The Island Guest House Bed & Breakfast Inn

Review: I booked a room for two nights at the Island Guest House for my mother and father. My father is very ill and this would have been his last trip to LBI. We've spent many summers on the island and planned on making dad's last trip special. [redacted] seemed nice and was so excited to accommodate my parents. I informed her that I would be paying with a bedandbreakfast.com gift card. [redacted] explained that 80% of the gift card value would be accepted and that I would be responsible for the remaining balance. I agreed and gave my visa information over the phone to hold the room. The cancellation policy was not explained over the phone, nor was the information about the 4% processing fee for paying with a credit card. And I never received an email confirming my reservation. When I checked my credit card account several days prior to arrival, I noticed that my card had been charged for approximately $650, which is the entire balance of the stay. I figured that this was a glitch that could be worked out easily. On the same day of the billing error, I was informed that my father was too ill to make the trip to LBI. I called the Island Guest House to inform them of this. I was told that I would still owe 100% of the bill if they were unable to re-book the room. When I mentioned the billing error and my desire to pay as much as possible with the gift card, [redacted] acted as if she knew nothing of the gift card and that I would owe the entire balance of the room. I informed [redacted] that I had not even received the email reservation confirmation. She stated that she made an error in the email address and would re-send it. The confirmation contained information about policies that I was never informed about when I initially made this reservation. Had I been properly informed, I would have decided against booking with them. I told [redacted] that I would be informing the Revdex.com about my experience as it seemed that I was misled by the management. Bait and switch here as well!Desired Settlement: I would like to have the charge to my credit card reversed. I would also like for the Island Guest House to use full disclosure practices for those who book over the phone. I was misled and under informed by [redacted]. It seems like they were trying to make as much as possible during the last week of the summer season.
