and serial # from the paperworks for the computer and copies of the receipts, but all I have received to date is a text with the computer brand and style which includes several models of varying levels Luckily I had searched the exact model # and had that information Before the end of the day(Tuesday August 2) ***'s husband came by and again asked me what I was going to do about the situation and that it was not going to be their loss or become an "Oh well" situation I again told him that I was embarrassed and was willing to try to get them more than they lost if they would work with me, even though I did not know exactly what that would or could be the final solution and gave him a copy of the temporary police report I asked him about the comp[uter and he also informed me that ***'s mother had bought it for her as a present which again is not [redacted] buying it as she tried to tell me and she reported to the Revdex.com in the complaint she filed that night She did not even make an attempt to come to a settlement as the only solution she was wanting to hear is that I would pay her I searched the product at best buy since she said that is where she purchased the item and I found old listings this item was sold for $including the power cord she seems to want an extra $for and is not the well over $she has stated she paid But without receipts, I will never give her any money Now, the following day Wendesday the 3rd, ***'s ex husband came by to talk to me about the situation and was calm and collected and willing to discuss the situation I told him all the same things he also confirmed that [redacted] did not buy the laptop and even though we had not reached any kind of course of action to make amends for this situation, he was satisfied with me getting a laptop ready for his daughter that night to use for her school until we came to a settlement for replacing the stolen laptop I spent the rest of the day wiping my own personal laptop and getting a fresh clean hard drive and system installed for the daughter when I called at about 10pm to either have them come get the laptop or deliver it to them, I was told she had already borrowed one from another family memberOn Friday the 5th, I received a notice of the complaint which included the same lie about who purchased the laptop and a cost which does not match any price listing I can find with Best BuyThis put me into shut down mode because it was just one more thing that confirmed that all she wants is $$$$$ But I have purchased the exact same model of computer to replace the one that she brought to me and that is the only solution I will offer I have informed the daughter of this solution and have not heard anything back so Iassume they are accepting it [redacted] Owner of The Inkspot
